Have you tried just building a roof over the telescope?  The below setup worked for me once plugged in.

Yes and no. But I will revisit this - when I ran into the problem the first time, I did exactly this but the range was limited to 1 tile out, however, they changed some things a patch or two ago. So the next time I used it. It was exposed to space and It went further out. So my mileage varied apparently.

The whole idea is to use it at or around night from now on.

Apparently you do not need the glass tiles. Just that the background of the room is "space", which can even be covered by drywall.

Finally landed a seed with a salt water geyser on the water planet ( when I need it, atleast ).

As for the tree itself, when I first saw one, I momentarily thought that the slides were dual cannons, so I don't have a high trust value either.
