Do you get kicked? Are they just goofing off? Etc, etc. I want to know what you all see atleast most of the time when joining non-dedicated servers/klei servers so I can know what to expect before trying it out. Also, if you make hosted worlds that are public, please add a description i beg of you, it drives me insane lmao. I need to know what's going on!! Sometimes they happen to explain thenselves (like theyre waiting for a specific party) which, while i am a bit miffed on not making it private, i understand Sometimes its not for any particular reason (Or a reason out of my control, such as not using a mic even tho its not stated) Honestly, dont let it get to you. Just hovers around like some weird stalker... altho sometimes you get the rare "pro mute", dont hear or see them but they turn up in base after 5days with **** tons of loot. They get a pass. Ive kicked people who all they do is talk, like yeah i know you want to make friends but you are literally starving to death in the base doing nothing to help us out.. please dont be that guy. Help out an be pro active on the server, atleast follow me around and help me kill stuff. When the whole team is fighting a boss or in the ruins, i sometimes kick new spawns as the base is left unprotected from griefers for a long time. By the time we are back at base like 3-4 days could have passed and the base could be destroyed. I generally check steam profiles of new spawns... got a vac ban? Ban hammer! Got loads of random profile complaints, ban hammer. Private profile? You guessed it, ban hammer! As for you checking profile complaints of others. Well i think i found your Steam profile (same pfp and name and owns DST) and you do have a lot of profile complaints there ranging from being a rude player to even griefing and hacking. Even if these might or not might be valid you ban people for having similar profile complaints.. So really there is no way to sugarcoat it is there? But since you jumped straigh to calling me immature and playing victim i'll just blacklist you both here and on steam and not respond to you any further. Hey your server your rules you can be as rude or as "heavy handed" as you want but i can still acknowledge that this is not being very courteous to others and playing with such "demianding and controlling" player will not be a very fun experience. But do you really consider banning people for profile complaints by person who is also having such profile complaints on their profile ... fair? And what's with banning private/friends only profiles? In general will help if you salute host/players on server upon logging in (showing courtesy/friendliness), ask if owner needs a certain character/has nominal requirements and at least try to be self-sufficient for a couple of days after first popping into the world (gather resources, make & use a Science Machine for personal prototyping and the like). Also probably cardinal rule would be to never ask "Where base?" - especially right out of Gate, not even jokingly if not wanting to be kicked/banned; you'll find it anyway while exploring. Endeavoring yourself with what you would desire others to do for you and extrapolating it for server's host is a good strategy. On the whole be helpful, polite and not "the needy one" in pub. Don't misunderstand though if it's a public server I don't mind. It's more or less expected there will be chaos and efforts will go down the drain eventually. Anyone can write a fake "complaint" comment out of spite (cause idk for example you beaten them in pvp and they got mad) and it happens commonly so you never know if the complaints are legit or not. Not saying your wrong but again it's still a reasonable choice I personally don't go out of my way to check players profiles and I also have mine set to private but I've found some really messed up stuff on some griefers profiles that were clear red flags after the fact as I rarely do check peoples profiles mostly out of disinterest. I'm not saying people should go out and do a profile hunt but it's also not wrong to kick or ban someone if your someone who feels uncomfortable with what they find on the visitor's profile. Yes it can be done with a malicious mindset but the process of doing that isn't inherently malicious is what I'm saying. As a direct result in that: Every server you can join is hosted by another player (or yourself if you host your own) However: Each of those Servers will have their own toggles on world Gen settings altered most the time so it’s a random gamble what your actually joining into.. To make matters worse: a large amount of Xbox players do not know how to password lock their rooms that they only want certain players to join, so you join them and get kicked instantaneously. Getting Kicked with no reason is just part of the Xbox experience, sometimes you get kicked for not having a Headset, sometimes you get kicked for dying, sometimes you get kicked because they want you to use your character perks to do a specific thing (this use to be harassing Wicker Players to Overcharge WX78) Sometimes you get kicked for not picking a very specific character they want you to join in as, & ALOT of Times they kick you just for picking Willow. At around the 7000 day mark, I kept the world public, but new players couldn't be trusted not to burn things as I have experienced new players spawning in and burning things. I don't particularly want my world to be a mega base world and I want it to still remain as wild as it would be if you spawned in on day 1 for most biomes, and just expand on setpieces, so I like to do tours of my world when I had it public. Because I want my world to remain as wild as possible, I have a rule that no boulders or marble statues can be mined, and recently redacted, no grass tufts, saplings or berry bushes could be dug up either, but it's still an offense that warrants bans on my end. When my world is public, I have an immigration zone and take away new player's access to a means to making a hammer, thus, trapping them in spawn unless they state their business. Which is displayed below I'd love to be more trusting of other players, but I've been burned before. Literally. In game of course. When logging into the game, I'm inconsistent in the sense that sometimes I will initiate conversation with a new player or let them doing it, doing the latter before the patch that allowed guests to see chat history which is a godsend. Some players take a while to load into my world and I used to ban players for not responding to my greetings, but a lot of players probably didn't know I had reached out in the first place. But I will ban players for staying quiet and not following instructions. Because of the nature of how I want the world, I won't let new players roam about as they want, but at the same time, I no longer trust new players to be on my world anymore and it's now private. Perhaps in the future, I'll open up the world to the public to do tours. It's a bit sad that after day 20,000, my world will break. I'm already half way there. But yes, I will ban players for mining rocks and staying suspiciously quiet on my world and will vet players by meeting them out of my long term world. Happens often on PC too. I often start a world, intending to play alone, but forget to set it to local and 1 player. I've only kicked one person for being an ass. I told them that if they killed me one more time they were getting banned. They did, within a few seconds. I kicked them and banned/blocked them. Unless you're on the server for at least a few minutes and have some interaction with the host user, don't take it personally. You might search for Don't Starve Together Etiquette.
