Has anyone come up with an effective strat against Brightshade infestations?

Recommended Posts

With the way these updates are going out, much of the excitement is locked behind the endgame of rifts. I'm a very casual and comfy style player. I like to farm, gather around the base and cook dishes. I do not want to risk my life doing this because of a brightshade batch popping up and I forgot my weapons or armour somewhere very close by.

So my question is has anyone found a way to protect their crops and grass/twig bushes from having brightshade muck them up literally forever?

Either farm/plant brightshade prone plants underground, or make/abuse brightshade spawning mechanics

Either that or just dont turn on rifts/turn off brightshades in the menu. No shame, i like turning off sharks bc they randomly kill my sea plant flower babies

Afaik you can still plant a crapton of dragonfruit next to the magma pools and, as long as this 'garden' is bigger than your other areas with replanted plants, brightshades will arrive at the dragonfruit location and die due to magma before the next wave spawns

I am using a mod shows Brightshade range, around I put some trees that shows its range, then outside that range I do my farming, put my bushes and grass tufts, I can't mention the maximun range but the minimal is around the initial brighshade that could be max 3 brighshades, so there should be only one. Many ways to boost this strategy! I took it from my favorite streamer MelonGo

Brightshades for me personally are easier to kill than a single Pigman by himself. Even a cluster of Brightshades while troublesome, can be dealt with.

If you have rifts toggled on then you have access to the Brightshade Hammer, and while it’s not as effective as a Brightshade sword, It is a hammer, Pickaxe & a weapon all in one item.

I use these to deal with Brightshades (cause I’ll be using them for hammer and Pickaxe purposes and always have them in my inventory anyway)

You need to stretch the Brightshades vines outward, and attack the hump part on the vine, DO NOT Directly attack the Brightshade until you break its vines.

Once the vines are broken, you can get in 12-14 hits before it recovers- Do Not get greedy… do 6-8 if you can’t reliably get the full hit amount in, and get the eff away from it before it recovers.

If you get good at it, Brightshades can be killed on the first or second vine severing.

They thankfully don’t recover health points, so you can slowly just take your time doing as many hits as you feel comfortable dealing and then breaking its vine to stun it again.

BEEFALO can be more deadly/dangerous than a Brightshade honestly lol..

I tend to farm in the caves once the surface rifts are active. It requires a bit of a setup for a laid back play style but once you build a pillar to prevent boulders from falling, walls against Depths Worms and a Scaled Furnace nearby for warmth during winter it makes for a very relaxed farming experience. The only thing that is needed is a spot in a cave where natural light appears. On the plus side if you have a pond in the vicinity you get easy access to water since cave ponds don't freeze during winter nor spawn any hostile mobs. During winter it can also rain in the cave and your crops get watered for free.

I do 3 things,

1. Passive Brightshade Farm. Saw this from Laknish Monster on YouTube, you plant the fireproof dragon fruit in a tight circle around dragonfly’s lava ponds. I try to pack as many as I can while still being within damage range. You can do this by wearing scalemail to make yourself fire proof, and either playing wormwood or using a garden dig-a-ma-jig which surprisingly works on turf lava ponds are on. You want to pack as much dragon fruit within the damage range because bright shades like to prioritize large packs of player planted stuff. This didn’t fully solve the problem but made them much less common in base.

2. Dummy crop farms. Just pick a spot kinda close to base but out of the way and pack as many seeds as you can there, and you’ll be sure to snag some of them to deal with at your convenience.

3. Brightshade Staff with the Enlightened Crown is a great weed whacker. You’ll need lots of sanity recovery, I use banana shakes, but spamming the Brightshade staff at a pack of Brightshade while avoiding the vines will blend them with the extra gestalts attacking. The orbs bounce between each plant AND their vines, spawning a gestalt each time. I consistently stagger and kill them without problem. It takes me two full staves to do the job but if you’re smarter you can use the staff to stun them and then deal damage with another weapon to save resources a bit.
