Hi everyone, a new beta just released!

This beta features new content in the Caves, including the Great Depths Worm, new thralls emerging from the Shadow Rift, and new items added to the Shadowcraft Plinth.  Above ground, you may also encounter the Rabbit King.

Instructions for accessing the beta branch can be found here.  As stated during our live stream, some of the content we have planned, as well as the new creatures' spawn mechanics, will be changed or added during the following weeks of beta.  We look forward to your feedback!

Other notes

  • Winona's vine bridges can now be used in the Caves.
  • Ghosts can now float over gaps in the Caves.

Notes for Modders

  • The mod release ID for this patch is R35_SANITYTROUBLES

Maybe my expectations where too high but this update feels *incredibly* small. There's nothing about any of the features that sticks out as being bad per say, if anything they're quite good, just, kinda random and disconnected in such a way that feels pretty disappointing. I feel like the lunar rifts have been a mile ahead of shadow rifts from the very start, and this doesn't close the gap much honestly. I really wanted more things that felt like I was developing the story, like you do with Wagstaff when you kill the mutated bosses. I feel kinda sad cause again, a lot of whats in this update looks neat, it just doesn't feel like what felt was going to come, but maybe I'm being entitled. I hope there's more focus on the caves next update cause they feel like a severely lacking part of the game, and this update did not remedy the issue in my eyes.

we have so many kings and queens but no princes nor princesses. It's quite a shame really.

(update still looks fun im very excited about it)

We also don't have any actual pawns, despite the chess references in the game

will we get a planar Lunar saddle too down the line?

would be sad if post rift beefalo riding was an exclusively shadow aligned thing.

????? NONE of the Lunar or Shadow gear and weapons require “Alignment” to Use… that only applies to character skill tree perks.

Here's the stats for the saddle btw:

image-6.png.43a756c386784edf3b44d4813d5b4f8a.png

Seems like a pretty well rounded saddle, having 18 additional planar dmg(vs war saddle 16 additional regular dmg), a little more speed than a default saddle(1.25 war, 1.4 default, 1.55 glossamer), and what appears to be some defense(also from my testing, just like war/battle saddle, it let's ya mount the beefalo while it's in a fight).

I think I'll gladly trade a little speed (compared to glossamer) and use this saddle fulltime late game tbh, it just seems nice all around and provides a nice bit of safety.

There's literally no reason not to use this saddle post-rift. Truly fitting stats for an endgame saddle.

I haven’t had a chance to play around with all the updates features yet, but I will give what I like about it so far from my experience (it’s only one thing because I’ve only played for a few hours) and some changes I think should be made.

I really like the new uses for the shadow atrium. For someone like me who dosent clear the ruins horribly often but loves fighting the shadow pieces it’s great incentive to fight them more often!

I think there should be a dreadstone pillar equivalent to the bridges where they don’t have to be repaired/replaced. It doesn’t have to be dreadstone but there should be an option for late game players who don’t want to repair them.

Here are a few ideas on how to make the tentipillar to the atrium easily visible I have a few ideas!

1.) do something like the ruins sinkhole in solo don’t starve where the base of the tentipillar is made partly/completely of Thulecite so it shows that its ruins related.

2.) put ancient murals (similar to the ones in the atrium) and/or Thulecite walls around it. For the murals you can put some instructions on how to summon the ancient fuelweaver (which in my opinion is needed in game so that way you don’t have to learn it form an external source)

3.) after you kill the ancient guardian for the first time you can see it when you equip the Thulecite medallion.

I haven’t played this update a ton but I’m super excited to test out the new features!

For some reason the beta branch option isn't showing up for me. Ive restarted my steam and checked multiple times but there is no update beta option in the betas tab. Only the base game and a beforemacoschanges

How do we feel about the Great Depth Worms being able to break structures? I haven’t experienced one naturally yet but I could totally see one absolutely destroying a base when they show up. like I said I haven’t experienced it yet but to those who have: should it be changed to where they can’t break structures?

Considering I have had a lot of experience fighting Eye of Terror when it’s Enraged and randomly spawns in my base? I don’t think Klei ever intended for large monsters like this NOT to do damage to your base..

But they’ll probably add a more determinable warning like the character commenting “the grounds rumbling a lot more than usual uh-oh.. TREMORS!”

And that should give you a rough idea to flea your base or suffer the consequences.
