Lurking Nightmare should be able to spawn on 0 sanity.

Recommended Posts

Lurking Nightmare is too good concept on shadow creature to be exclusive for post-rift content. In my opinion, Lurking Nightmare would be perfect as a strong enemy spawning in one piece on 0 sanity. Something like Creeping Fear from Uncompromising Mode.

Adding this as a enemy from sanity would definitely make the game a bit more difficult, forcing more experienced players to take greater care of your sanity. Besides it, thanks to its design of swimming in the ground, it is perfect so that it would also fit stylistically as a ocean shadow.

Of course, to maintain some exclusivity for this shadow, Lurking Nightmares respawning from nightmare lights and nightmare fissures should gain red elements in these design when the shadow rift is active. Apart from these appearance, these should also gains planar defense and damage.

Perhaps Lurking Nightmares from sanity could also receive such a buff when staying in caves. In my opinion, it will be a fun idea to make penalties for low sanity greater in the caves in the form of stronger shadows.

My only request is for these to drop more loot compared to the average shadow. Considering these are a lot more difficult to kill then a crawling horror/terrorbeak and you are extremely likely to see them when farming with something like a bone helm (since it forces your sanity to be set to zero), I don’t think it would be too extreme if these dropped ~3-4 nightmare fuel compared to 1-2. Otherwise, I could see it being quite an interesting threat.

I don't think insanity will ever become more difficult because it is a stat that new and experienced players have to manage. New players will always have issues with sanity and it is very easy to drop to 0.

At the same time sanity is a mechanic that is meant to pile on top of the current issue you are dealing with whether it is boss fight or ruins rush players are supposed to be slowly overwhelmed. It is reasonable unlike hounds and worm waves because it is a stat that can be controlled.

I will keep never never ever eating a sanity food and will only send a middle finger to you every single time I get hit by it.

It literally is though? Stay at 0 sanity, you get the consequences. Sounds pretty logical to me.

But nothing changes on my part, I always were at 0 sanity and will keep doing that. Consequence of what?

I definitely agree. It would be a shame for the new shadow to be restricted to shadow lights in the ruin which, let's be honest, are very easily avoidable, there is literally a warning before they open, having the new shadow as just another thing you run away from because there is 0 incentive to actually fight it would be such a waste

staying above zero sanity is easy to the point where i dont think this creature would actually force you to manage sanity any differently than you would currently. that being said, if it makes people happier with the state of the insanity mechanic then i think its a great idea. it creates a scary new threat without making it a massive hindrance.

personally I think they should appear at 0 senity - but ONLY after activating rifts.

I myself would like to start taking care of sanity in this game again, but I know that my friends die from regular shadows, and they don't need new enemies. :p

Why would you need to care If they spawn at 0 sanity? Nightmare creatures will spawn before you drop your sanity low enough and you can kill them and never drop to 0.

This would only have an effect If you drop to 0 fast enough which is very avoidable.

The more nightmare items you have in your inventory, the higher the threshold could be.

For example, with 40 nightmare fuel, it could be 10 sainity and above for Wilson.

THE ONE PIECE

Well brother, we do indeed find THE ONE PIECE!!!! Ahahahah

It's incredible that Klei listened us and pulled a Ruins rework out of nowhere, but I will say it. If you want guys, we can still push to add it as a new shadow on 0 sanity, you have my support. I would have no problem with it. Afterall, terrobeaks and crawling nightmares were the sanity enemies, before meeting them on the Ruins and it could make sense on a videogamey design, to meet lurking nightmare, before the ruins, to train you when you will meet him there with other shadows. Although, I will also say, it also makes perfect sense to be an unique enemy of the Ruins, it adds a LOT for the level. Whatever the choice, I'm already an happy kid with the recent change :wilson_dorky:
