Appropriate penalties for non Winona's using telebrella and telepad.

Recommended Posts

It's so powerful to have a fast travel network like Winona has. So much so, that even a fraction of such a power in the hands of the other survivors would go a long way to make the game accessible to all players. This game has become something else than what it was a year ago. Depending on how long you've been playing, the game can undergo a whole genre shift.

Winona's teleportation is great, but having non Winona's look at the network and make absolutely no use of it is kind of a bit of a shame in a sense. All that work for a single character and all the space allocated.

I think we should explore certain drawbacks if other characters decided to use the telebrella to the point of it being almost unfeasible.

Here are my ideas

Sanity cost of around 50 points with inability to use the systems without regaining sanity

Health penalty or maximum health reduction. Other characters can not be as intricately adept at use so they don't materialize whole.

Hunger drain. A common trope of teleportation while not being used to it is throwing up.

And just for Wanda and Wortox, not having these penalties apply would be little flavor buffs.

i really just think winona should be able to take other survivors with her under the portasol the same way she can take items with her

It would be hard to resist setting up a teleporter in the pig village and seeing the local Webber innocently crafting stuff at the alchemy engine

damn straight... once or twice I decided to show some unsuspecting pub babies the ruins w/ wanda rift watch... it's so fun. and probably ultimately not harmful. if you manage to get them out before they're harmed.

Just have a lazy deserter on each side.

First they tried catapults. Then they saw that they succeeded. Now they want teleportation. And next to that, we have Wigfrid players who don't accept her downsides. They just want the benefits.

Tbh the thing with catapults was they were the only good aoe option for farms, so I think it was fine what they went with in the end. Non-Winona using parasol doesn't really feel right though, but I like other suggestions in this thread with it relying on Winona herself.

Lol you're acting like I agreed with this, I don't. Was just a suggestions since that's what the post is talking about.

I don't think other characters should use her teleports bc now this is a huge part of her, and without it she might be back to being a swapabble character, especially if the penalty is sanity loss, which is which is super easy to restore. In my opinion, she's fine as she is right now.

I think it would be cool if others could stand on the teleporter with her. That way she still has to use it herself, but others can benefit from it too. Essentially a much cheaper version of wandas rift watch, it won't step on Wanda's teleports either since it can't go across shards.

Yeahhhhh no. As much as I dream of the idea of using the portasol as anyone else, I have to stop and accept that it would be ridiculously overpowered, to the point it quite literally eclipses the gimmick of both of the other teleporting characters (the idea of Wortox and Wanda using portasol’s to get around is a cursed thought to me…).

Really all this post says is we desperately need buffs to our existing options, and I still wish we got one for the telelocator focus. If it worked like a bootleg where you could select which (loaded) focus to warp to along with a way to utilize it in the caves, that alone would give it a massive buff its needed for so long.

That would be better than the telebrella

Later on, yes. If you have the means to expend dozens of purple gems and have the sanity means to recoup it, then you should be rewarded with an alright teleport option compared to a character that can pretty realistically setup a decent teleport network across the map by about the first spring, and even then its not by that much.

I mean tbf catapults were a much bigger part of her than teleports even now.

I for one welcome our new meta viable overlord who combines all perks into a single character for peak convenience you dare question it? Then simply don't use it.

Spoiler

This is a joke.

I agree catapults are a big thing for her, but before the skill tree it was the only thing she had and now she has catapults PLUS teleports, free revives, craftable winbots, a reliable way to get scrap etc. What I'm trying to say is that if Klei decides to take away the new things implemented only for her, she might turn back to what she used to be before the skill tree and just be the catapult girl again. She's more than that now.

I mean yea she has additional stuff but her core is still catapults and even her skill tree reflects that. It'd be like considering Wurt the mosquito merm due to the mosquito branch. Merms still define her but that's not to say the mosquito crafts don't open up new gameplay opportunities.

Even if klei did give everyone access to her telebrella this still remains the same. That being said I feel it's weird to say a affinity locked in choice is what defines her.

This is not me saying she should share this ability however I'm completely against it.

I think we might have to agree to disagree then, I've been playing strictly Winona after this update and I honestly feel like I use the teleports  so much more than the catapults, I benefit from them every single day instead of catapults for a quick boss rush. Not trying to undermine the power of catapults, not only they're powerful but being able to carry them around is really good, just saying that after playing 200 days with her new skill tree, I've been enjoying the teleports a lot, they have a huge gameplay impact.

I mean it's fine to enjoy them but even then there are going to be plenty of Winonas who use the shadow skills instead or even those who forgo the final mastery altogether so it feel weird to me to call them her primary ability. I can accept it as a impactful ability though.
