Increasing the time in between updates isn't going to make the updates mythically better. There is still going to bugs, some simple some not,  there is still going to be junk code, ect. While the 3 month generally allows for more quality for updates, any longer and I feel the game will start suffering because now there is a lot more stuff that needs feedback and not a whole lot of time to touch upon everything. 3 months is the goldilock zone imo.

Meanwhile we have game-breaking bugs right now such as the gloombell, affinity merms, etc etc. And this happened after the current hotfix.

Honestly I prefer to be able to play a game 1 year without having to worry about mods becoming outdated. But 6 months is agreeable too.

Ignoring the mods topics, I like even longer times between updates (1,5 year would be the minimum) because I don't like getting used to gameplay changes. I still like the fact that new content gets added, but I prefer bigger changes that add more gameplay impact towards smaller ones (though I wouldn't mind lots of small fixes inbetween).

I think, if we were to get half a year of updates at once, there'd be less time for community feedback on individual features. Klei didn't make the Great Depths Worm be always wet like normal Depths Worms until someone *cough cough* me *cough*  very persistently drew attention to it and suggested it. They also changed it to spawn consistently near the player due to community feedback.

This is the major advantance of the tiny updates, gladly, or else I wouldn't be too happy about them at all.

It's been ages since I saw the big worm in my 2k+ (nearing 3k) days ever since the update launched. I only saw it once. Ever since then it's just the 3 regular worms.

By giving the devs longer time, they could peruse the other bugs that may seem rare but actually are very often to happen, like the Scrappig bug.

I enjoy a game that's constantly updated like in the current format. It brings me back every once in a while.

Honestly though, having regular skill trees and little updates like the ocean and the caves like last 2 updates + a big major update atleast twice a year is kinda goated if you think about it. Klei is doing it the right way by prioritizing what the current players want but also moving on on their ideas for this arc.

What I said was that they changed it to spawn consistently near the player instead of, y'know, randomly off in the corner before moving towards the player like a normal Depths Worm.

Depends of the update... might make sense economically to have a fixed periodic schedule of updates but doesnt make that much sense for the quality, impact, balance and cohesion of the content.

There are updates, like the rift ones that needs more quantity of content and time to balance so the update doesnt feel small or bland while skill trees could be released individually

Also too much content dilutes the focus making some content received more attention from the players and devs while other pieces of content are forgotten

So imo klei should release the content when it makes sense to be released and, if they are scare of people losing interest on the game, they could add periodic small qol and balance updates in between

They always say how they prioritize quality over quantity and how they dont care about schedule updates...but i dont feel that is completely true. Sure, they need to chose a day to release content because consoles rules but we got a lot of content that needs more time and or changes and, instead, it got rushes and launched... and is starting to be tireshome

I really don’t have an issue with it being every 3 months + an intermission update in between.

A lot of people say they want more spaced updates since that will “improve” them, but Klei’s been doing monthly updates for active content arcs/DLCs since like, I don’t know, DS was in beta? Sure, the DLCs they made usually come in a more complete state compared to the start of the content arcs, but they still usually got monthly updates to flesh out the new mechanics they added until the DLC/content arc was complete.

It’s also important to note DS/T relies heavily on community feedback for their updates to put them in a better direction that players would desire. This has been the case since, again, DS was in beta, and I doubt they are going to stop anytime soon. Going away from this would likely cause a slew of issues and I don’t think it would be advised.

Really, all I would want is something similar to how A New Reign handled the updates, where it also got monthly additions, but those editions stayed in the beta branch until the team felt ready to release the content in the main branch, which came in 3 separate “parts”, each with months of content updates. My only concern is this could negatively impact the console experience as they don’t have any beta branch whatsoever at the moment.

Do we know anything about the structure of Klei's DST team? Like, how many devs there are working on the game, whether it's structured, that sort of thing? I figure it'd be possible to have an A-team that works on larger updates while a B-team works on smaller QoL/bug fix updates and/or maybe puts out skill trees, but that's only if they have enough devs to do that with.

that only works if there isnt an expectation from forum members for fast large qualitative updates -constantly- there is even a thread put up on the regular every time people personally want an update to come out regardless of whether or not there has been anything from klei. there is also the issue that small updates are regularly used as excuses for forumites to have verbal dust-ups about how klei is losing focus, doesnt listen to the needs of the community, no longer care about the game and/or are somehow scamming people out of money. ideally this is fine but in practice it hasnt really been working out for klei

Compared 2024 and before, I don't think the longer update intervals have resulted in higher quality or more content, designer seem are just getting more... extravagance and waste, with more programming and art resources and productivity to create the same or even less gaming experience.

And the number of bugs or careless omissions remains pathetic constant, even more - because no matter how big an update they release, they basically only receive feedback and fix bugs in the limited weeks between the start of the beta and after release.

In ANR and early days of DST, the shortest update in DST history intervals produced the highest quality content.

Well, they even acknowledge how the 1st rift update needed more cooking... isnt about expectations,  is about quality

Why there is no other options like 1 or 2 months because I actually love the old way of updating the game then this version not that I actually hate the current one I am actually fine with it but I loved the old one more

Because we should all be considerate to the devs too.

? yes but how can this be batter or worse I don’t understand they can even but a small update every week or a normal update every 2 months or the current version or even a very big update every year I didn’t say I went a big update every month but I like small updates every month then a big update every 6 months

I like 3 months a lot cause we get bursts of things in better more packed bundles and it's a nice number to round around for the whole year. 6 months might be too long for many with short attention span and wanting to see more going on to feel engaged with the content while 4 months seems like an awkward fit.

But 3 months really beats the monthly-ish updates.

I don't really feel the need to bundle all the content implemented in the current update at once every few months. I thought it would have been fine to separate the Rabbit King, the giant worm, and the threat of the cave after the Rift in the previous update.

Releasing everything at once can attract players' interest with a lot of content, but it also doubles or triples or more the amount of bugs and feedback that comes at once. I don't want to say anything bad about Klei, but honestly, I don't think Klei is able to handle it now. (On a separate note, I really need to the function to merge things like the last Atrium-bound Tentapillar into existing worlds.)

If they had done that, I think they could have prevented game balance collapse like the Shadow Maul's lifesteal amount being extremely reduced to 3.4, and the giant worm being unfairly strong and destructive.
