More scavenging food

Recommended Posts

New here so I hope this is the right spot. I was curious on y'all opinion on if corn, pumpkins, potatoes, etc can be found naturally in the ground like carrots can. They could behave the same, popping up on the ground randomly when its spring. I thought it would be interesting if we could find pumpkin patches in the deciduous biome or corn in the savannah. They would function like natural carrots, not spoiling till picked.

Whats your opinion on something like this? Or are only natural carrots sufficient?

Already in the game. Just turn on Halloween Nights when creating the world. There are also several unique setpieces if you do so. And the potatoes grew by themselves in shipwreck. Not sure if they will look natural in DST tho.

Would be interesting to have fruits or vegetables popping out naturally during different seasons, maybe having carrots for autumn, nothing for winter (even if yes, vegetables can grow, I don't think it should be outside the garden), something like eggplants for spring and corn for summer. Maybe not put the super rare vegetables to keep them gardening exclusive but, the lowest tier of vegetables could be scavenged in the wild.

Just to add to this. Hallowed Nights is only for pumpkins. And they do not last forever, they immediately start to spoil.

I think some corn in the autumn, tomatoes in spring, and watermelon in the summer would be amazing!! Even if it's not a lot of them. :)

What? I havent seen a single pumpkin growing in that biome with Halloween event active.

Just pumpkin lanterns but not edible growing pumpkins.

No, ordinary pumpkins also appear. Especially in pig villages, in the form of circular formations like carrots or grass usually. But yeah, they are not very durable. That a pity.

corn could be ok

potatoes and pumpkins, not ok. these are rare and very strong foods on their own and are supposed to be gated behind farming.

True, I play with all the events active. However these pumpkins rot and can be eaten by mobs unlike natural carrots. Im asking for more foods that can grow naturally (and slower) just like carrots that can be found early and in spring.

Make it so when a bird leaves a seed it eventually a grows into a wild crop off screen.

This could cause some issues, I think gardening needs to still be superior by a large scale and having birds do some of the work is not a good idea. Interesting suggestion however.

I don't think there needs to be a bunch of really good food like pumpkins automatically growing without player investment.

It seems nifty on paper, though I see some obvious issues. Im a variety person, I just like the idea of biomes having specific natural plants that can grow in very low amounts when the ground is wet.

Uhm Potatoes rare? They are anything but rare. That's the crop that grows very commonly from random seeds. In whenever playthrough i make tatos and toma root are first crops that i'm getting when planting a patch of random seeds.

Gated behind farming = Yes

Rare = Heck no

These veggies cannot be found around the Constant buried in the ground like carrots can. The only way to get a hand on these resources is to have farm plots on your hands or ready to craft.

Sure, when Hallowed Nights is turned on, pumpkin patches are found in deciduous forests

I would think seeing random potatoes and tomatoes just lying on the ground in random areas would be kind of awkward in a way, carrots make more sense to take this place

I love the idea for early Warly playthroughs. Having access to more food variety early on could be nice also finding these veggies naturally could allow players who rush a birdcage to get their hands on specific crops for their first farms. Its a minority reason wise, but I also would enjoy biome specific crops is all Im saying.
