Starvation and Research Notifications

Recommended Posts

I have 5 million calories in my main colony and still get starvation notifications every once in a while. I think this probably happens because of schedule, but I really don't want to add an extra rest slot just because of that. I'd say that if the colony has enough reachable calories for the dupe, this should never really pop up. It pops once in a while and lasts for 2-3 seconds, but for no real reason. It's annoying to get that red notification for no reason.

Similar for the research notifications. I'd actually prefer to completely turn those off, because they are totally useless anyway. But it's annoying that after I have complete all research, I still get those notifications. I don't really want to destroy the buildings for no reason :/

Just my 2 cents :)

You can silence the alert completely, I think.

Do you? Without a mod? I would gladly toggle more alerts or any if I could... I would turn off research, radiation and oxygen production notifications if there would be such option in a game. I am already using enough mods...

My dupes come back to base at end of shift, and storm the toilets. While peeing they get into starvation sometimes. If they start eating, and then oxygen runs out, the run away to catch breath, and start starving too. Its just how the system works.

I've seen it happen when a dupe consistently can't finish using the bathroom before night begins; rather than going to eat, they go directly to sleep, then don't try to eat again until either the next evening, or their calories drops below 1,000 (since they will try and eat up to 3,000, they usually need to miss eating at least two nights in a row before they get an alert).

The alert will flash until the duplicant's current task is to eat food; during working hours, that tends to mean it's only up for a moment, though if it happens while they're on their way to the bathroom, it can be longer (which is when I tend to notice it).

If I were to make a suggestion on how the behavior could be made to be less disruptive, I'd say create a gap between the duplicant prioritizing food because it's calories are low and when the alert is shown, so that there's a chance for the problem to solve itself before it becomes a "what was that alert?" notification blip.

It seems to happen mostly on harder difficulties. On regular dupes have enough time to do all they need before the warning kicks in. Sometimes setting downtime at the start of the cycle instead at the end helps as well as dupes aren`t forced to bed at the end of downtime.

Usually I separate crews into groups and change default time schedule. I tend to have dupes eating breakfast, not dinner. I believe breakfast is 'the most important meal of the day'. That makes me only get starvation alert on the asteroid with single crew because they have too many things to do and did not store food to storage before sleep.

About the food notification:

I honestly don't see a problem here. If your dupes have been skipping meals because of a tight schedule, long commutes, etc., and that happened a couple of days in a row, the starvation notification should pop up, even if it's only for a few seconds. It's there to tell you that somewhere down the line, there is a problem and it needs to be addressed. Your dupes should not be skipping meals multiple days in a row under normal circumstances. If you are aware of that and still can't be bothered rethinking how you manage the schedules, adding an extra downtime block, etc., unfortunately, it's on you:wilson_confused:

I don't think adding a 5s filter gate before notifications would solve the issue. There will be those for which it currently lasts 7-8 seconds and they will still have the notification pop up 2-3 seconds after the filter.

In any case, if it's not possible already, I think it would be great if any notification could be turned on/off manually.

@hthought Can we have screenshots of all the hamburgerers? Pleaze :-o

There must be a cheese polonaise steak festival every day in your base :confused::confused:

Sounds much ? :D It's not that much really. I happen to have more than 1200 hours in the game, so I know the ins and outs very well.

The way to hoard calories is to create a chlorine full room and freeze it using a cold box so that it's always -25 degrees or so. Then you use rails to transfer the food automatically there and you basically hoard millions of calories pretty easily :)

Yeah, I get that. I just don't really care to fix it and the notification is not helpful to me, it's only bothersome. That's the thing. The 5s filter is amazing to me. I'd really love that option.
