Question on Yaml files

Recommended Posts

So, just now really getting back into things with Spaced Out DLC.

Back in the pre-DLC days, I could easily change map sizes, add or remove biomes from the worldgen (example: I added forest biomes to the standard sandstone start world), etc. just by simple editing of the yaml files located at:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\OxygenNotIncluded\OxygenNotIncluded_Data\StreamingAssets\worldgen\worlds

I tried to do something similar (add a forest biome option to the sandstone start and reduce map size) for the "Classic" spaced out start.  [I didn't want to alter the small cluster maps yet].  But, none of the changes to the sandstonedefault.yaml seem to have any effect.  Map size didn't change, no forest biomes spawned, etc.

Is there a new trick to editing those yaml files or possibly are those yaml files not really the files used during spaced out (again classic start) generation?

first off when you change those settings, you need start a new game, those changes not affect already saved games

second is that they move the size to differed files, so you need make sure that you edit right ones.

third probaply is that you are not able start  game, at-least that what happened for me when i last time try change those, maybe it works now, dunno

StreamingAssets\worldgen\worlds those are the base game ones not the dlc ones

On a side note, it is worth noting that some changes, mainly additions, might not take effect because there is simply no space for those. Also the names are weird for some many so one might not edit the right one, I personally looked those up with dnSpy but for Classic-Style Cluster, one can just use those 10 which incidentally all start with 'Vanilla'.

After beginning to make my own handbook on which asteroid has what, with the help of those yaml files I modded far before Spaced Out, I noticed plenty of changes (which I have to play through first). Poi/Features/Geysers have priorities, only some are a chosen from a few (and I am not sure if they are guaranteed i.e 3 of 7 are certain), biomes/subworlds have scales and of course many content additions.

Heck, I have to look up like 10 different sun light and cosmic radiation levels, each. Properly pin-pointing new tag locations like 'Outer Edge' and 'Inner Edge' is also a slight concern of mine.

But anyway, I'll be simply playing normally for now. I should not have started on Big Rime though, my temperature management is awful and I should feel awful. I should not have started with like 10 volcanoes as well. Swamps are better, far better, when I tried it before finding out that there is no oil, I just placed deodorizers everywhere and sacrificed ore to the slug gods (to be frank, with the Chemical Processing mod, Ores ain't finite anymore but I think it's features should be standard).

Incidentally, I found out (just calculated x times y plus x times y plus...) the total space on Spaced out Classic is 176.160 tiles, Moonlet Clusters has 155.360 tiles, Spaced Out Clusters 140.448 tiles and One Classic Asteroid-only has 98.304 tiles. How much of that is Space, Magma Biome with 'Unobtanium' and 'Unobtanium' Edges? Beats me! I do know though that the teleporter facilities still spawn (on the home planet at least), even if one opts out, just the teleporters are removed, leading to pipes and rails leading to nowhere.
