World Settings Preferences

Just curious what world settings yall use if you don't use default.

I like to turn off Frogs because they don't provide anything of importance (unless you play as Warly), and generally don't do anything besides exist.

I am looking forward to WX getting their skillset so I can play them with a Rain World (Rain set to tons, ponds and reeds set to more, frogs, mosquitos, and merms set to more. Start in Spring, considering changing to Long Dusk to reflect the perma clouded skies).

So, what do you like to fiddle with?

I love to set at least the creatures (sometimes also additionally the  resources) on tons to make the world seem more alive. That's all.

I turn vultures off for simular reasons you turn off frogs, I turn on classic resource generation so I don't have to deal with twiggy trees as characters not woodie or maxwell, I turn on basic resource regeneration so I'm not worried about saplings that get caught by a burning tree, tweaked the world Gen settings to make the world generally less like a corridor. Caves has no special rules, but I would love a confog that makes them have clumpy areas instead of a whole lot of hallways

Usually I don't change anything and play as is if I'm playing by myself, though sometimes I turn on winters feast for funsies or I make more clockworks cause I can never find them half the time and I'm not in the mood to dig through tumbleweeds in the desert. Though whenever I play with my friend (she's a beginner and doesn't play often unless at my house) I usually turn on more touch stones and turn off the health penalty for revives. Sometimes I'll turn off hound waves cause that's usually how she dies after like the 3rd hound wave. I refuse to turn off frog rains though cause I like making her scream

I turn shoals on more, just makes the ocean more alive, all bosses on tons so merms have more fun :). Bats off after like 200 days. Then the other classics like wildfires off and classic world gen etc. I do love don't starve ruins so I always add that mod.

More of everything (including wildfires and damage taken) minus SeaStacks.. I hate those and either toggle them to less or none at all..

Between DST and DS Shipwrecked I’m extremely disappointed that Klei’s solution to fill out the ocean was a bunch of boring rocks to smash my boat into.

Like a complete fool I always had Wishful thinking, hoping that they were just filler until Klei could add something unique and interesting (like the different types of islands of shipwrecked) to replace them with.

But so far, that has mostly not been the case, and when they DO add new Ocean Content.. it mAlbatross, Ice Shark & Crab King..

Oh I also prefer to toggle Lunar & Shadow rifts to on from Day 1 in my worlds.

My lategame preferences are:

-No wildfires (see: the 500 threads about wildfires)

-No lureplants (no realistic way to counter them apart from using turf, which restricts like half of your possible build choices and basically all of the natural looking ones)

-Perma winters feast (this is mainly just because I like the little adornments you can get from the bosses, like mini trophies)

-No twiggy tree regrowth (these just don’t look nice around the map)

-“Endless” settings enabled (to avoid an incident where I AFK by accident and die and lose the entire world, alongside basic resource regrowth)

That’s mainly all I have changed. I usually change mechanics if the way to deal with them is impossible or practically unfun, and change them if they become so. Notably pre rifts I had earthquakes disabled, as the lack of pillars made moleworms pile up and it was pretty much impossible for the world to naturally clear them if you spend a long time down there. Same with forest petrification before embalming spritz.

I eventually turned off Disease when I learned what it was about (wtf). Now I keep it all vanilla.

I mean it would be really nice to at least have a few tiny islands or archipelagos that wasn’t some boss arena or cursed island. They wouldn’t even need to have much on them. Maybe could just be for the player to build something on.

I didn't realize it was possible to enable the rift content. Which toggle is this one specifically? I want even more variation in creatures.

The Greenish blue swirly ones.

(red and black for caves)

Be warned though… the content WILL spawn much more difficult versions of bosses, Armored Bearger will destroy everything in his path I think lol…

And Acid Rain in Caves is no Joke.

I don't mind! Dying and being a ghost is among my favourite activities in this game anyway :3

you can burn their corpses to prevent that

Good to know :wilson_evil:

Grass gecko morphing

I never really like them if I'm honest I did at one point made a cage for my grass for this reason but never really used it either I prefer picking the grass manually

Twiggy trees

I always put resource variety to classic for regular sticks

Forest petrification

Never really like this I know it's a good way for rocks but by the time this happen I would have stacks of rocks for structures or crafting purposes

Wildfires

I'm scared of what can happen to my base :wilson_dead: I dont usually base in oasis so I turned this off

Frog rain

I love the little froggies and when they harass other mobs by outnumbering them (moose goose in specific) the issue I had with this was the amount of food I kept getting from the frogs so I turned it off but as of recent of playing wurt and having this on they dont bother her so I kept this on

No branches in world (sometimes)

Every world generation is a nice surprise, with branches it makes the world a bit weird to navigate and my eyes has a hard time to find myself on the map

Endless worlds

When I played dst for the first time I was reading each of the little boxes to decide which one I would use in a world, in Rog and shipwrecked I liked the idea of if you die your world goes with you makes it very enjoyable and fun to see what a world holds for you I chose endless and stuck with it ever since then

I disable pirate raids, set pigs and merms to more because I really enjoy seeing those fellas around the world. And I normally reset my map if it's not a twiggy tree world as weird as it sounds, I really enjoy gathering twigs in those dense forest instead of just holding spacebar... And I feel like I get more twigs this way?... I'm not really into moving everything close to where I base, I tend to make a base close to those things, yes, but I really like walking around doing random chores
I normally don't make changes to branches and loops, but I love when the game generates a C shaped world, not that functional if there isn't many good wormholes but it looks really cool and forces me to sail a bit more. And I'm not even sure what World Size does but I use small because it feels like the biomes are less barren for some reason, but the world size normally is still giganormous anyways so??

I usually set that respawn timer to none (so if I die, the world regenerates) in the early days, then I add more time later, since in my opinion, dying in the early days and then trying to find a touchstone is just a waste of time. And yes, I did forget to change it one time and lost a great world once.

When I find a great world, I'll make a copy of it before day 5 and roll it back to day 1.

You should be able to determine if it's a world that's interesting enough by then.

is it a plant,  mineral or pig? max those babies uuuuup! is it a clockwork, a bee, a killer bee a treeguard, or a tentacle? moremoremore! is it a birchnutter? :wilsontea:

basically i have the same thought as npcmaxwell. dst feels so ☆*:.。.ALIVE.。.:*☆ when the "forest" is more than 30 trees and a rock  and there is more things in the desert than sand x''D

And then to add to it I sometimes use a mod that spawns setpieces intentionally with the maximum setpieces the mod allows / same with a forced biome mod, just to add even MORE life.

Though I wouldn't need those, if the old maximum creatures setting would still spawn them outside their home biomes.

But yes, what I disliked about DS/T the first time I played it was how DEAD everything felt without creatures. OK walking through a normal forest I don't see creatures every few seconds either, but then real world is full of tiny creatures we tend to oversee easily but they are around. While in DS most creatures are taller than bees or fireflies, so that's why DS worlds seem empty to me. (unless you assume you are constantly surrounded by tons of shadows / gestalts with only a few becoming visible when your sanity lowers / enlightment increases and still that would feel not enough fauna to me)

Feel free to explain, I'm always curious about other people's way of playing this game in non-multiplayer-mode

so i tend to crank up killer bees and clockworks, like, rather a lot in fact. i dont fight bosses unless i have to but i get a lot of enjoyment out of having absolutely too many mobs X''D in solo it is pretty common for me to die day 2-3

took a quick pick of a "cleared" spot i have already gone through and can safely get a screencap from XD as you can tell bishops tend to stick around just because they are a pain to deal with

I have a weird preference to rather die from being surrounded by random mobs, compared to fighting one tall monster (boss) and dying from them. If I understood this right this is rather similar, only that you also like to fight bosses?
