Weapons and clothing are different. You can easily control the wear and tear of durability, but you don't pay attention to weapons and armor from time to time. Moreover, as a boss item, even if its attribute is low, it's too much to disappear

i wont like it because it will make the terraria bosses a 1 time fight boss like CK plus the items are already too good (really easy to refill them) needing to take care of them spice up things like in the ruins when you need to flee because you got stunlocked getting a lot of damange instead of going yolo

it fits the thematic of being a living thing you feed, if they get damaged they can die

they are infinity durability aslong as you take care

Yes but also no. A "warning " of sort before they break would be neat.

Let me explain:

When either of these items recieves a hit to durability that would otherwise break them they instead go to 0% durability and give you an audio or sort of hurt animation cue since these items are "alive".

At that stage they will do no dmg and not protect you from any damage and will break in a single hit at that stage if you don't feed them.

How does that sound?

well it sure would be helpful but it makes 0 sense

think about feeding someone alive and their hunger is idk like the durability of sot

so if you let someone starve to death which is same as sot durability reacing 0 no matter how much you feed a dead person they wont be coming back

so same thing applies to sot and eyemask after death you cant bring them back

literally me usin the item for the first time and sayin "ok i need to refuel it bef-" and instabroke it cuz messed up the kite pattern and got hit by 3 worms

Except you can easily bring back dead survivors in DST so not a good comparison..

And the 0% durability is more of a critical state than "death" death comes after getting hit at 0%

Think of it as the mask/shield is severely injured to the point their armor / attacks are ineffective and risking them getting insta killed.

Like breaking armor of a something exposing weak and vulnerable flesh to finish the job.

The % is the mask/shield's "natural armor" when it breaks (goes down to 0%) it's still alive but will get killed instantly if hit while "armorless".

and i think that is more exciting than letting it drop to 0% and will feel weird to wear it at 0% and but the item doing nothing and idk how much time will take to make it automatically unequip, to incovinient

isnt their hunger since the item doesnt drop % per time but how they get energy to restore theirselves

like how animals need to eat very well to fast recover from wounds or diseases

I'm against that

First because need of maintaining it's durability compensates how strong these items are.

Second this makes Eyes not 1 time kill and forgot bosses. You have to kill them again if you lost your helmet/shield and that's very cool

Look at them like at cool consumables, something like Royal Jelly. You have to eventually kill boss again and that's what makes it fun to play

I agree! But not in the way you would expect.

When the mask hits 0% durability every hit it should start eating whatever food is in the players inventory. If you got hit by deerclops which does 75 damage the mask will eat 75 worth of hunger. It also won't be a smart eater so it will consume a meaty stew even if there were berries for it to eat instead. Finally, if there wasn't enough food to satiate it's hunger, it starts eating the player effectively doubling all damage dealt to you.

'the way i see it'  is that you dont really revive the body and the ghost is inside a new vessel that has exactly same properties with the body you have when you join the game and it makes sense since for example wilson loses his beard or wx losing their upgrades when reborn

also if you die and revive at a touch stone you literally use absolutely nothing from your older dead body which would be 0% durabilty sheild of terror

reviving in dst is same thing as killing EoT all over again

why would you kill a couple of bosses that deal 250 damage per hit each for a couple of gears xD (unless is a cave-less server)

I enjoy the ruins, but a bit of variation doesn't hurt.

You can still get enough gears from surface clockworks though, lol.
