Don't Starve Together Beta Extension Information

Hello Everybody,

We have decided to extend the beta for the next update until January so that we have more time for upcoming additions for Walter and further updates to the Wendy Skill Tree.

With the holidays approaching, we feel that it would be better to wait until we are back from the break and working at full capacity during the release of the update so we can ensure it launches smoothly and give it our full attention.

Wendy and Walter are not quite where we want them yet. We want to make some aesthetic improvements for Wendy and the Woby part of Walter needs time to be fleshed out a bit more. So we have a hotfix we want to get out this week and then we will have another beta hotfix in the new year.

We do still have a small Winter’s Feast update that we want to get out for you that will be released next Thursday since that work is separate from the skill tree beta and it isn’t affected by the delay.

There will be a Beta Hotfix tomorrow with adjustments that we want to get out before the holidays. More details on that update will come out with the patch notes tomorrow.

With that hotfix, we will continue gathering feedback to help us determine what else we want to address before releasing the update for everybody.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause. We appreciate your patience while we give this the time we believe it needs.

And finally, Don’t Starve Together would not be what it is without the love and support from the community. However, please remember that while we do not generally respond to suggestions and feedback posts individually, we do try to make our best effort to show our appreciation by responding to that feedback through our specific updates and patch notes. Not all players see the game in the same way and we have to try to balance our vision with the passion of all of our community. We hope that when the dust settles on this update, everybody will get to see exactly how much this matters to us, and the game.

As always, thank you for all of your feedback and support.

I wanna ask, but will this festive update also apply to the beta, similar to how Warly’s character update applied to both the basegame and the old ROT turn of tides patch?

Hopefully reworked ck gets a winters feast form. That said, Im really interested to see what will come of the beta extension, and what Wendys "aesthetic improvements" are.

Also @Mike23Ua i stand corrected. I wouldve bet anything they would release the beya before the holidays.

In this post, it was mentioned that there will be a minor update next week. I understand that there won’t be any updates to character skills, but I would like to ask if there will be any bug fixes, as some critical bugs are indeed affecting the game. Lastly, I sincerely thank you for all your hard work.

Update discussion aside, I hope you guys at Klei enjoy your break. Y'all work really hard on this game and the passion and effort really shows. A different company with different people working on the same game would've made a far different (and in all likelihood, a far more generic, worse, and soulless) game. Happy holidays folks. :wilson_celebrate:

See? Even Mr. JoeW knows how horrible 3 months for updates was. That's why I propose for 6 months between updates; so they can search for bugs and recreate them and do their best to fix them, as well as making better, fleshed out content with minimal bugs - maybe even holding out beta for more than a month to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Remember, trust Wilson gaming; cuz I know best.

Should we still do Wortox feedback?

I don’t see why it would hurt? I mean I myself really dislike the design and functionality of the Knabsack

here’s a cool idea: Since Wortox has a “naughty & nice” skill tree maybe his unique toys can have different effects depending on which side you invest more into?

Aka Knabsacker on the “nice” side can be used to carry items inside (foods, resources)

And on Naughty it can be used as a melee weapon or a tool to kidnap mobs in the constant.

Just because people aren’t talking about Wortox’s skill tree nearly as much as Wendys or Walters does not mean there’s no room for further improvements.

I saw it coming, but also I’m heavily Indian heritage on both my mom and my dads side so sometimes I just feel and sense things most people would find “abnormal” I’m not psychic (I don’t think.. lol) But I just have this ability to know things I shouldn’t so I’m genuinely not surprised.

With that said: I wish everyone the happiest and healthiest holidays they can have and I’ll see y’all in the new year to see the final results of the upcoming update AND the 2025 Roadmap (I got a feelin it’s gonna be exciting.)

I noticed no mention of Wortox on the post, wishful thinking, but is there any chance we get Wortox brought to main, since he's pretty much finished?

I would like them to use this as an oppurtunity to add just little bits of polish that'd go a long way. Things that are not necessary but would be nice, e.g. a special sfx when playing the panflute while inspired, a scythe side-swipe indicative of the actual size of the aoe attack or possibly a Wortox-only upgraded variant like Wormwood's brambleshade husk for added coolness, a better popping animation for soul decoy 3's explosion, so on. Things that I wouldn't be upset if they never happened, but would be nice if they did.

You gotta stop.

Kidnap-sack would be so much cooler than what it does as a melee weapon if I'm being honest. I still think it is the lamest of personal weapons. At least as a bug net function would be nice.

I understand that the community's reaction to the update was a shock, and personally don't mind the delay. I hope that, whenever the update arrives, it's satisfactory to the developer team and the playerbase. This, of course, includes those who have given constructive feedback. As passive aggressive as this may sound, reaching the satisfaction of unconstructive feedback is impossible
