jp2k43 Posted July 4, 2022 Share Posted July 4, 2022 After navigating for a long time looking for the island of monkeys I was thinking "maybe we could get surfboards someday?" You know, they would be much more fragile than normal, but in compensation it would be much faster than a regular boat, it would be ideal for exploration. Maybe in a future update a kind of hut/shop would be added where the player could buy some surfboard or maybe even a blueprint to be able to manufacture it on their own. The coolest thing about it all is that the owner of the supposed surf shop would be nothing more than Walani herself who ended up in the togethernes of some metado. I know a lot of people want walani as a playable character, I do too, but since we don't know if klei will be additional someday, it would be nice if we at least had her as an interactive npc. Since we have a "Wilbur" now why not have a Walani too? I know it's kind of a mehh idea but I wanted to share it to see if it's a good or bad idea. Mike23Ua Posted July 4, 2022 Share Posted July 4, 2022 I’d rather have her as a playable survivor, I enjoy her inspection quotes and instrumental voice sounds. Wonkey feels like a Superior version of Wilbur.. but at the end of the day: I wasn’t a Wilbur main I just saw him as a funny playable Monkey, which is what Wonkey is. Walani however: is my 2nd most played as character in the franchise, I like her looks, she has superb outfit/skin potential, and now with the addition of Palm Trees and Beach sand and the games various skins- she would fit right on in.. Seashells, Shell Clusters, Sandy Turf, Palm Trees, eventually at some point you start to feel like it would be a crime to never get playable Walani.. As for the idea of a Surf Shop, Maybe Walani could have a structure to build Surfing Shacks where she stores boards for players to use? I mean with Grass Boat we pretty much have Surfboard anyway that requires rowing with a Oar.. Harrowick Posted July 4, 2022 Share Posted July 4, 2022 Walani does have some potential pirate backstory if I remember, so she could fit in. She could also receive a pretty big refresh, like Warly. Since apart from her surfboard all she does is dry off faster and starve faster, which is pretty bad. I still think she would make a great contrast to Winona's personality, which would be funny to see. BUT she would have to say goodbye to surfing because DST is in a horrible climate for it! The odds of Wonkey getting a Wilbur skin go up tremendously- and when the dev team says there’s not much difference between Wilbur & Wonkey I have to be inclined to believe them. To me that seems about Walani Surfboard speed- the difference would be lack of ocean waves to catch the speed boost off of. The real difference would be that unlike the grass boat, the surfboard could be picked back up and continuously redeployed- but other than that.. I’ve been using Grass Boats for exactly all the same purposes I would’ve used a surfboard for- Crossing small streams, gathering nearby items close to shore, having something quick to deploy that’s somewhat speedy.. but also weaker and more fragile. The chances of Walani being added to DST have gone up tremendously with this update- & chances of Wonkey getting a Wilbur skin is also a high possibility.
