Bringing back the unused Shadow Chess Piece drops

With all this talk about the Shadow Chess Pieces, especially their importance in the new Shadow version of obtaining the Spark Arcs, it got me thinking...

I keep seeing a lot of very valid criticisms about re-fighting them several times over, and whilst pondering potential ways to make it a bit more interesting, I got reminded that they're still using their placeholder drops!
Back when they were added early on in ANR, it was said that their drops, the Dark Sword and Armor, where placeholder.

Obviously this was never changed out, but their true drops still have string names at the very least.
Those being the Shadow Lance, Crest, Mitre&Sceptre drops.

I don't exactly have any personal ideas on what these'd do, or if they're even worth considering any more, but I feel like it'd be nice to give them new drops of their own.
Not only would it be a bit more pre-rift content, it could potentially aid in their re-fights. Like how FW drops a Thurible which nerfs one of his attacks. There's potential there for a lot of things, really.
It might even be a fun way to entice players to try different combos of their fight, too.

That's mostly it.
TLDR: It might be fun to have the Shadow Trio be given their own drops to potentially aid in making them a bit more interesting for re-fights.

I wouldn’t mind this as a post rifts upgrade to them with the new rewards, I mean yea it’s more endgame stuff which I’m pretty tired of, but it would make those repeat fights more interesting which I for one am only doing after I’m done with Fuelweaver anyway

I think the ideas they had for these items got saved for Fuelweaver. The Mitre and Scepter, a Mitre being the pope hat that bishops wear, seem like they’d function like the current FW skull and shadow thurible would, I mean what else would they do? The crest could be bone armor so the only one that theoretically went totally unexplored would be the Lance.
 

It’d be cool to have a new melee weapon type fleshed out. If we have standard weapons, shields with armor values, and whips with slower attacks but range, the lance could be something entirely unique.. like a damage multiplier based on movement speed, or the ability to use a charge special attack similar to Wigfrid’s special attack. You could make the lance work from atop a beefalo for the full jousting experience!

To contribute one more tidbit to the thread, if they did introduce new drops for the pieces I’d hope it’s done where you get the drop based on the tier 3 shadow piece you defeat. For years there’s been little reason to deviate from Knight Bishop Rook, but a sparkly new item could change that!

good thing I mentioned this cause it is really interesting what was the thought and design behind those placeholder items. I wish we would see whatever they are or them being added into the game, better than maybe hundreds of darkswords and night armors

Im in favor of giving them real drops (and a sketch per t3 shadow) but the problem is what would be the point of adding these items specifically, when they sound like weapons, considering they are the previous step to killing FW, which is what triggers the shadow rifts, making any weapon acumulate dust like what happens with stuff like terror shield or glass cutter

The progression is a mess and, while i would love weapons with shadow abilities, klei should put their things together and polish the progression so it doesnt feel like, ironically, terraria hard mode, where you quickly ditch just obtained gear to use the following tier

A table to enhance gear with shadow and moon materials, like enhancing with dreadstone or gleams, would solve this, similar to core keeper upgrade table. A way to make every weapon and armor have planar by paying a cost

IDK, these items don't really appeal to me from the name alone, they seem to be just like the simple beginner mod items on the workshop, with no special features. Even if they did, over the years, those features have probably been reassigned to other item.
