could you elaborate bro?

Theres this unused backpack that people want in the game

It also implied that backpacks used to have a "spoiling" mechanic were if you left a backpack on the ground long enough it will become moldy.

Disgusting, but I would adore more disgusting items to exist! It would be even funnier if there was an option for some characters to refuse to pick up certain items as they refuse to eat certain food. (to make other players / shadowservant do the gross work for them lol)

Anyway moldy backpack = funny = I love funny stuff = I'd cheer for backpacks spoiling.

I guess the reasons why the remove backpack spoiling is because

1) it would mean they would have to make moldy backpack looks for all backpack skins which would be a pain

2) people use different backpack skins to tell were cercent items are, it would be hard to do that if all of them just look the same if they were kept on the ground for too long

When Skins got introduced there was a mechanic that skinned backpacks would turn into the mouldy Backpacks after a while when left on the ground. I think this was a mechanic to prevent one person crafting a pile of skinned backpacks for everyone or something like that.

The mechanic got removed pretty soon though, but apparently the asset was left in the game.

it was like a few years, actually

the backpack now has a loyal quality to it (instead of originally common), and i believe worlds with the backpack still have it if you let your backpacks rot back then

As much as I hated it back then, I'd like the Mouldy Backpack to return in some other way.

The worst thing about it was the punishment of leaving your backpack on the ground only applied to skinned backpacks and not the normal one. The graphic was really ugly but would match Survivors theme! Maybe just make it a redeemable skin, or a Loyal one? Or a part of the Survivors collection!

Also, the Mouldy Backpack could be found in setpieces, like the one with Honey Poultice and Rook! It's been in the world for who knows how long, so it could get Mouldy.

I miss it...

I would even buy it for double the price, I would really like to see it in the game as a skin, if it is still from the collection of survivors, it will be the best day of In my life:wilson_love:

No one asks for his mechanics. Everyone is asking for it as a skin:D

I will give 2 times more money or threads for this, if it is added, please, we really ask you to return it as a skin, if it is still from the collection of survivors, it will be the best day of your life

I just added a function to my custom Maxwell mod to refuse picking up poop so now I also want him to refuse picking up his forgotten fluff-stinky backpack too!!!

This is a cool idea, but I'm afraid there will be a civil war on the server for this Backpack:wilson_laugh: (it's easier to make the skin and it's more accessible)

I've been dreaming about this for years!

Yep. For the longest time back in the day, the only items that would get skins were just backpacks, torches and spears, and backpacks were the most permanent of any of these, so they would "spoil" if left on the ground for too long to incentivize buying/trading for the skins yourself rather than just having a friend leave 20 of them on the ground for a whole server. There were some misc skins for stuff like top hats and winter hats eventually, but it wasn't until the Forge came out that belongings as a concept became so common that there was really no reason to single out backpacks anymore. This game has a weird history with skins! On a similar note it's crazy to think about how even skins that were weavable back then used to be on a schedule: you could only weave Verdant skins during the spring, Forge skins whenever the Forge was active, Gorge skins when it was active, and the majority of Hallowed Nights/Winter's Feast skins weren't even weavable at ALL... though of course you could buy any of these year-round, either directly from Klei or from the Steam market.

When people describe how greedy Klei's monetization practices are now, I always think about just how bad it actually used to be.

You'd think so, but I remember being surprised to load up one of my old worlds I'd played since 2018 and find that there didn't exist a single moldy backpack in the whole world, they'd all been refreshed to the skins they previously had years before.

You’re a mod creator right? It would be better if the moldy backpack COULD be picked up and you could store stuff inside it, but over time stuff would fall out of it.(like using a book back in school with a hole in it that dropped one of your pencils or erasers out every so often)

Mechanically speaking.. it would be like having a invisible frog attached to your character following you that after a certain time allowed would “lick” you forcing dropped stuff.

I am not really a mod creator, just someone who finally started to make a custom character who I want to play instead of the regular maxwell x) And I'm just trying out some funny stuff to do with him (e.g. not making him be able to pick up gross things by himself.) So I want him to NOT be able to use the moldy backpack simply because it's too filfhy to touch it. Also I just sat several hours to not make the game crash until the not-touching-gross-stuff worked so I am glad it kind of works. I wouldn't even know how to make the backpack functional but falling appart. lol some actual mod creator would have to do that. I just want my own maxwell to be a civilized man who lets his shadow servants pick up stuff for him. (like giving his quote for e.g. Bull Kelp- "Disgusting. I'll have someone else pick it." an actual meaning :wilson_evil: )  So basically I won't be able to play with the moldy backpack as my own Maxwell at all, but I can enjoy his reaction when refusing to touch it and that's already perfect for me x)

But if moldy backpack becomes a part of this game I hope someone actually "attaches" the invisible frog tongue to the moldy backpack. That's a cool idea x) If it gets included, I will be having so much "fun" with this item when playing as Wilson and losing my stuff all the time :wilson_ecstatic:

Omg I’ve been wanting something that rots stuff faster for so long. It’s just I nice quality of life add on that could great for the photosynthesisers of dst. I do think that it should be a structure, not a unique item. I do LOVE the skin as a skin.
