Do DS characters still have a chance to appear in Together?

I still feel like Walani could fill a neat role as an agile ocean person, given reworks to make her work with the newer ocean mechanics. Updated movement with steering drift and the like, interacting properly with mobs that attack boats directly... Maybe some other stuff.

An old suggestion is to let her place a sail on her surfboard, turning it into sailboard. Which would mean in addition to her own surfboard, having different sails exclusive to her to craft.

Another old suggestion is somehow leaning into how she is a former pirate. Which based on the existing benefits of the moon quay hats, would be reduced durability loss for boats and performing boat-related actions quicker.

I have my own vision for a Walani Rework- in the Shipwrecked announcement Trailer when we first sea Walani she is sitting on her Surfboard Fishing, I want this to be an Actual THING in Game.. it would allow her to be the best character with fastest access to any content needing to catch fish.. such as Brine Shoals, or Spittlefish give her something similar to a Seafishing Rod she spawns with that has infinite durability and she just went from being just a chick with a Surfboard, to the best fisher in the game and would appropriately fit her Introduction animation.

Some other items I would give her is something similar to Walters Portable Tent, But this would be a little lounging hammock tied up between two small palm trees, Re-Deployable but runs out of Durability needing to be Re-crafted. Can even use Shell Bell Shells, and Palmcone Scales in the craft.

Id also give her a 4 slot Ice Box, Similar to Insulated Pack, or Wilson’s beard food stash, just a thing capable of storing and preserving food freshness (since she will be out at sea fishing)

Honestly Walani doesn’t even need a ton of crazy changes done to her to be a simple & fun refresh.

Regardless of how well one feels certain characters do or do not fit into DST, these kind of topics are always mildly amusing to me because they show Klei that there is a Clear Demand in players wanting the rest of the cast as playables in DST. 1.3K views of this thread doesn’t lie.. & while I was Off on my prediction of them being added to DST for DS’s 10 Year Anniversary, I wouldn’t rule the possibility out until Klei flat out says they’re never happening.. besides, there’s still a DST 10 year anniversary that’s gotta happen someday right? ;)

Clear demand by thread viewing? I'm sure a lot of people are interested but I for one would very much prefer new content to the game rather than putting time into new characters. We already have a large enough roster, I'd much rather time be dedicated into new things for players to explore rather than character ports from DS.

Problem with Walani is that grass boats and Walter have kinda moved in on her niche.

The surfboards main perk was that it allowed you to skip crafting a boat in the early game while also providing some speed boost and sanity regen for riding waves.

If Walani were added her surfboard already is redundant with the cheap and fast to make grass boat and with the absence of waves to ride she also loses the sanity regen and speed boost all while giving up the ability to build structures.

I guess you could give her a sanity regen while on her surfboard but it doesnt seem to make it interesting enough on its own.

Walani is also known as "The Imperturbable " - meaning she is calm, doesnt show much reaction, laidback, chill, etc.. And again this personality already somewhat exists in Walter "The Fearless" so any interesting perks related to this attitude are already explored with him leaving Walani with very little to work with in terms of ideas.

I guess fishing could be a route to take Walani and the idea of allowing her to spearfish with a spear would be kinda cool, but I dont think this and her neutered surfboard alone would be enough to make her an interesting character.

And Overall, I'm not sure making Walani the fishing character would be true to her as "The Imperturbable", might as well make a new fisherman character entirely instead of trying to shoehorn her into this role.

I don't know why people say Wilba is a follower character. She cannot do anything to gain followers that another character can't do just as easily.

Wilba is not a follower character. That was strong and obvious niche for her before Wurt have appeared. But I think there is still some ideas for her. When Wurt is a commander Wilba could be something like "engineer" turning pigs into workers.

Most of people would love to see them.

Even if this is true that doesn’t really waver the main problem with adding ds characters

a good few have their niche already filled/ don’t fit into dst/ or would take more work to add than it’s worth. I would like a character that was made for dst and designed for dst, or just new content in general instead of porting old content.

I think it would be cool to see some closure on what happened to them, even if they don't become playable characters. When the Gorge was live (pre Warly), I thought it would be cool if one of the merm villagers walking around would have a goatee and a blue vest to show what happened to Warly. Luckily I got something even better, but its a good example for what I think would be cool to see.

Maybe have a small chance for a skeleton boon to spawn on an island that has an oar and an anchor kit, with a skeleton that looks visually like Woodlegs (with no additional resources when hammered), or even a small chance for a guardian pig to say something like "FOR WILBA!" just to show that she is still around

While this is a really really good idea, I would prefer that the characters become playable within DST someday, and I have a legitimately good reason as to WHY I would want them. DST is suppose to be a DLC Expansion to the Original DS game, and even though it’s Stand Alone.. it’s still Technically suppose to be a DLC. Just like the other 3 DLC Expansions which- Share Compatibility with One Another.

I own DS, RoG, SW, HAM & DST, and from owning those I have access to RoG, SW, HAM characters playable in any of the DLCs or Base Game outside of the DLC they originate from with the Sole Exception being DST because it’s sold as a Stand Alone Product.

Now do Note that I am NOT Asking for the remaining DLC Characters to be added to DST for Free, I Am asking for them to be “Available” to select if you have bought their associated DLC Expansion Packs. Just like how they work in DS!

I would also love it if DST could have Shipwrecked or Hamlet themed world generation options if you own the associated DLCs.. & much like Minecraft- Only the HOST would need to own the paid DLC expansions but players who do not own them can still join their worlds.

I realize that porting SW & Hamlet compatibility over into DST would be a lot of work… However, I have quite a few legitimate reasoning’s behind wanting them.

#1- DS isn’t getting anymore content updates, DST still is.

#2- DS doesn’t have all the skins I’ve bought or earned from daily skin drops/Twitch to customize the looks of my characters, belongings & world structures, DST Does.

#3- Sure I can go back and play Solo DS to enjoy SW/Ham Content, but in doing so I take away from time I could be earning skin drops in DST, and more importantly.. Playing with my Friends!

#4- Klei already made a Smaller (PC Exclusive) compatible perk from owning the SW & Hamlet DLCs of getting free Skin/Wormwood in DST so they’ve already proven it’s possible (at least on PC)

#5- And if your on PC you can even Download mods for the associated SW/Hamlet worlds & characters to be playable within DST, something I (and I’m sure many others..) would love to see supported in an official capacity outside of PC Mods someday.

And Finally… #6- the Characters of DS,RoG,SW,Ham & DST are all equally trapped within the constant, or an Alternative realm of the constant, And hey look.. the newest set of updates have opened up all kinds of funky portal rifts spewing alternate realms out into the current one!

With these perfectly legitimate reasonings, I will continue to hold out hope that someday this happens until one of the Developers tells me flat out No it’s never gonna happen.

Me when I spread misinformation. A continuation =\= dlc. You said it yourself dst is STAND ALONE and I would like they focus more on new content

Okay then… Explain This-

DC2A3F79-E850-4631-8F5C-6819F18540BE.gif.b05fff49a3b1973b8810d983800fb810.gif

Now MAYBE I can give Klei the Benefit of the Doubt & just say that having Top Add-Ons for their Game was a Requirement for putting DST on the Xbox Events App. But if that was indeed the case…. Why didn’t they just show actual DLC purchases that are Part of DST rather than Misleading people with add-ons for a game that isn’t even Compatible with it?

DLC such as the Bundles of Cloth- like Apex Legends Apex Tokens:

Instead it very specifically shows Hamlet & Shipwrecked which aren’t even playable with DST and require purchasing an entirely different game (some of the reviews for Hamlet & Shipwrecked even have low ratings due to this Misleading..)

So one of two things happened:

1- Whoever was in charge of this page intentionally or accidentally mislead costumers.. or-

(I hope…)

2- these add ons are shown as part of DST because SOMEDAY they WILL be Compatible with DST.

I admit it, I'd still like to see Warbucks revisited one day.

I know it will never happen in a million years, but I still think it's a character that COULD be interesting if they give him a better niche (the way he has in the "Hamlet Characters" mod) and maybe trimmed off some of the... "problematic" aspects of his dialogue lines. I definitely don't think the character as a whole is a non-starter; just  the way he was originally implemented that didn't really work.

Or the most plausible explanation. It’s an accident or some other reason. If this was evidence for why they’d be added we would’ve known ages ago. I think you need to lower your expectations for stuff like this because

- if it’s never added and your expectations were never broken so you’re never disappointed

-if it is added and now you’re even more hype because it’s much above your expectations

Convincing yourself on this unlikely event which will most likely never happen will do nothing but make you have continued disappointment when it still isn’t added.

We already have too many characters with overlapping purposes, the only character that I wanted from DS into DST was wagstaff before he became an NPC.

I would also much rather original content in DST than more recycled stuff, as long as the original content is good (please improve the pirate raids experience)

I'd love something like this ngl, it'd be original to DST and would somewhat tie loose ends with characters from DS.

To play devils advocate for just a moment, but Wagstaff is currently overlapping with Wurt. As Wurt has the trait to see tentacles, which was originally a trait of Wagstaff. So it would beg the question why have a second character in DST, Wagstaff, who can have a trait that serves the exact same purpose?

Obviously the reason is for variety and to cater to an audience that would like to play the game, but don't really have a character that just clicks with them that they can currently play in that game. After all, with the discussion about overlapping, you would think we are talking about some competitive pvp game that has a fairly unique roster of characters and of that roster there is those that share similar traits with others, and that what perks they offer are just remix with what already existed with maybe one or two new unique gimmicks.

You want Wagstaff, but you don't want recycled content? Technically wanting a port-over of Wagstaff is wanting recycled content that is part of DS but not DST. Which makes it seem very arbitrary and strange to not want other currently exclusive elements not found in DST. For example Wonkey is currently a recycling of Wilbur, with the only distinction being that you can't play as Wonkey at the very start and must get 10 trinkets to actually become Wonkey.

This part needs to change.. originally when the curse was treated as an actual curse it made sense, but now the curse is more of a silly forgettable thing.. and the result is it’s hard to unlock (& remain to be..) Wonkey.

Original= Even if you die you remain Wonkey & only way to De-Wonkey is give Monkey Queen Banana.

Reworked= Just Die, lose your trinkets, some other poor sucker can wander up on them and become Monkey.

Wonkey.. once unlocked for the first time by getting cursed should appear in the character selection screen as a hidden unlockable character.

He already shows up in your Curio Cabinet once unlocked, so he’s already there… Give him a skin to look like Wilbur with Wilbur’s instrument sound and Wilbur is technically in the game at point.

I suppose Winona could get a few crazy Wagstaff gadgets and a Wagstaff skin/Voice change…

Knocking out two characters with one choice.

But you get the idea.
