Objective flaws of the game that are not up for debate or argument.

Recommended Posts

  • Trees dying while you chop them: When you chop a tree, their growth timer should be paused for a few seconds. Nothing is more annoying as when a Evergreen turns into his last stage just before your last chop and you only get a Pine Cone.
  • Nightmare Creatures blocking placement: If you want to plant or place something and other players are insane, the Nightmare Creatures are blocking a big area. They should be ignored, if you plant/place something.
  • Followers being in your way: Like a big Woby in a base, so you have to rotate camera to open chests, ice boxes or crock pots. We need a possibility to "park" them somewhere.

The thing that increasingly confuses me is that so many things people complain about on the forums are things that I find fun and alright. Pearl's quests? Sailing in DST? Acid rain? The Eye of Terror targeting a random player? Gimme!

Also, I still don't get the complaints about the EoT random target. Hasn't that always been the same thing with Deerclops too? I thought it's part of the challenge to organize with everyone before you start the fight. The same way you tell everyone to leave base on night 30 or ask before you use any of Wicker's more spicy books.

Oh boy, I wonder if there will be any debates or arguments in here!

This thread has actually been extremely civil and adherent to consensus. The things I've stated excluding my personal bias against the eye of terror have been generally agreed upon to be problems that take away from the game.

I'm lost.

What's the difference between an "objective flaw in the game that's not up for debate" and an oversight/bug, such it cannot be filed as a report, or akin? What solidifies the listed issues as objective?

Does it boil to personal preference? I feel like some of the things I've glanced over here come down to views and/or something that seems like it'd be best suited for a thread of its own allowing people to weight in their views on said subject.

The major points I made are likely bugs that have indeed been reported, however, these were identified as bug a little late and have since been reported before me making this post.

The problem is, generally, whatever is in the bug report forums stays in the bug report forums. It's like the las vegas of bureaucracy and to add, when the bugs were reported, from my understanding of the heavier hitters than myself, the actual scientists of don't starve who delve into the game code and actually lab the problems, a few of them were chastised by the developer team for not reporting it when the issue arose.

Because of this, the "objective flaws not up for debate" aka bugs, aren't such a high priority for correction. It's a bit of a rabbit hole of consulting with discussions taking place outside of the forums, but I actually appreciate you dropping a post on this thread, as the discussion continues and there will be further reaching discourse about the said objective flaws.

I'll admit, almost every single one of my posts pushes an agenda, but the one I'm pushing now I truly believe will benefit all players.
I omitted the eye of terror issue I have with the game because it is very unfortunately a subjective issue. It might in fact be an issue that 99 out of 100 players dislike, but 1 person of the 100 actually likes this mechanic, statistically speaking.

The issues I listed are those that take away general agency from players. The way to make a game more difficult is not jumbling controls to be unreliable.

Fighting games would not be popular if you pressed block but instead taunt came out.
Racing games would not be fair if you turned right but instead you went into reverse.

You can make a game more difficult without compromising on the game's base controls and ease of use.

the las vegas of bureaucracy

But I will not let the bug forums be the las vegas of bureaucracy. I'm the test that came back positive. I'm the mountain of debt you borrowed from the loan shark. I'm the video footage degeneracy in the archives.

I will not let this issue stay in vegas.
