Walter is getting a raw deal here.

Big woby speed is insane for early game exploration, no sanity drain and no piggyback speed penality plus woby inventory means i can haul back an insane amount of ruins gear after a ruin rush which sets u up for a long time. Rushing celestial portal and shadow pieces easily is a really nice qol to have.

Extra inventory space with woby allows better use of body slot items like mag or hibernation vest. 

This makes Walter one of the best characters to make use of a mag constantly if you dont want to tame a beefalo or use big woby. Useful at all stages of the game.

Walter is just so convenient for skilled players. Hes a better wx as hes got WXs speed bonus in the form of big woby plus more inventory. Just have to be good at kiting as Walter or dont be good at kiting and use pinecone hat with body armour.

Wilba is indeed an interesting character. It's really a pity that it wasn't ported to DST.
But if one day, Klei really transplanted her. I hope to bring along the technology of pig people.

I am solloing a world as Walter. 

To me, Woby's extra speed is more usedul for public servers, but in solo it's meaningless since you tame a beefalo ASAP.

Ruins rush with Walter - in order to use his extra inventory solts, you need to have enough tulecite which means either mining or killing AG, and probably killing both bishops guarding the station (repair the broken one). All tasks are dangerous when unprepared - you need armor and healing even more that other characters just to be confident. Simply traveling undergroud is a pleasure for Walter, however. 

Awerall, Walter is not bad, but I personally was annoyed by feeding him since he loses hunger so fast... He is hunger management character cause sanity - no issue when no damage/in the forest with pigs, health - no issue with his tent. But hunger... never felt anyone to become hungry so fast as Walter.

So this tierlists are based on quote unquote "power"

They take into account how easy it is for a character to do special things that make survival, killing bosses, and farming easier. Wilson is by no means a bad character, but he's not a very eh... powerful character, almost everything he makes, others can do easier or faster (keyword 'almost', as some charas are worse than Wilson in things like, healing, befriending pigs, surviving 100+ dmg, etc).

Si yeah, I'm the kind of person that never plays Wilson, out of the boringness of him not having a lot to do. Many consider me to be wrong and I don't blame them.

Ok I might've been a liiiitle bit unfair with Walter, but let me open a case here. Walter is slow at shooting, but having a slingshot is actually pretty cool sometimes. Yet you might not really want to use it much against bosses because of the slow-paced shooting (Please Klei give him a skill tree that fixes thisss). Wolby has 9 extra slots, pretty cool, and also pretty minor, knowing Maxwell can have 12 interconected slots that anyone can access across the shard and also conveniently interconects with shadow chester, opening a lot of dum strategies, like having a friend in base, taking resources into chests while you are away farming them, or giving them a hot/cold thermal stone in-demand.

Walter has just 9 slots... I guess you can place the meat there and have no bunnies aggro onto you?

The early exploration with big Wolby is cool, but as Jazzy once showcased on a video, the best strat with Walter is to actually tame a Beefalo. That way your beef can be a meat shield protecting you against both damage to your hp, and to your sanity, providing *potentially* infinite speed boost, not needing to feed them 3 monster meats every now and then and let's not forget the speed boost Wolby has, constantly goes down until they transform back into normal Wolby.

Also Bees. Not a huge deal but unavoidable +10 dmg or something.

From my own, limited experience, Walter was more of a nuisance early game, and irrelevant mid to late game, even compared to Wilson who can have more powerful torches for better early game and transmutation for easy late game nitre, and more efficient crockpot recipes.

Haven't played enough characters to develop much of a tier list, but I don't see how Wortox can be anything but F-tier.

Gets Webber's entire drawback, but no spiders to make up for it. (At least he'll appreciate the irony in rock lobsters being terrible at "following"?) 50% penalty on every food stat. Instead uses souls that only recover 25 food or 20 health, stack to 20 (or else). He takes only 50% sanity loss from monsters. (Good thing there's not a character with absolutely 0% of that or the dark, right?) He can teleport. (Good thing nobody else can do that, right?)

Wanda is way to hard for me that I just forgot about her. She’s too much to manage, like during the night, especially in winter, I always find myself without light, so I end up just camping at base til day. ( I still kinda suck at the game, even though I’ve been playing for many years) Also, in my opinion wortox is good, because idk if you knew this but he can teleport on the map too. So let’s say you have 20 souls, and you want to travel to the lunar island in 3 seconds, just hover over to it and press a singular button. And if each souls heals 20, and your fighting a boss that summons more enemies, you basically don’t need to make any healing food.

4) Curious to know why you rank DST Wickerbottom above DST Maxwell here. Are you ranking based on the presumption that you can't swap characters with celestial portal?

1. Wilson is the balanced character. What’s there not to like? 2. DS WX is easy to get high hp, and DST wx can literally negate downsides of entire seasons, have 500 health, not have to worry about darkness, ruins rushing, no drain from spoiled food, give everyone 10 sanity per minute, and what’s their downside? Getting damaged by rain. And what can WX do? Have 500 health to kill deerclops, and get an eyebrella. Problem solved. 3. Wolfgang is a really boring character in dst. At least in DS you need to maximize your hunger to have max damage. 4. I am ranking this off of just playing as that one character, no switching. But still, Wickerbottom is better imo, because she literally doesn’t have to worry about food late game, on tentacles is OP, wildfires aren’t a problem for her, and her downsides are easy to negate. Not being able to sleep isn’t that bad because I only sleep sometimes when sanity and health are really low, it’s not that bad. And the spoilage downside isn’t bad either because making food for her is easy. And just saying you don’t have to agree with me here. This game has different characters for different playstyles. And I still respect your opinion no matter what.

What do you mean WX needs better endgame scaling? He has so many different options to customize and play around with. Also again why is Wilson AT THE BOTTOM? Also I still respect your opinion. This game has different characters for different playstyles.

The teleport is good but doesn't make up for his downsides, IMO. The entire time you're not teleporting, he's somewhere between Warly and Wes.

You actually have to kill the enemies instead of pan fluting or kiting them, though. Shadow monsters don't drop souls, so AFW is out. That's limited to AFW, BQ, CK, and DFly? (Varg and spider queen, if you count them.)

Edit: I suppose you could lure certain bosses to killer bee hives?

I'm more so a Wolfgang main, but I consider WX to be my all-time favorite character. The problem I have with him in DST is that he's pretty good at most things, but usually I need a character that's really good at some things. WX's extra speed/vision/temp-resist is fun to use, but I'd rather fight with Wolfgang/Wanda, clear ruins with Wolfgang, farm with Wormwood/Maxwell, etc.

I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve just always loved WX. Every time I make a new world I take 15 minutes looking through characters,  and then just end up picking WX again.
