Copyafriend
Wanda helped wagstaff create wx. Winona is good with her hands but wanda is seemingly wagstaffs equal and literally WORKS WITH GEARS. loopuleasa
My take: Winona actually is the one that invented the circuits that WX benefits right now, which will probably be the first time we get an in-lore canon reason for a character rework Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/139541-im-gonna-call-it/#findComment-1562127 Share on other sites
HowlVoid
Idk, Wagstaff seemed to be working very close with Webber's father. Who else would you show a finding resulting from a life's work (a spider from the constant), but a trusted colleague? Webber's father also had lots of impressive tech. I don't think Webber's father helped build WX-78, he is an entomologist. Wagstaff most likely gave him the Constant Spider to study it. What causes creatures to feel emotion? The removal of the empathy module also removed the data on the person who worked on it, that's how I took it. Otherwise I think it's a character we haven't met yet. What about studying bugs lets you design circuits in such a way they provide empathy? Though it is far-fetched, it's true Wagstaff probably just took him the spider because he studies insect as someone else said. Which is why I added it's probably not someone we've met yet. Wanda's line of work would also have very little to do with empathy as well. As for what insect have to do with circuits is actually pretty simple. Insects are very simple creatures and when it comes to communication most of it is through neurological means. What are neurons but cells (circuits) that send electrical and chemical signals throughout ones anatomy? Their antenna "smell" the pheromones released by other insects and act accordingly. Similarly humans release pheromones through their sweat when experiencing fear as well as through other bodily fluids. Not saying that there is a lot of evidence to support that Wx-78 is designed after the way insects work (none really). Just a fun theory I thought up, maybe the reason why Wx-78 doesn't "feel" anything is because they have no way to process the pheromones released by the other survivors lol. I mean does it have to make perfect sense? Not much in the constant does. Also funny enough a lot of what they want in their relationship to the other survivors mirrors the inner hierarchys found in the insect world. Where they are the "king" and the the others are "slaves" (laborers), thought that might just be the lack of an empathy module speaking. Bro, him not having an “empathy module” is probably just a reference to him being outright mean in most of his descriptions of living organisms. nothing suggests its in any way connected to who the second inventor is, i was merely suggesting wanda because as a clockmaker she should be intimately familiar with the type of gear systems that would go into making an automaton (which is traditionally a spring based gear machine, though obviously wagstaff is more advanced than that) not to mention she clearly has some talent with shadow magic. All in all we have a talented magical clockmaker. Im not saying she made the blueprints, but wagstaff asking for her help with creating a gear assembly is well within the realm of possibility. But you’re right that its probably not someone we’ve met yet, only because none of wandas quotes imply she knows something about wx. But webbers father is an etymologist. He has nothing to do with inventing at all. Knowing how bugs work doesnt imply he knows how to create even the most simple of and/or switches. Let alone some sort of apparent AI capable of feeling empathy. The bug like thought thing is cool, but i think its just him likening himself to a king, and placing a sense of exaggerated self importance upon himself. Rafi.
Wanda doesn't know about lightbulbs, and the modern use of electricity that would be pretty far fetched to see her work with Wagstaff.
