This made me thinking...

Recommended Posts

Today a post made me think about it.

Charlie should straight up ignore your armor.

Just think about it, she isn't hitting you from somewhere, she just spawns "inside" you, i guess, and attacks your body from there.

So, make charlie always deal the same set amount of damage (100) to every chracter.

most attacks clearly don't hit your head but wearing only head armor still reduces them as normal

Charlie is different from every other attack tho.

she isn't there but at the same time you can feel her presence

she can do whatever she wants in the dark, so i think it would pretty neat as a feature.

pretty sure inside human body it is dark as light cant travel deep.
so if it was true charlie can just kill players at anywhere, anytime.

So no, charlie just blend in with the dark, and the attack come from below ground.

I don't think the damage animation is supposed to be some profound loredump, it's just something that was necessitated due to the introduction of multiplayer. You aren't supposed to see how you're getting damaged, and it even directly contradicts the character quotes which have been in for many years longer than the animation.

getting hit by charlie is already a weird event even when you are new to the game so making that mistake a punish instead of just receive 20 damage with football helmet isnt bad ..

since i started playing i thought charlie did true damage because make no sense to block her but one day i thoug i would die cuz i was low on hp but survived her

It seems like there are many who play the game who aspire to die on the hill called "Fixing what isn't broken"

so in your mind you can post something on the forum only if it is something which needs to be fixed?!

People share their opinion on forums because they are made for this.

if i didn't misunderstand you i think you are saying something which is not good to say on forums.

I'm just saying it's not broken. But for an in depth point of view from me, it takes away a little bit of creativity when dealing with one problem. Say if you have no twigs or wood in your inventory and night breaks, you're screwed without a light source because of pretty significant mistake. It is significant. But suddenly, darkness isn't a death sentence because you have grass and pig skin in your pockets. Perhaps you have monster meat and a terror drop.

You have a solution to a problem that is a little flexible. Lord knows it's saved me in times I've made day 1 mistakes. Even recently.

To add, Charlie striking doesn't need to be in absolute pitch darkness. In my standard of pitch darkness, it's a state where you cannot pick up items or ctrl+F attack. When you have the minimum amount of light to perform actions in pitch darkness, there's a possibility that charlie is still able to strike you.

Again, this isn't broken and adds a layer of depth to problem solving. Light is objectively better than surviving strikes from Charlie. No damage is better than some damage.

Also it's just a little unfair against Maxwell. One mistake you cannot take back once it's underway without any alternative counter measures in armor.

I simply disagree, but I wanted to keep my take short with the simple "Why fix what isn't broken?" angle. But there's a bit more that goes into this.

Where I can help it, I don't get attacked by charlie because 9 times out of 10, it's a run ender. Veterans get hit even less by charlie. Veterans get hit so few times, it's optional for them. The only players who suffer are new players.

When it comes to game difficulty, the burden of risk perhaps should be shifted against veterans instead of people who have recently purchased the game.

Darkness is already a filter against new players. I think that if you get your way, the only ones who suffer are them.

It also drains your sanity.

20 damage to health, 20 damage to sanity, and 80 damage to armor is a pretty big penalty, especially considering the fact that it happens repeatedly every 5-10 seconds until you enter light again. A new player is likely going to not know how to deal with insanity and already have mid to low sanity, so even if the damage doesn't kill them they're likely to go insane and die from the shadows they can't see.

I don't know where anyone is getting the idea that darkness isn't dangerous to new players from, it's probably the #1 cause of death.

I got the impression from the Charlie attack animation that the attack was hitting the character in the back and then exiting through their mouth, not originating from inside of them. There's a sort of burst of shadow behind the character that I figured was where it was first striking them. So I think it makes sense for armor to help protect against it.

How about then just.. insta-killing you? No matter what you wear. Charlie just sucks the soul out of your character because you dared to stand your ground in darkness beside her highness. Am sure this will make game-play en large oh so much more fun and engaging. Because people just love fatal jump-scares and being dead. Totally no discouragement will occur.

I agree, it would make the game more "uncompromising"

i didn't suggest that change to make the game harder.

it was a fun little thing i thought about.

Another funny thought: garlic powder should still work technically. Infact it should completely make charlie unable to hit you because she refuses to be inside your stomach to smell your vile guts.
