sudoku Posted July 13, 2022 Share Posted July 13, 2022 Lots of cool stuff added. Shame the coolest thing i was most excited for was nerfed so that you dont see it 8/10 times. Its really that simple. The update is good, but i imagine people who are confused as to why people are upset is because they dont really place any value on the raids themselves or at least not as much as the other stuff that was added, which lets be real is the type of stuff that gets added all the time. Pirate raids were a unique new survival mechanic that has been butchered and fans who were excited that they were finally getting some new survival content - after literal years of waiting, are understandably a bit miffed that this type of content is so easily disposable to the community and also appararently to klei. If the cursed trinkets were stuck with you even after you die and revive, you'll have people complain: "oh it's so dumb that I have to sail to an island on the other side of the map to get rid of these stupid trinkets. Why is this so punishing? There has to be a better way to get rid of the trinkets." "So terrible! Every time I face pirate raid, I will also have to make a trip to the monkey island to free up an inventory slot. Bad game design!" If anyone joins a world and gets monkey bombed, they'll just leave and find a server where they don't have to play as wonkey. It's really not the end of the world. This would happen on public servers and no one is really attached to a particular server on day 1 anyways. Besides, there are few people who are willing to put in the effort to sail to monkey island -> kill 10 monkeys -> go back to the portal and kill themselves. 3. Last example - again it's a moderate annoyance for the person getting monkey bombed but 1. it's unlikely anyone would waste the effort to do this and 2. if it's easy for a troll to unload trinkets, it's just as easy for the person who was bombed to unload them You're really making a small issue into something way more than it actually is. I provided an example of several reasons why getting hit with these necklaces would suck, but allow me to provide another.. WX78 had a fun rework 24/7 infinite Moggles with no durability drain, you can practically LIVE in Caves.. err, that is until you run past a rock with your mighty night vision that had some trinkets hiding behind it and bam your Wonkey without your Night Vision. YOU might not find it much of a problem to just die and Respawn but to many players I could see this being as annoying as having stage 2 twins of terror randomly choose to spawn on them when they join into a world where someone else has activated the Terrarium. It just doesn’t make for a fun multiplayer experience, at least not in my opinion. I “Liked” the original method the curse was handled by just going to Monkey Queen give her a few Cooked Bananas from they very same bushes you can harvest or shovel up and take from her Island to your base, other players couldn’t just ruin your day with their trolling or playing the game poorly. Again you're correct that the challenge shouldn't come from other players, but the actions of other players absolutely affects your experience on the server. Ex. did someone hammer all the pig houses. Did someone kill all the beefalos/goats. Did someone dig up all the grass tufts, did someone activate the terrarium, did someone turn on the moonstorm, did someone eat all the food/use the resources you gathered, etc. You provide another good example. While you shouldn't have to do things out of your way to just play the game, perhaps this is a lesson to avoid going near suspicious failed survivors that just have a lantern or torch by their skeleton. It goes both ways too. WX with moggles will get killed if he gets monkey bombed, but he can also see much more than your average survivor (without moggles obviously). Other survivors can see less but it's not a death sentence. I understand your agitation that now you can have "annoying" players mess with your gameplay. But that's literally DST in a nutshell. The skilled players will do all the "right" things and achieve game progression. Meanwhile, other players on the server *may* hinder your progress in a wide variety of ways, but that's what makes DST more fun anyways. They could literally be given bat ai attacking pattern and they would be a way better than them coming as a ball of death. There is a reason why people don't just allow themselves to get swarmed even when fighting just a few spiders it's not fun or resource efficient.
