Which Items could use some Love?

Log suits could cost 1 rope instead of 2, so the game would revolve less around pig skin

and make it so it takes 2 boards intead of 8 logs  that way you can have materials for 5 armors in 2 inventory spaces instead of 3

When I did a play of Wormwood I thought his tooth traps were godly for being able to kill Splemunkeys. Then I learned that they damage Wormwood himself without a bramble husk, and using constant health to build up an army of low durability traps when Wendy can just sic Abigail on them anyway is insulting. It's very easy to make tooth traps for wolves as well so opting instead for bramble traps is a foolish waste of resources. At that point what are they even good for?

Most character specific items are either intended to be cheaper than the original intended version or a huge upgrade. Wilson makes beard hair easily, Winona makes sewing kits stupid easily, Willows lighter is a reverse of this in that it's more expensive than a torch but it lasts far longer and can cook.

Bramble traps need something done to them.

Another item that needs a serious buff is the Nightmare light. You're telling me an end-game fireplace that uses nightmare fuel as fuel can still be snuffed out by the shadow hands? When the entire damn thing is based on the shadows themselves? Ridiculous!  The fire should either adapt to the season and make you hotter/colder depending on which is better, or it should increase its fuel efficiency, or it should be immune to shadow hands, one of those.

Fire Staff needs some more uses, such as instantly heating up a thermal stone/firepit without any fuel.

Salt, for how obnoxious it is to obtain, should have a slightly increased freshening effect or it should be able to be used on Crock Pot dishes for its normal rate.

fire staff, just give it a better use than gunpowder

it already deals arround 80 damage to bosses per use. is almost gunpowder damage

unless you mean having explosive uses

90% of the items listed are totally fine

i dont think klei should waste time buffing stuff because people refuse to use them rather than because is really needed

good examples are thermal measure and rain o meter. what happen to these items to be always in "improve items" topics when they work totally fine. Is because people use the damn combine status or because they dont understand how they work?

another one nap sack and fire staff. they both are fine. one is a pan flute with longer sleeping effect and a similar cost green gem wise and the fire staff is a range weapon that can deal up to 1600 damage to a boss from a safe distance and cheap cost

darts are bad because they are suppose to be the noob alternative to fire staff, pan flute or kiting

straw roll suffers the same, is a noob friendly item

belt of hunger? why is even in the list?

ice cube and floral t-shirt are great summer alternatives. sometimes i go throw summer with an ice cube or chill amulet (another item totally fine that people refuses to use in its current state)

Scalemail

you can get back the scale with green staffs

night light is really wacky rn
costeful to still havin the charlie's music box annoyin around

i really think chilled amulet is a bad item at all cuz are other so many better ways to chill down and this item doesnt even help to crowd crontrol with the frozen perk when the player got hit cuz the freeze never triggers
so bad for fighting, bad for weather

no one will use chilled to cool when  luxury fan is a thing and combos a lot with eyebrella or even floral shirt in the same slot
also endotermic fire or termal stones switch

Chilled amulet is fine imo. I happen to sometimes forget stuff on the surface when I'm in the caves and putting on a chilled amulet for a few seconds and taking it off instead of having it on 24/7 really helps. It's not an essential item by any means but it does it's job in being an immediate panic button for if you really need a quick cool-off. I've never used that whirly fan item so I'm not sure if that does the job but even in solo DS especially in Shipwrecked having a chilled amulet somewhere in your inventory at all times works out wonders for me. Luxury fan only has a few uses and is far more expensive to craft even if Moose/goose is easy, weather pains are a far more important item to build for so Luxury fans are more of a luxury item(hence the name).  I don't really think you should be seriously using luxury fans as your summer heat prevention tools. I'd rather throw up a few blue gems for that.

I don't quite understand Beefalos defense of the fire staff though, far as I know you have to let the burning timer fully go on between each cast for the full damage to apply. Spending 10 seconds to do 80 damage when you can just whack twice, or use 2 blow darts for 200 damage straight up without waiting for ten years is a serious difference that isn't made up for simply because the fire staff can be cast at a distance. But I think ranged weaponry is super overpowered in a game like this so I wouldn't want it's combat utility buffed at all, there's nothing wrong with it being a tool and giving it more tool-based uses would be nice, I'd like to be able to cast it on a fire pit for it to count as a single log.

pick one...

i would say yes to thermal stones if you are working in base or an area with fridge but that is the only scenario where they are better than chill amulet.

i suggest you to use it since seems like you didnt tried them enough if you are comparing them with chilling with endothermic fires...

also the floral shirt needs to ne wear all the time meanwhile the chill amulet only needs to be used few seconds before you can reequip you backpack or whatever (or floral shirt to stay cooler .) and keep your way

so, as i said in my previous post, most of these "buff that item" topics comes from not knowing how that items work..

200 IQ tip: you can do other stuff while the enemy is on fire like melee hits, blow darts or whatever you want.

i didnt say that the fire staff should be used as main source of damage lmao

Oh that's actually not a half bad idea.

I would say Healing Gloop for Webber, the AoE is really small if your spiders are constantly moving in a battle situation, and you have to stand still and use it like a Salve, so it's unpractical while in battle.

The thing requieres x2 Honey x2 Ash and x2 Slik, which is the same of the Nurse Spider Switcherdoodle, only difference being the ashes are replaced by Monster Meat. Nurse Spiders are a lot more useful since they don't take your time, heal 70 more and can be mass recruited to heal even more.

Only reason I can see using this is because you don't have the Nurse Spider Switcherdoodle, which to this point just use a regular spider army without healers and use the honey in something else like Honey Ham, Taffy or Healing Salves.

I don't really know what would make this item better, but maybe a cheaper recipe just using Healing Salves and Silk, or maintain the recipe but also heal other players near, and make it behave like a Wortox Soul (you heal dropping it) so it's faster.

As someone who has spent a ridiculous amount of time farming in dst, I don’t think the waterfowl can needs a buff. It’s only a convenience, yeah, but a really good one, especially if your base is super far away from any ponds or you’re trying to grow crops in winter. There’s no point in giving it range or letting it target creatures, either.

How about letting it refill with salt water (and desalinate it) as it was suggested before? It’s a boss item I think it can do better than what it does.

It's better than the eyebrella

How? Honest question, I’ve only used the floral shirt like once, and didn’t notice anything particularly good, but I may re consider trying it out. My usual go to when I don’t have an eyebrella in summer is thermal stone, straw hat and carrying some nitre.

the boss already gives you the best sail, oar and watering can. needing to walk a little to refill it every many time isnt the end of the world

True, but it would still be very convenient without being OP and something to really look forward if you plan on farming for a while. Currently it’s most likely going to be a by-product of having killed it, but nobody will actively seek a malbatross for the current waterfowl can. Most boss items are something you look forward having.

Eh the Waterfowl can has nearly triple the shelf life of a normal one and is refillable. If the Waterfowl can had a durability and broke I could understand buffing it but the point of it is taking less trips to refill the water on it, letting you refill it in the ocean would kind of make it's high storage a pointless feature.

Plus it's tied to farming and farming is already really good as it is.

If anything the only ''change'' I think it needs is to let Webbers homespun skin work on it.

EDIT: My bad, it has MORE than triple

In fact I think it's one of the best boss drops in the game in principle. It's a flat upgrade to what you traditionally have, like the Eyebrella, and Bearger Vest. No ''kinda good but with a downside'' or ''Kinda better but low durability makes it impractical'' like some other boss drops. If we consider the Krampus Sack a pseudo boss drop, it's an upgrade to the backpack but lacks the preservation of the Bearger Backpack, the Scale Male is better armor than a Log Suit but risks damage to the area and is a waste of resources. Even the Bone armor and helm have their downsides and upsides.

Waterfowl can is a straight, no strings attached upgrade to the watering can and I think that makes it a very good boss item.

There are a lot of times when my spiders take on a lot of damage but the nurse spiders can't heal because they aren't in combat. A huge example of this is earthquakes in the caves. Over time they can slowly wittle your spiders HP down and can cause a nasty surprise attack to take a few down. It's more of an upkeep on their health when you don't have something nearby to fight and can't be bothered to find something to fight long enough for your nurse spiders to heal. When running long distances you don't stop for  every little thing that punches your spiders, or if you base in the desert when they get caught on fire from the dragonflys lava pits.

to be honest i rather prefer having more watering power than being able to refill it on the sea. Imagine not having to right click 4 times but 2, it will make a huge difference since anyways, for few resources, you can fill a chest with regular watering cans filled and fill them every many years

It's not better by a landslide, just some minor improvements. The eyebrella has a lower durability so it needs at least one sewing kit use to last through the summer while the floral shirt can last the entire summer if you make it a day or two into the season, and the floral shirt also has a 3.3/m sanity regen which is on-par with what the top hat gives.

Nothing to throw the eyebrella away over, but that's in addition to it being obtainable many many times per year instead of 0-1.2. Even when given the choice between the shirt or eyebrella I'll pick the shirt rather frequently, but I usually play with my friends who aren't as good at managing their inventory as I am so I'll usually give them the eyebrella and play with the shirt.

You can use walls to enter combat so your nurse spiders heal, cheaper option and less troublesome than making healing gloops, specially with caves earthquakes giving you stone.

I feel like Den Decorating set could be reworked. It has no real uses.

I think it’s true main use is creating a pen with decorated dens, where to safely drop your specialized spiders and they won’t escape or aggro the walls, because they will be affected by the pacify aura.

Lazy Forager- If it could just be refuelled like the magiluminescence can be, then this would be a great item.

Night Light- Too expensive to really run it, since I always need more nightmare fuel anyway, and there are plenty of better light sources- especially if you can get a mushroom light or glowcap. It was more useful in DS, because it was easy to amass tonnes of nightmare fuel if you just spent some time hanging around in the ruins (and this was the perfect time to use it in DS). But since in DST, nightmare creatures don't drop nightmare fuel when the nightmare phase ends, this isn't really worth it. If these behaved like Maxwell's lights from DS adventure mode, then I think they be decent.

One-man Band- Who the hell ever uses this? If it didn't last only 3 minutes, maybe one could foresee some use out of this.

Scalemail- Why does this provide less protection than the log suit it is made of? It forces it to only be used for the very niche circumstances where you need fire immunity. I would up it's protection to 85 or 90%.

Making plant happy. Otherwise it sucks.
