Bee Nicer With Beekeeper Hat

Recommended Posts

Currently, harvesting bee boxes will aggro a bunch of bees to attack you. Altho it's not hard, it's tedious to do the extra running or extra flingo on/off, or extra sting mini stuns during the harvesting.

I suggest bee boxes should behave differently when they are harvested by players wearing beekeeper hat. My suggested behavior is like this

- the bee box spawns 1 bee if the bee box still have any residents left inside.

- the bee sting the player once and once only before losing aggro

- the bee will then continue to pollinate or harass the player if in spring

- optional: wormwood can avoid the 1 bee sting wearing a beekeeper hat.

Why I think it's better and reasonable

1. It gives beekeeper hat more uses, and it costs the hat's durability

2. It's a similar model to harvesting cacti and spiky bushes, so it's not really new.

3. The cost is well balanced, which is about 1 to 2% hat's durability and 2 hp in total, compared to cacti -6. And it can be recovered by eating honey anyways

4. If you have a cluster of bee boxes, this can help avoid bee overcrowding or blocking each other in pathfinding.

5. The sense of being able to do thing in a better way is generally a good thing, i think.

I would like if the hat just didn't trigger the bees when harvesting, when I first played RoG on the console even, I thought that it was like that but well, the hat does a good job preventing the damage but I like the suggestion.
If not the hat, something like the bug be gone from hamlet but like a smoke thingy, to make the bees stay in the boxes, it would make a smoke area like the spores from the napsack/toadstool.
Could be made kinda cheap, charcoal, mosquito sack and ..twigs? Idk

Bee Queen's crown should deter bees from attacking when harvesting bee boxes, imo.

That's also a good idea. As reference to bee queen's crowns' effect to make make surrounding players to bow, maybe it should make the bees to bow, including killer bees, which blocks bees' attack action. And I think this sounds reasonable.

the hat already exists to counter the harvest attack. why do you want it to be even safer?

besides you can already avoid them by moving away.

or if you really hate it, use the fire/extinguish trick.

As I mentioned in OP, this is suggested exactly to avoid "moving away" and flingo trick. Maybe you can come up with some suggestion about how to avoid them.

The hat doesn't counter harvest, it only provides damage production. If the hat counter harvest attack as you said, then using the same logic I can say helmets counter dog attack, which is not true. So it doesn't counter the harvest attack.

No matter what, I think a lot of players will like the idea that we can use some tools to avoid the annoyance of bees during harvest instead of tricks or tedious running. I hope this gets more attention.

why we should avoid them? bee boxes is one of the most op and cheap food producers. You only need to harvest them after placed

hold space, move to the next hive, hold space, repeat until you're done, run away offscreen so the giant bee army disappears

that's all.

it's perfectly normal for one of the richest food ressource to have a little hazard.

True. Main reason is still preference, and the suggested new system is actually quite balanced. There is no legit reason not to do it.

Btw, the method you suggested is not always working on a server with slightly bigger lag.

it will have more sense to have stunlock resistance against bees but still being unneccesary

is a passive way of getting one of the best food in the game so having to deal with bees is the only downside it has (+winter but you get that much per box that it doesnt matter)

Your logic is sound: because bee boxes are so overpowered, it's reasonable to have some downside

But my logic is sound too: because bee boxes downside is tedious and repetitive, maybe try to design a new kind of downside that appears to be more advanced but hard to make / build / craft for late game.

The thing is that i dont see it tedious. I wear my mag and run clicking on the bee boxes so the bees cant reach me and i gather everything in few seconds. Food for days (+good recipes) in seconds without any player interaction

Then here comes the preference part. I like eating broccoli in real life and I say broccoli is super delicious. Do you get it?

Yes, you have your own preference and me another. For that are forums, to share different points of view and you made a suggestion based on your preference and i argue with mine
