Celestial Champion Flowchart

Recommended Posts

Can you just type it out in text a step by step guide on what I need to do to reach that part of the game?

because looking at your above picture, I need to do a lot of stuff for Crabby Granny that I didn’t even have any clue she wanted done.

A lot of things I've overlooked cause my brain just autocompleted them in my head (though tbh, I was actually being a bit lazy).

Tell me more things I am missing and I will add them if I see a point.

Currently this is what I have. Everything at and below the Astral Detector is a WIP. ( I removed the Wicker book b/c it got too confusing. I might add it later once everything is done).

Most intuitive DST boss summon process:

Least convoluted DST mechanic

Calling the Celestial Champion summoning process unintuitive or convoluted feels disingenuous, it's like saying the final area of an RPG is too convoluted to get to because each area before it has several puzzles that are all being counted as "the process to get to the final area" rather than simply the rest of the video game before that point.

The Lunar Island is an incredibly guided and intuitive experience from the moment you disembark onto it through its many set pieces and overall amazing design. Pearl is an intuitive mechanic due to how NPCs work, and she literally tells you exactly what she'd like you to do at all moments. The archives assume a certain amount of knowledge passed down from older players to get through the ANR bits of the process, but I'd say still do a decent job of conveying to you that this special staff you may have stumbled upon can have its gem unsocketed somehow, and any person who's played most any other survival sandbox game shouldn't have a hard time figuring out what the astral detector is for. Moonstorms are a clearly important event that are permanently visible on the map and the game once again tells you exactly what it would like you to do the second you find Wagstaff in there, the worst thing about it would just be having to go back to the Lunar Island each time you get enough resources for the next stage of the experiment.

I understand why it would maybe not look great when presented as a flowchart with so much information, but it's an entire sandbox game's worth of progression. It's like playing three worlds of Super Mario to get to world four, just in a game with a more open format.

One question. Why are Fallounder and Bloomfin Tuna coming from Waterlogged on the chart? They are seasonal fishes, added lond before Waterlogged even existed. The only native fish to Waterlogged are are these pink fish that you catch mainly with figs.

They can spawn in the waterlogged biome so i guess it's a more specific location to show than just ocean

They spawn more often in the waterlogged, +20% chance.

Have you seen anyone actually figured this process out without a guide?

This is what I wrote out for my buddy and I's playthrough. It's un-edited and contains personal notes as well and I noticed a few minor details are incorrect. Enjoy:
Celestial Champion Effort

  1. Crabbit Hermit (Pearl) Quest Line to get Pearl’s Pearl and to get the Pinchin’ Winch blueprint (both needed for Crab King)

    1. Obtain a message in a bottle while sailing (helps locate island and we need it to trade for pinchin’ winch blueprint)

    2. Find Pearl’s island in the ocean

    3. Need to increase friendship level with Pearl to level 10 by completing tasks for her

      1. Upgrade her home

        1. Level 1 - 10 Cookie Cutter Shells, 10 Boards, and 1 Firefly

        2. Level 2 - 10 Marble, 5 Cut Stone, 3 Light Bulbs

        3. Level 3 - 10 Moon Rocks, 5 Rope, 5 Carpeted Flooring

      2. Plant 10 flowers on her island

      3. Dry 6 food simultaneously on her island

      4. Fertilize 8 berry bushes

      5. Remove all underwater salvageable around her island

      6. Kill a meat bulb on the island (it spawns at the beginning of spring)

      7. Give her an umbrella when its raining (spring)

      8. Give her a puffy vest, dapper vest, breezy vest, OR rain coat when it’s snowing

      9. Give her a flower salad

      10. Other options involve deep sea fishing that I don’t really want to do

  2. Crab King

    1. Need to find him

    2. Need to set up the battlefield, mine out rocks around him.

    3. Need several boats to create a circular platform around him

    4. Need lots of boat patches

    5. Need 10-ish purple gems to socket into crab king (this combo is the easiest crab king fight)

    6. Need pearl’s pearl to start the battle

    7. Need to make sure to have a pinchin’ winch available for after the kill to get the inactive celestial tribute from under water

  3. Mooncaller’s Staff

    1. Need to make ~3 star caller’s staves (1 to replace my nearly empty staff, and two for moon caller’s staves)

    2. Find the moon pedestal (next to Oasis)

    3. Build a circle of ~16 rock statues around the pedestal

    4. During a full moon, place a star caller’s staff in the pedestal. It’ll start charging. Werepigs and hounds will attempt to stop it but are blocked by the rock statues.

    5. At day, the staff will be created.

  4. Atrium/Archives

    1. Located in the caves through the moon mushroom biome.

    2. Main goal is to restore the blue fountain of knowledge to get the Astral Detector

      1. Might as well restore the yellow and red ones as well

        1. Yellow gets us the terra firma tamper which lets us craft more turfs

    3. We’ll need an iridescent Gem. Can deconstruct a moon caller’s staff for this with the deconstruction staff.

    4. Navigating the ancient archive is made easier if you hug the walls to avoid triggering ancient guard posts and spawning Sentrypedes.

    5. We need to locate the Archive Switch and plug in the iridescent gem to activate it. This activates the Fountains of Knowledge.

    6. Locate blue fountain of knowledge and get a “Distilled Knowledge” from it

    7. Locate the Archive Orchestrina, place the distilled knowledge in the center and solve the puzzle (it’s a memory puzzle where you have to activate all the nodes in a certain order and getting it wrong means restarting)

    8. Once done, we’ll get the Astral Detector blueprint. I recommend we do this twice so we both have the blueprint. I felt bad being the only one with the bundling wrap blue print.

    9. Let’s get the distilled knowledge from the yellow fountain while we’re here and unlock it for the terra firma tamper.

  5. Celestial Sanctum Piece Hunting

    1. Need astral detectors (1 moon rock, 1 thulecite)

    2. Place on ground and it will give the direction to the nearest buried celestial sanctum piece

    3. Need to find both pieces. There’s not much more to it

    4. Note: astral detectors have 10 uses. After 9 uses you can hammer it to get 100% of resources back and re-craft it again

    5. Note: astral detectors generate light. Can be used to provide light in base

  6. Moonstorms / Mysterious Energy / Lunar Siphonator

    1. Hold onto your ass this is a long one. End result is being able to spawn the celestial champion.

    2. First, need to bring the celestial sanctum pieces and the celestial tribute to the lunar island. There’s a spot on the lunar island with 3 celestial fissure forming a triangle. Need to set up the celestial altar, celestial sanctum, and celestial tribute on these fissures. This spawns the Mysterious energy.

    3. After spawning the mysterious energy, the entire world will be in 24/7 full moon cycle and sanity will be replaced by enlightenment. We’ll need bone helms to make life easier here.

    4. Moonstorms will appear on the map. That’s the place to be! Annoying part is they can spawn on our base.

    5. Head to the moonstorms. They work like the sandstorms in the Oasis in that we can’t see without special Astroggles.

    6. First time we enter the moonstorm some dork named Wagstaff will greet us and give us a blueprint for Astroggles. Need to make two. He’ll also give us a blueprint for the incomplete experiment which is ultimately what we’ll need to finish to spawn celestial champion. Completing the incomplete experiment gives us a Lunar Siphonator.

    7. With astroggles, we can now assist Wagstaff in his experiments. We’ll have to help him out 3 times because we’ll need 3 restrained statics from him.

    8. Total supplies to finish the Lunar Siphonator

      1. 3 Restrained Static - help Wagstaff complete experiments

      2. 15 Moongleams - catch them in the moonstorms with bug nets

      3. 30 Infused Shards - mine them from special rocks in the moonstorm

      4. 2 doodads - gold + rocks

      5. Celestial Orb - we have it already

    9. Wagstaff’s experiments seem annoying. You have to guard his weird machine from Moon Crows and Weird Birds that land and try to attack it. If it takes 100 damage you have to restart. During this, weird tools will spawn around him and he’ll ask you for the correct one. It’s essentially a guessing game. Its gonna be chaotic.

  7. Celestial Champion

    1. Assemble the Lunar Siphonator on top of the mysterious energy to begin the battle

    2. He has 3 phases

      1. Phase 1 - rolls around at players. Need to always be running perpendicular to him. Getting hit sucks hard. After taking 2000 damage, he’ll spawn gestalts

      2. Phase 2 - he spins around and follows players. You want to wait until after he starts his spin attack and moves towards you before equipping walking cane because he matches whatever speed you move at at the time his attack begins. He also can spawn moonglass spikes that act similar to antlion’s sand spikes

      3. Phase 3

        1. The bitch can now fly and it will run from us. It shoots lasers at us in concentric circles or in wi-fi patterns or in straight lines. It will also plunge into the ground and spawn a crap ton of gestalts that don’t go away for 30 seconds

    3. After we beat him we get the enlightened crown which is a constant light source that doesn’t need fuel.

    4. After we beat him, the current day’s clock is replaced by night and it set’s the moon phase to new moon. This resets when we get new moons and full moons. Won’t always be on 11/21/31/etc

    5. We need to get good at murdering this dude because deconstructing the enlightened crown gives us enlightened shards and putting these in the glowcap lights from toadstool is an infinite source of light that doesn’t need fuel.

    6. Possible cheese: Use telelocator focus and telelocator staff to teleport Klaus to him. Klaus can defeat celestial champion. May try that for subsequent fights? Never used the telelocator equipment

For me, this us massive and takes up like 12 pages.

i haven't seen most anyone figure out anything in this game without a guide because the nature of playing a game since 2015 and being in a community full of people who have been playing forever is that i don't often (or at all, actually) see someone's first several hundred hours of gameplay
