Capybara007
i wonder if the "the lunar hound was too scary, we are never drawing that again" was just player invention or actually said by a dev. i agree with mike, i dont understand how more scary **** means less profit. reallychina
I wish the game kept the creepiness it had in singleplayer. Things got progressively more tame and pg13. All of the recent content is vanilla, maybe except lunar hounds and lunar pengulls. Overall the color palette of the game is changed, it's more bright and saturated/vibrant. The game was also new to a lot of people, so everything you did and faced was out of necessity for survival, especially since there were less resources you could rely on compared to now. Exactly, if you show images of the original Don't starve to someone they would not necessarily that it look scary or creepy but rather that it looks sad and unhopeful in a cartoonish way. A lot of what makes Don't starve scary was atmospheric, for example shipwrecked is the DLC that kinda looks happier and relaxing but as seasons pass the world gets dangerous and it gives a feeling of despair, it always remembers me to that one time my town flood during an hurricane. I mean even if Tencent bought out all the rights to the Dont starve franchise: they shouldn’t suddenly start trying to turn a T for teen game into a fantasy sandbox childrens game- just because doing such would be more popular. But that’s just my opinion… Klei likely has their own reasons why they do what they do. I like the older artstyle too but I imagine attracting more customers is more important. I know, but that still doesn't stop me from hating the CRAP out of Woodie's rework short. Not only does it have a _really_ strong example of "the new person on the art team doesn't seem to really, like, _get_ it" going on in its style, it's ALSO goofy as all get-out in tone. I can take one or the other--saturated colors, smoother lines, somewhat off character models, etc. but darkish, or funny but sketchy and desaturated. Hopefully what happened to another game I used to play won't ever _quite_ happen here--it was a fantasy-genre idle game, and the characters ORIGINALLY looked like reasonable D&D characters or something, with normal proportions, shading, etc. Then one day I logged in to find everything all CUTESY-WUTESY! and babyfied! and great big eyes and cartoony and chibi! It was SO off-putting, to someone who had seen these same characters as something that almost could've been on a Dragonlance novel cover just the previous day. I tried a bit, but in the end just couldn't play it. It looked so DUMB. (If you know anybody who watches superhero cartoons, six words: Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans: Go! Yeah. THAT kind of art difference.) If I'd never seen the other art, maybe I could've stayed, but as it was... So yes, I can name at least one case where the _aesthetics_ of a game did in fact make me stop playing. (Fortunately, that was a FREE game, so I lost nothing by deleting it from Steam.) Just...don't go full...THAT, Klei. And this is coming from somebody who didn't like the horror hounds _and_ DOES love the cuteness that came with the Year of the Catcoon. But I'm also a _bit_ of a gothy/spooky girl at heart; I love things like Tim Burton, Edward Gorey's cartoons and the Addams Family, overcast windy days in October and chilly grey nights. Let's keep at least a _bit_ of that in DST no matter what, okay? ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/138826-bring-back-more-creepiness/page/2/#findComment-1555169 Share on other sites
