Wurt Shouldn't be Dry!

Wurt should have more ways to keep wet

Motivation: Wurt is an amphibian, benefits from being wet (via the perks), and is at home in a marsh! Thematically, it feels like she would naturally want to splash in the ponds to wet herself when dry, or to water herself with a watering can! Intuitively these things would be possible for a character to do, and since Wurt would a) want to do these as an amphibian and b) benefit from them, and so want to do them as a survivor! Enabling these mechanic would also provide nice gameplay, as her perks benefit from wetness and it would be nice to have a way to stock upon wetness at the base (either rewarding basing in the marsh/near ponds or enabled by crafting a pond, and bringing the marsh to you).

Ideas:

  • Enable Wurt to sprinkle herself with a watering can
  • Enable Wurt to splash around/through ponds and become wet in the process
  • Enable Wurt (possibly as a skill tree unlock) to craft ponds to splash in

when Wormwood, a plant, can fertilize himself, the merm should at least be able to use ponds or the watering can. or yes like suggested above to let her drown herself on purpose.

this also reminds me....since I've recently discovered that hounds seem to be able to jump into the ocean and swim, I'd love merms to be able to do something similar for marsh ponds. Simply for the "realism" added.

I'm sorry but that would be too easy to get wet and gain power with those skills.

Okay, and for example for Wigfrid to get her "Powers" you just need nothing to do, or maybe craft stuff that you can get day 1?!
For Willow you also dont need it or just Farm Bees day 1?

Why Wurt ALWAYS has to do tons of stuff all the game long while others just do it once (mostly on day 1) and are super fine? For more example Wormy, Wanda (who goes day 1-2 in Archive), Maxwell who doesnt need anything.. even without skilltree and so on.

As Wurt you need to go fishing 2 fish for 1 craft merm which is turned into merm king, rush lunar for kelps, get 10 pigskins, get beefalo wool, get 1 million Flint, Logs, Rocks, Gras, Tentacle Spots, Kill CC, Kill FW, Kill Crab King, fish even more because Mermking doesnt give good gold, fish more because Thermal-Fish, get mosquitos,

and when do you have time to make normal base? Or Dfly, or or or?

and then you say it would be TOO EASY to get wet?

This does indeed sound a bit unfair towards Wurt players, so at least a small method to make her become wet easily wouldn't sound bad. Maybe one could restrict her to only like bathing in swamp mosquito ponds?

um, you can use water-balloons on yourself

( I am not familiar with the multiplayer playstyle but) I wonder what if there is no wes existing? I thought he was the ballon-crafting person?

nevermind I forgot you are basically throwing water filled mosquito corpses at each other....

in that case Wurt shouldn't be having a shortage of those, I suppose?

Why the change is possible, and reasonable:

I disagree. As is, even with all skills unlocked, the benefit of being wet is actually pretty minor: minor health, and minor sanity. I don't think enabling those gains via a trip to a pond would be problematic. As is, even with all wetness skills unlocked, I don't think seeking out being wet is clearly worthwhile. The benefits are just too minor to justify much opportunity cost.

Compare, for example, to Willow's Fire skills (the Lighter ones), for the minor cost of using the lighter on two spiders (to collect two embers), Willow can effectively solve sanity, light and winter cold (via the fireball spell) for multiple days - for multiple players! These same embers can be used for great combat effect, e.g., easily defeating a hound wave, or an unlimited number of spiders (via the combustion skill). It's strong, but also feels great to use.

I don't think Wurt needs that kind of power in the amphibian skills, but I do think there is scope for making it easier to become wet, without breaking the game!

Why the change is necessary:

Because Wurt now has a reason to become wet, the wetness mechanics now feels immersion breaking. E.g., if Wurt can become wet by filling up a mosquito sack at a pond and then throwing that on herself then why can she not just splash water on herself from the pond?! It breaks immersions, and makes no sense!

Furthermore, while Wurt is very fun as is, the issue is that the amphibian skills feel frustrating to take. Even after unlocking the current skills, the benefits of being wet don't seem especially worth the time investment of becoming wet (as the befits are small, and becoming wet takes effort and the opportunity cost of doing other things). For example, if it takes 5 water balloons to reach 100 wetness then that is 5 water balloons (+5 skill points) for 50 effective health. Compare that to eating 3 potatoes (and gaining 60 health, and a lot of hunger too)! This lack of gameplay impact (due to the benefits not clearly outweighing the opportunity cost) makes the skills feel bad to take as though they are obviously beneficial (e.g. a nice sanity boost in spring), most of the time the skills aren't providing much noticeable value.

You already can build a boat and jump in the water. More than enough

Honestly doing it this way is kind of awkward I do think having more options wouldn't hurt. That having been said I think it'd be better if we could just create mosquito hives to make water balloons more consistently obtainable.

Making hives would be cool

Well Mosquitos dont always drop Sacks.. its 50 Dropchance i guess.

Also people even complain when i got 3-4 Bees as Wicker because the sound of them is annoying imagine now having tons of Mosquitos around you.

I actually don't know, since I usually only do singleplayer with either Maxwell or Wilson (therefore not using Wickerbottom's spells without a Wickerbottom to craft them obviously). BUT I can agree that the mob noises can indeed be a bit complain-inducing when they appear in masses. So........hmmm I get this makes it a bit harder for Wurt to get her balloons again.

Isn't it a bug that you sometimes fall off a boat?

Do you know how much it costs to make so many Waterballons? Also if you now get Mosquitos for like Skeeter Bombs and stuff than you now need again more for getting Wet?

You can use ice too in order to get 4x more balloons.

What’s OP here, exactly? You telling me people would abuse stunlocking themselves mid-fight to use a watering can just to gain the equivalent of a bone armor?
