My submission for the Halloween event was denied, despite meeting all the criteria, and I'm not getting a response from Klei. EDIT: Klei responded!

You're not wrong though, I considered putting in a "just give me the item" option on the submission page. That could help clean things up a bit, but it might also discourage people from participating when they may have otherwise.

Well if the goal is to celebrate halloween as a community by having the composite of everyones submission together than i suppose this is the best compromise, i just thought that it must have been tedious/extra work for someone to have to manually sort through all of the submissions. I guess theres no way around it either way since it has to be checked for profanity/content anyway.

What i was getting at in my original post but presented rather clunkily, is i would actually love to see an original fanart/costume contest perhaps in addition to the regular community submission/celebration. That way everyone can still join in if they want and get rewards, but there would still be a high effort/original creation section to possibly vote on as a community. It would be a  similar process to when the community votes on new loading screens from the trailers. Perhaps that is beyond the scope of whats intended though.

Now I think, we would have much less "low quality" things, if there were no reward. Same psychology, as why Don't Starve don't have achievments. Imagine now doing third event without a "reward". Some people would riot, despite is supposed to be for fun thing.

I just remember how they added a completely useless item for PSN cause they wanted DS to have an achievement, and they created that item just to get that achievement

They don’t just create it, they also activate it a total of 750 times- you can actually DIE to many many things in the process of trying to activate the acomploshrine & be forced into starting over.

Achievements can be used as a way of getting the player to go somewhere and do something they otherwise WOULDN’T do-

Like performing a 400 hit combo in Batman Arkham Knight without any of your gadgets and without getting hit to spawn a hidden “Boss fight” that has nothing at all to do with the main campaign.

There are things in DST that absolutely REQUIRE you look them up on Wiki my very specific example: Having to throw a certain combination of items into a chest to get a Blue print just so you can craft your own tables & chairs.

Right THERE is where Klei could’ve provided an Achievement Unlocked hint:

“Learned the Secret Knowledge of crafting tables & chairs from the Ancients”

Throw this (list of ingredients here) into a special chest & see what happens.

So as you can clearly see- Achievements have a purpose, it’s how I learned you can actually TAME A Beefalo without looking that information up on Wiki after all ;) & NOW- I tame them ASAP because they’re just that darn good to have around.

They added it because they were required to have at least 1 achievement to be able to publish their game there!
Which is the reason its such an absurd achievement, it was made to mock a system they didn't agree with at the time!
It's also noted on the wiki page.
