[Suggestion] Monkeytails on water and Puffins on the Quay

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I should recalculate my suggestion priorities but these rushed across my head for a split second and got me like... wow would be pretty. So it's as simple as the title says : Let's have Monkeytails to also grow on water. This plant is typically based on our Cattails and these grow around wetlands and within their waters directly.

The idea was initially themed for decor purpose exclusively, to allow a bit more diverse greenery past the shoreline, but I suppose this could also bring a few features to their growing methods, which normally requires fertilizers but this condition could be skipped in this environment.

Here's how it could possibly look like :

Another thing is about birds that spawn on the island, you're not without knowing the type of birds to spawn in an area is based on the turf they'll spawn onto. The thing is 90% of the turfs of the game only spawn crows because there is no definition added to most turfs, but I suppose it is okay for most of them.

But I don't really like having crows on an island of the tropical sort, they don't seems like they fit the place, I feel it would make more sense to have puffins to spawn on the docks and on the beach turfs instead.

That's all for now, loving the beta so far and what all of us here look upon to improve it a bit more so I'm confident that will end up pretty great even in the small details.

Puffins should def spawn on docs, would fit thematically for any newly built structures too without adding a new tropical bird.

P.S. Is the Roseate sporkbill bird unimplemented in DST? I can't remember if that is accurate. If so, it'd be awesome to see that on Quay island, maybe spawning to the sand turf.

True, and yeah no classic bird have been added since the puffins, if not the mutated birds of the Moon Storm. I'd sure ask for more and more birds, they're the greatest thing for ambient and when you hear in certain biomes the beautiful audio you can only wonder what the birds in these places look like (I'm watching you, Waterlogged biome, or listening at least). Now I'm much more into the beauty of the animals than their loots but that would also be good excuses for different colours of feather sources than the Jet one always and always. :)

Also to anyone who doesn't know what the sporkbill was :

Your concept art for it looks really good. I haven't played the beta so that's the first I've seen of it and I didn't realize the water ones weren't real until reading the post.

Thanks but it's just a basic floater items have underneath, certain non items things have it too (like salt rocks) and it looks dope so adding it to this plant wouldn't be much of a big deal likely : D

there's a certain shore, but you are right, the monkeytails would have to be really tall.

It would be possible to configure at which levels of depths it can be planted only but I wouldn’t see the reason why anyone would plant them super far away so feels optional. That doesn’t seems any otherworldly when it’s planted by the shore, in pools within land or like the waterlogged forest / next to their trees anywhere, it’s fancy there. The exact deepness is hard to determine when you see anything that goes deep visually and then you compare with the gators ^^

I just think it doesn't make sense. It must be either super tall like seaweed in Minecraft, or floating like bull kelp.

Shallow ocean still has the depth of ocean. But if we can have a new biome, one that has shallow water stream turfs, which are wet like puddles or beach (with water waves), and can be walked on, then monkey tail can be planted on this kind of turf.

I'm just pointing out it "doesn't make sense". But it's just a game, it lot of things don't need to follow logic, like knobbly tree can grow in ocean regardless of depth. They don't make sense either.

It's actually not! The water around the main island is called shallow water, you can tell via the map or since they've got docks nearby which can only be planted in shallow water.
I really do like the suggestion and I don't think it'd be too out of place!

How shallow can ocean be? I quote myself, "Shallow ocean still has the depth of ocean", "But it's just a game, it lot of things don't need to follow logic, like knobbly tree can grow in ocean regardless of depth. They don't make sense either.
