Skins for mobs?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if anyone has asked this already, but I really wonder if it is technologically impossible to add mob skins to the game?

I'm asking bc I really think Wurt is such a fun character and I would love to play her but the look of all merms terrifies me a little and therefore would make the Wurt playing experience not enjoyable for me.

Just an idea here. I do understand if it's simply too much work and complexities.

It shouldn't be that difficult, given that there are already mobs whose appearance changes depending on certain factors, as well as many types of mobs based on a one shared model. The difficulty in comparison with regular skins will be in a large number of animations that need to be worked out, but this is about the same work that any new mob or skins for players characters require, so... It actually would be interesting if the appearance of pigs, bunnymen and merms changed depending on the skin of their house.

I mean, there're skins for chester and glommer, so it seems possible.

Unlikely, because chester and Glommer are single entities, but things like Pigmen & Merms are mobs with a group mentality. And can you imagine how that would even work in multiplayer?!

Player 1 wants Merms to look like normal Merms, player 2 wants them to look like Fairy Fantasy pixies, player 3 wants goatified Merms cause why not…

How would the game handle that?

The only thing that “MIGHT” be possible is if reskinning their “spawn point” (pig house, spider nest, Mermshack, etc..) and THEN depending on what their shack looks like would determine what they look like when they spawn from it.

(Aka the Gothic Pigman house could see them wearing “Funeral” clothing or something.. Meanwhile the Canadian Pig house skin could see them sport little sweaters with the Canadian leaf logo on them)

Wihich actually sounds quite awesome cause I have a rabbit hutch that looks like a decorated Christmas tree, would be “cute” if the Bunnymen that spawn from it was wearing the ugly Christmas sweaters, and Santa hats.

No please

I don't think devs should lock variety behind a paywall.

I can understand stuff like turning chester into a sheep or whatever. But if instead of adding alternative sprites into the game, devs make skins for stuff like trees, bunnies, pigmen etc, I'm going to be very angry and disappointed

skins for mobs from spawners with skin would be cool like having pigs or bunnymen matching their houses but would feel weird to bring a clean sweeper everywere to change the skin of a mob that you wll kill few seconds after...

Rabbits change in winter to a different color.

Am I the only person that thinks tree guards should change their "skin" to disguise in the snow too? It is so ugly that all the trees have snow but tree guards dont.

I agree but if they walk around they "shake" of the show and after one day the snow comes back on.

The host should get first dibs and approve it.

No, there is no such issue. There hasn't been mob reskins except the chester/glommer companions because it would be ridiculous.

when does it stop? first it was skins for characters and player built things then it creeped into naturally generated objects such as wolfgang's boulder reskin! what's next? common mobs? crafting material items????? crockpot foods???????????

there comes a point where it gets ridiculous and klei is on the border of it with the boulder reskin.....

they already make insane amounts of money with the several hundred skins they already have instead it would be better to make minor alternative textures for things players see hundreds of during the game like bushes, grass, mobs, rocks, trees, ect. or they can just not do it, but no... no skins for that stuff for God's sake DST is becoming closer and closer to a gacha game every few updates and the worst part is it's probably not even Tencent which is making them do it
