A theory on Wilson

Recommended Posts

Ok so although this theory doesn't have much supporting evidence... I still think it's worth sharing. I don't know how it would work timeline wise but whatever. So what if Wilson's house used to be Wagstaff's? Some reasons behind this:

1. Wagstaff, being the mysterious inventor he is, would want to live away from society so he wouldn't reveal his secrets.

2. Perhaps Wilson found the phonograph in storage or in the basement when he first moved in or something and just thought he might as well keep it.

If you have any more ideas on this or think that it's just plain stupid feel free to speak your mind...

That's what I was thinking. From a storytelling point of view, if they want to show what Wilson was like before he entered the house, then it must somehow be connected to other parts of DSLore, most likely wagstaff.
Or we'll get Wilson leaving college/arguing with his family and then choosing to stay away from the world. That would be great for Wilson's character.

I always thought they were related due to their hair style having similarities, I know that's really weak evidence but we can frame a story about Wagstaff being highly disappointed in his idiot son who couldn't match his brains, and a desperate Wilson trying to follow in his fathers footsteps and ultimately failing.

I've always viewed Wagstaff as a foil to Wilson, since he's an actual scientist who knows what they're doing. Looking similar just enhanced that for me. I'd love to see some connections between the two.
Wilson's one of my favorite characters, and there's a ton of different avenues they could go down for the animation, so I'm excited to see where it goes.

My personal guess is that it'll involve someone finding Wilson's house after he's been taken into the Constant, given that his passive aggressive signs aren't there anymore, but that might not actually mean anything.

If we get more Wagstaff lore I'm dandy.

Definitely getting Wagstaff being Wilson from the future vibes. Like Wilson is Wagstaff before he lets mad science overtake him.

Not sure how i feel about it, but i can see it.

God, I hope they don't go in this direction. It's such a cheap trope that almost never works.

I’ve heard this theory before, and god I’m hoping it’s not true. When Wilson put on goggles for a second in the animation, I genuinely got worried that was where they were going with it lmao. Worth keeping in mind though: they have different noses

Wilson being Wagstaff theory also doesn't hold up with WX. It was shown that WX worked with a young Wagstaff with black hair. Even back then Wagstaff had glasses.

The last memory of Wagstaff WX had was when he was young. WX clearly remembers Wagstaff on sight even after old age got to the scientist

Personally for me I don't really like the theory where Wagstaff is Wilson that much, but I could see it happening. I feel like the hair similarity was just the devs telling us he related to Wilson in the fact that Wagstaff is a scientist but a better one. Anyways I can definitely see this theory being true, but I don't really support it much...

Given everything, I think this is the best outcome. We have a lot established about these characters—including full names for both!—and it would actively detract from the story to make them the same character. It would be funny if they were related, but only in concept.

Another thing I wonder is if Wagstaff purposefully left those papers out for Wilson to see. Probably not but then again...

I have a feeling he might be bringing it to study its its magical properties, specifically its inter-world ones. That being said he didn't seem all too fussed when Wilson lagged behind to look at them.
