What would you do with the iridescent gem?

Recommended Posts

The iridescent gem sits at the top of the “underutilized materials with a lot of potential” pile. What ideas do you guys have for the iridescent gem?

obv there can be an iridescent gem amulet and moonlens item, but I don’t have ideas for what either of these could do and I want to see what other more unique ideas ppl might have.

I’d personally like an upgrade to the houndius, giving it some moonrock accents on the thulecite base and giving the eye a glittery opal appearence. I have no idea what the upgraded houndius’s abilities would be but it’d look cool.

I think a future brightshade craft would be interesting. If we want more uses from it, there should also be alternative methods to obtain it. More variety would encourage more players to try getting one, which could lead them to engage with the Return of Them storyline, and just gives more options.

Regarding crafts, an weapon or armor would be cool and there's plenty of ways to go about it. It just has to be original. If I would have to say somethings that the endgame is lacking or hasn't been explored heavily....

  • Universal teleportation for all players. Comes at the risk of making other teleportation options less valuable though it can be balanced. Still something to note.
  • A power armor like the Living Artifact? I'd probaly make it so it isn't invincible but doesn't break and needs to be recharged with a potent resource.
  • A small "moon area"? Like an area with full moon effects. It could give light, werepigp stuff, glommer, etc. This could be gamebreaking but an idea for a much latergame item and balanced as a weaker moon.

Iridescent gem cup?

I really like this idea, assuming it’d also swap insanity for enlightenment. I could see this being a very cool looking structure as well.

A Lunuclear Missile.

Some more legitimate Ideas:
I kind of liked my idea (wow self bias who would have guessed?) of a weak version of the Brightshade Staff. It does something similar, bouncing between entities, fewer bounces and non-repairable.

A staff that works just like the Lunar Experiment but certain summoned creatures (Saladmander, Lightbugs, and Shattered Spider) to be temporarily followers. Once the duration ends they return to their natural states.

A crafting station that requires an iridescent gem to craft, allowing for the creation of Lunar Items in the Celestial Filter (ie the Celestial Orb or Celestial Altar) to be used on the main land. That way you don't have to sail to the Lunar Island every time you want to make an Axe, nor do you need to kill CC to make an Axe. Just requires an Iridescent Gem, or two, or three.

Someone mentioned an Iridescent amulet somewhere. I liked that idea, works like the Nightmare Amulet but for Enlightenment instead of 0 Sanity.

We have a Thulecite Crown, maybe a Celestial Diadem? A piece of armor that when struck by an attack has the Enlightened Crown effect of launching a Gestalt at the attacker. Could be neat as it could possibly maybe, be an alternative to the Thulecite Crown. Unlikely though given how cheap the Crown is but have it cost moonrock and an Iridescent gem, it could see some use for certain bosses possibly. Combine it with a Bramble Husk or WX electric damage return and it could be a neat tank combo.

Could be something simple as just allowing it to be socketed into a cratered moonrock for more possibilities.

Last suggestion is maybe we can use the Iridescent Gem as an item to repair staves? Though there ought to be a way to acquire it without requiring the deconstruction of a starcaller's staff. Maybe after the Archives are turned on you can just socket a yellow gem into the moon stone instead of requiring the full staff? Could make it one of the puzzles things from the water dispensers that rewards you with a craftable structure upgrade to the moon stone.

I'd like them to implement a weapon that, if you kill Crab King with Pearl + 8 Iridescent Gems, you get a special Boomerang weapon with 9999999 durability and 99999 base damage~

Honestly that made me think, an end game planar boomerang weapon could be so cool. Like, you can deal some nice damage at range, but if you fail to catch it? Hope you have some healing in store. Risk vs Reward.

All gems have a staff and amulet.

despite being a counterpart to the yellow amulet, i think it could do the reverse of the purple amulet and provide enlightenment (for the price of not being fuelable unless you have moongleams).

as for other crafts, maybe it could be used for smth related to the brightshade gear.

I want to eat it, it looks like a Very Special Mentos

Do you have Pica? /s

It would be very funny though if you can put it in a crockpot to make a dish that replace your sanity with lunacy for a few days.

In the past before bearger bin and crystaleyezer i suggested a freezer structure made with an opal and fueled with gleams that could freeze food. It would have a large storage capacity and serve as a less annoying alternative to bundling wraps for long term food storage at base.

And it would also make ice.

a reverse dfly furnace also comes to mind but we got the crystaleyezer instead

I am not serious i swear (or am I?) But if I could, and only I COULD decide I would craft a crown for Maxwell and ONLY Maxwell to wear that literally did NOTHING besides making Maxwell feel as if he was in charge of something again. (cosmetic addition: Characters near him will do some sort of curtesy animation as if Maxwell was some actual royalty)

Just to feed some narcissism.

I forgot to add:

And if you hover over Maxwell it will then read "King Maxwell"

EDIT: Either this or it will read the amazing Maxwell. I don't mind which one of both but that cosmetic change is mandatory.

Iredescent Gembell - Has all the previous effects of my (personal) reworked Wolfgang

Red - Slow Hp Regen while lifting, Lifesteal on hit, charges the gembell with hp if it damages when thrown that gives a burst of hp to whoever picks it up

Blue - Cooldowns the user as well as giving a temporary "freeze" to mightyness gain, gives half a point of freeze when hitting an enemy, works as it does not when thrown

Purple - no effect

Yellow - Slowly gives Wolfgang a glowing effect to disappears as time wanes on, simular to a glowberry

Green - Idk tbh

Orange - If wolfgang is ever standing still, he will passively life the Lazy Lifter, this does not do the normal lifting animation and he will stop as soon as the user starts moving, it is also the slowest to regain might while doing this.

--------

Woodie can uses this with dread stone and pure horror at the dreadstone crafting table to make the Lunam Occidere, a permenant amulet that allows him to completely negate the full moon while wearing it at the cost of a hunger and sanity drain while said full moon is active. It also prevents any gain of Enlightenment.

-------

Wes can eat it

When inserted into a Gemerator, the Gem will fully charge the generator but it will always run out in 5 minutes regardless of how many/little things are hooked up to it. Each generator efficency upgrade increases the duration by 1 minute. While charging a gemerator, pure brilliance can't be added to allow for planar strikes, but will make catapults lunar aligned like pure brilliance does.

I would like to use it as an upgrade to the lazy deserter, placing one inside will allow you to teleport to another deserter without needing a friend on the other side. Still costs the sanity though, maybe slightly higher cost because you have to "focus" on your destination? I imagine it would work like Winona's shadow goggles where it opens the map and the other iridescent deserters are highlighted. Obviously you'd need a lot of iridescent gems to make a teleport network so I believe it would be pretty balanced.

The purpose is to overcomplicated stuff by adding an exception on how gems work when you use deconstruct items with gems

And the event to acquire it serves the purpose of showing how people is okey with standing still afk instead of asking for a rework to make it funny and balances, but complains are reserved for fun by challenging stuff because a guaranteed victory isnt frustrating

I wish klei takes the time to improve the damn moon event because is a piece of content with potential

Even if a proper set-up gives the moon event a 100% success rate, I don't think that's a bad thing. It's a good lesson in enemy pathfinding, an upfront cost of materials if you do it wrong, and requires you to wait for a specific time-period to do it.

There is a buildup to the event, that I would consider to be part of completing the moon event. It's not a skill-based event, it's an effort-based one. So having that pay off with being able to perfectly block off the mobs is fine to me.

And yes, I know everyone with 10,000 hours of the game can whip up a half-hearted fossil-wall in mere moments without a second thought while they're rushing the ruins before they even get past the character selection screen, but hopefully we don't start basing content on that standard.

You guys must be fun at parties.

I understand having complaints with the iridescent gem and moon event but if you’re not going to be constructive and offer your own solutions and ideas then there’s really no point in posting. The point of this thread is to come up with fun uses for the iridescent gem, and while im normally not picky about threads being derailed i don’t appreciate this sort of negativity.

Klei could use iridescent gem to make moon rock idol instead of purple gem. :-D

Honestly this has been something I’ve thought about. This might be a bit too costly though, I was personally leaning more towards having the celestial portal itself cost an iridescent gem to upgrade, while the moon rock idols remain unchanged. That way the celestial portal is a bit more difficult to get without being too time consuming and tedious to use.
