For some reason the beta branch option isn't showing up for me. Ive restarted my steam and checked multiple times but there is no update beta option in the betas tab. Only the base game and a beforemacoschanges

The beta tab finally appeared for me now. I don't know why it didnt appear before.

I am not sure about doing that, but maybe SOME day? (I really plan to watch those streams ONE DAY, I am just not the person to like concentrating on watching a stream without really feeling a need for watching it)

There's literally no reason not to use this saddle post-rift. Truly fitting stats for an endgame saddle.

I dont like when items push previous items in sandbox games. Right now the progression sucks, you get items like dreadstone armor or shield of terror to just throw them few hours after or how the rift materials are making useless to farm a lot of other materials like thulecite

I have seen the new creatures and shadowy tools even without watching the stream just by occasionally looking through the forum and I am already excited enough ^^ But I bet there is still a lot I am missing that's adressed in the stream (probably they may have art sketches in there again too), so I am feeling a /tiny/ bit more interested in watching it. But still struggling with myself and my slight repulse against "just watching a long stream passively when I could do other stuff during that time"

Lots of great new content here! Love it!

A few suggestions

  1. Maybe if you don't revive your beefalo fast enough a varg or varglet show up to eat it. Kind of like what happens with the koalefant.
  2. Maybe this is a thing already, but don't allow the player to revive the beefalo if they can't take the max health penalty.
  3. In regards to the weapon that levels up when you attack bosses, might be interesting if it leveled down when killing non-hostile mobs (or maybe instead non-bosses or elites)

Beefalo Fans really ate with this update, it’s so cool that we’re finally getting endgame options!

My only notes and questions would be 1. How does the poop deleting from the shadow bell work? It’d be cool if it got lazy foraged into your inventory because certain characters especially wormwood appreciate a passive stream of manure. And 2. Does knockback still apply on this saddle? While immunity would be cool, I actually think it’s better to keep knockback, makes combat more exciting. Just a tip for my ornery gamers, make sure to max out the obedience of your beefalo before a big fight! You can remount an aggro beefalo with the new saddle, but only with the right amount of obedience and Ornery are the only tendency who default to below the 50% threshold!

To your first point: if you get those things within hours of each other I think you are rushing by most people’s standards. And if you are rushing you can use them as temporary items to make things go faster. One thing helps to get the next thing.

But what made dst special was that, as much and as fast as you rushed, nothing became completely obsolete

They simply are taking the lazy route of releasing tiers. Now we hace tier2 batbat and tier2 bomerang instead of having ups and downs in terms of perks, downsides or costs

Ive been playing this game for seven years and am a big fan but and I'm really genuinely sorry to say this but this might be the most disappointing the most useless and overall the most nothing update ever.

Not only it's more "post finale boss stuff" wich I and a lot more others aren't a big fan of since it's just so out of place in a game like dst. But also this update was announced to be a cave update that would add more challenges and new rewards to the caves and it's like 3 notable but extremely minor additions. After the announcement I was really expecting the caves to be a place to go other than to just loot the ruins and escape the summer heat.

These couple of updates been really disappointing lately other than some additions and it really worries me. I hope dst returns to it's former exciting and unique ways as soon as possible.

And just wanna say this is my personal opinion so no death threats please

THIS is how you voice your opinion! No anger, just the way you feel without any emotion tied to it. Thank you for keeping it civil.

While I don’t agree with your opinion on the post final boss content (I don’t view fuelweaver/celestial champion as final bosses) I do kinda see your point on the lacking ness of this update in particular so far. They still haven’t really fixed the main problem with there not being anything terribly notable in the caves other than the ruins, and the shadow rifts which can farmed for a tiny bit and then ignored for a long while. In my opinion it is certainly getting better but it still needs a long way to go. I have been personally loving these past few updates especially with the skill trees, but I respect your opinion.

Also good job for voicing your opinion in a respectful manner with you not claiming that they were objective, and even though I may not agree with all of them I do think it’s really important to hear everyone’s opinion

I fully agree dude, I greatly regret expecting something from this update since for first time it was one of the updates that focusing on actual content instead of character RPG level up mechanic and it was cave content at that I was expecting like cool new things I could actually see in the caves when I go down there, but I learned my lesson. No more expectations ever for Klei ever lol...

The only thing from this update that looks cool is that depth worm boss which isn't even a boss but just some thing locked behind their silly "endgame" thing...

I don’t think the new worm is locked behind having to open rifts, it’s meant to be the caves version of Varg waves..

Why would it be locked behind rifts??

Not to be rude, but I believe that they specifically advertised this update as not a caves update, but rather just a bunch of generally shadow-related content, albeit it would be easy to interpret their quote differently. This is also only a beta, and they mentioned a multiple features in the stream that were not yet working in the beta itself, but since it is a beta voicing your complaints is also highly recommended, especially if you can voice potential ways to improve the problem, as the betas are meant so that we can help them make sure the update is generally good.

Also, one final thing that I noticed is that a lot of people are calling the worm boss a "boss" when I believe it is actually only really intended to be a difficult (and really fun) enemy, only really as much of a boss as a varglet or maybe treeguard. The great worm is not rift related at all but is rather a natural occurrence that condenses the large depth worm waves into much smaller waves but of a much more powerful enemy, just like the varglet does. It only has one real attack like a standard enemy, and it only has the tankiness of a tougher standard enemy, and it is quite easy to exploit its weakness and not get hit by it, like a standard enemy. However, mistaking it for a boss makes total sense considering that in the code it is labeled as a "worm boss", it looks big and awesome, fighting it is quite fun, its attack is really cool, and it has a more unique exploitable weakness similarly to what the modern boss formula is.

I mean, there's no "final boss" for the game since DST isn't a game like that. I was talking about this end game stuff they have been focusing on lately that is pretty out of place in DST. DST always had bosses but you were almost never required to defeat any of them for proper progression. All the loot was optional stuff.

Now you have to defeat at least one to access most of the stuff that's been added with the latest updates.

And most of these items are also pretty out of place in my opinion. DST used to have its own style with silly and unusual items like ham bats and football helmets. Now all these new items just feels like they could be from any generic rpg.

Adding a progression system like this to a sandbox game like DST is a really bad idea in my opinion. I would much rather to see updates adding more decorative items or more places to explore that available from day one.

Yeah, I mean I'm not furious or anything. Im just not a big fan of it. But I understand. I know how bad this fandom can get lol

"The team is currently working on a bunch of Cave content for you. We can't quite call this one a QOL - this is shadow related content that will introduce a bunch of new threats and rewards to the caves." this is a direct quote from the last intermission post. I know it doesn't specifically call it a cave update but still sounds like it would be a proper cave update specially since they say it's not a qol sot sounds more like a big content update.

And if you ask me this beta doesn't feel like "a bunch of cave content" or there aren't many "new threats a d rewards"

Not to mention all that weird rabbit king stuff that genuinely just feels more like an out of place lunar new year event

I do agree with that, I also see that the update could totally use more than just the voidwalking and bridges changes and the greater worm, and I understand that the four new shadow related threats all being clearly wip and post rift definately reduces their attrictiveness. I mainly just hop on random multiplayer servers for fun and leave after only a few hours at most, so I almost never get to experience rift content.

Now as a somewhat less related note, what if they were to somehow implement the rabbit king so that it is somewhatish like how the pig kings lunar year event became base game.

And I guess since I am allowed to voice my unpopular opinions here, I actually did not like voidwalking as I felt it was unbalanced and unnatural feeling and just gave an excuse to ignore some issues of caving, mainly the lack of tentapillar identifiability and ability to efectively cross gaps between cave sections (which are technically walled off from eachother and the void was just there because rendering walls was too laggy). Some ways to fix those issues could be to make an item like the ancient key, thulecite medalian, or astral detector (or add a new item) that can locate the proper tentapillar, tentapillar skins, or making a new boss to guard the atrium entrance, such as a varient of the great worm inspired by its wormhole like abilities. And the ability to cross gaps in the caves could instead be replaced by a dock-like tile that is meant to represent you mining out a tile, and perhaps they could be sorta like how the escapists does digging, where you can go a few tiles out from your starting point before you have to build a minor supporting structure. These dug out tiles could also be recollapsed by explosions or earthquakes.

You have indirectly convinced me to at least watch the "fanart gallery" part of the video that is shown before the stream starts ^^ Those at least I now know are definitely worth it, since seeing all this fanart makes me so happy.

For the rest, I will see about that if I will find a motivation to watch the whole actual stream. I suppose by now I will watch at least every "fanart gallery" part before the streams start from now on :')

Just now, NPCMaxwell said:

I actually tend not to watch the entire streams. On youtube you can skip 10 seconds forward or back with the j and k keys, so I use those to skip between all the parts that interest me.
