Wilson rework thoughts

Originally I played Wilson because most characters didn't really add that much to the game anyway, but nowadays  I actually play Wilson because of how all the other characters change the gameplay so much it feels like a different game (which is a good thing, but it makes having a character that feels simple even more important to me).

Because of this I'm one of those that wishes for the rework to be nothing but a beard rug... But I know that Klei will probably have to do something "flashier" than that or people will be disappointed, so I ended up thinking of the following:

Make Wilson a simple support character, make his perks do NOTHING for him, but be amazing for everyone else. Something like being able to make "Experimental Treatments" that will buff other characters in some way, but that won't have any effect on Wilson (Imagine Warly's Spices, but they do nothing on Warly himself)

that way his gameplay its still the same basic Don't Starve experience, but now he would be a much bigger asset to a team

Also... Some way to keep the beard on a specific size and disabling the insulation so it can be cosmetic only would be nice.

Also making a Wilson reworl is dificult. Because he can't be a complex character. Wilson has the task to be a character whit no flaws or streng.

 

most characters already don't have flaws.

what situations would you rather Wilson instead of Wendy?

SCIENCE! And explosion fails as he is an armature and makes a LOT of failures, there'd be all sorts of odd Machinery he tries to make to make things more "productive" But adds in a lot of cool machinery as Maxwell gave him the knowledge to build a portal so why not him be somewhat able to make robotic helpers that eventually fall apart like a boat roader that's WAY much faster than the sails but harder to control if there's a lot of obstacles in the way or light bug robot that runs on lightbulbs and slowly circles around the player like the light bugs and gives off varying strength of light depending how much it has inside it.

i mean, i guess wilson making some sort of  thing to hold in his hand, that anyone can use, wich when examine while holding that thing, gives more information about the examined thing, or make wilson inspector gadget with all sorts of weird science things

i am not sure many people care  for the wording of it including me since i use either interchangeably.

 whatever it may be i am just interested in what the community thinks should be done

I'm assuming the difference is that a 'Refresh' is something like Wormwood's changes in RWYS, vs the 'Rework' which is something more drastic like Woody's update.

...Although in the Roadmap JoeW uses 'Refresh' to refer to both the major character updates we've already recieved this year AND whatever changes are going to happen to Wilson. So you could be right there.

Normally Wendy has a harder time going insane than most characters because of her decreased night drain as well, so it's normally not an issue.

She has the same stats otherwise, and although technically does deal 25% less to normal mobs and bosses, her sisters' damage buff makes her actually do 5% more damage than default damage modifier while attacking in tandem with her.

To answer OP seriously:

One thing I'd like to see is an ability to "do science" easier than others. He claims to be a scientist, but Wicker kind of has him beat at being more knowledgeable on the field from the get-go at everything science related, without even being her strongest character trait.

Perhaps Wilson can be the first character to have a portable science machine that he starts with, which can even be directly upgraded to an Alchemy. Learning recipes also gives him 50% higher sanity boosts than others, since unlocking the natural world's secrets means EVERYTHING to him, seeing as he was the catalyst to Maxwell's plot with his own meddling. If other people learn recipes at his portable machine, They gain 25% extra sanity from the learning and Wilson gains a portion of that as well. The man is just... obsessed with science. His enthusiasm could possibly rub off on his team and boost their morale!

An alternative idea: Wilson's beard could have special properties that help give it more dynamic reasons to keep besides just being a biological coat for warmth (which is still a neat concept and should be kept!)  Let's get crazy here: What if Wilson's beard grew sentient after exposure therapy to nightmare fuel? It could help him gather, act as storage (though would rot food faster as keeping food in your beard for later is just disgusting, don't do that in real life please) or even hold a weapon of its own to help him defend its host. Caring for your beard with special shampoo he could craft from various items would help bond to it and appease its' wrath, but neglecting the beard would have bad consequences too, like spawning lice that chip at Wilson's sanity.

Taking the crazy idea hat off, I'd like nothing more than to give Wilson a special razor that can trim Wilson's beard, and also some beard growth formula to help grow it faster (klei pls I like playing as bearded characters but Woodies beard is kinda sus, so I don't like his lol.) The beard growth formula could also be shared with a Webber as a synergy to get a bit of extra silk.
