chirsg
Does klei hate shipwrecked? I started off as a single player enjoyer and I played pre Reign of Giants and was playing shipwrecked in it's infancy. It actually captures a feeling of being on a tropical paradise/hell at it's best and worst respectively. The survival aspect is so different and even with the boats functioning more similar to walking, it simply makes sense for it to function the way it does and there is still an element of danger unique to being on a boat that sets itself apart from walking on land. Unless there are copyright issues with using shipwrecked assets and mechanics, I think the sea should really resemble shipwrecked more. Even if there are offshoots that differ, tons of assets in shipwrecked can really make it seem like home. The moon quay would really feel a lot more alive if you introduced coconut trees and even vines and bamboo. Swordfish if redesigned for DST would work and when it comes to crocodogs and seahounds, I'll admit there'd be a clash in art, but at the same time, loot tables from those mobs would really be great for rockjaws. Especially a shark fin drop so one can make sharkfin soup and have it function to raise naughtiness. I'm really impressed by how well Island adventures captures the spirit of shipwrecked and by the very virtue of being in DST, it's an improvement in almost every way. I don't know how much of a hand @zarklord_kleihas in the mod, but is credited in it, so I just wanted to say you did a really good job, as well as all the other mod authors. If there is a way to make the sea more stormy and thunderous rather than snowy and just straight out buffing sailing to make it more smooth, like perhaps adding the Iron Wind or a proper engine to the cookie boat would go a long way as well as new islands. The ocean between DST and SW are night and day. I have been a DST ocean enjoyer, but seastacks being as plentiful as they are and simply an abundance of sea and nothing more is something that makes sailing a necessity than something that is a task to REALLY look forward to. If anyone else wants to add anything, I'm happy to talk. Even if it's complete criticization or personal attack against me. I welcome it. Maxil20
Capy Moment SW to this day is still one of my favorite DLCs in any game ever, and I'm happy IA did it justice. It is by far the vision of how I would see SW in DST, and I love it a lot! If you have a dedicated server, you can even have the seaworthy work between the mod and the base game worlds! I also like the little touches they do here and there to "merge" content better with DST's progression (EX: they allowed the brightshade smasher to break obsidian boulders/dragoon dens, which I thought was neat). I feel like the assistance of Capy helped a lot with a lot of the reasons I like SW so much. Don't get me wrong, I do think the Klei devs have lots of great merits (the repair kits/pillars, for instance, are awesome QOL additions) but I do feel SW wouldn't be as special if Capy didn't help with it. As for how I feel about the idea of the DST ocean taking inspriation from SW, I'm not sure how I would feel too much about it. I would love to see things like little islands scattered around the ocean, but it seems like they want to reserve that for special content like the moon quay/pearl/lunar islands. They do seem keen on adding more content to the oceans at least, so I don't think it should be too much concern in the future. I think what really helped them was saving a lot of time on a majority of the assets by simply reskinning them. There's very few unique items in Shipwrecked. You have the luxury fan palette swap, you have the dumbrella which is the same, you have 2 variants of a spear, etc. Most of the item concepts and balances were made by Klei, and in Shipwrecked they just kind of adjusted where and when you end up finding them. There's some unique items like the magic conch and sharkfin telescope and volcano staff but you gotta remember Shipwrecked was already built on top of a completed game so naturally they'd have it easier. MondayNight
It boggles my mind DST ocean still is to this day over 90% "rock turds" and nothing else. I always thought those ugly boulders were supposed to be placeholders for various formations, entities and whatnot. Sure, some of them "turds" here&there, in small clusters, would make some sense - but noting of the current volume. Waterlogged Biomes were a good addition, yet too little. There should be at least some micro biomes, like floating algae biomass or something, with their own bons and cons (perhaps some mobs, some resources, etc). Not to mention the missing seasonal weather to "breathe life" into the sea - something a dev expressed intention of doing long time ago, however it remained just that - an intention. I believe DST ocean's conceptual purpose, or rather theme is "desolation" atm. But maybe it should be more of "mutation": the "Moon"'s plant-animal hybrids, lore-wise. SW, and by extension named Island Adventure, is an interesting take on DS universe, but maybe too "tropical" for Constant's implied temperate climate. Still, KLei could take a proverbial page or 2 from aforementioned DLC/mod and amp up DST's seas more in future, hopefully. Mike23Ua
In a fictional game world where Icey biomes are side by side with flaming lava filled ones- I don’t think DSTs “Climate” should ever be a reason why Shipwrecked shouldn’t be in DST.
