One other thing you may want to consider is that you don't need to feed splugs constantly. How much "Free" power is generated as splugs slowly starve over a number of days, for instance.

Alternating Feeding / Not-Feeding days may increase your efficiency / metal ore (even if it lowers your energy / day)

Here is what I finally settled on.  I may do some re-design later, but this seems to work pretty well.

There are a lot more batteries elsewhere, but this is a decent first attempt.  The room with the slugs is 96 units in size.  Once they lay an egg, they cramp themselves -- which prevents other eggs, but does not reduce their power output.  I could harvest the eggs for omelettes, but I have plenty of food right now.  The slug producing only 320 watts was being groomed at the start of the night, so didn't get to bed until really late.  Putting a clock automation on the grooming station will solve that problem.

Other future changes will be removing consumers from the battery network so that I can draw KWs of power without burning wires out.  I really wish I could feed them refined metals, because as far as I can tell, metal ores are a finite resource and will, eventually, run out.  However, this was a fun experiment and the result is lookin' good!

I dump then on a platform with a double tile gap on the sides, a feeder on the top and a wire two below as per their plugging requirment.

They stay wild, if I left them go ungroomed after being tame, they will still produce 320W at night.

If I don't feed the wild ones, they don't starve to death, just produce less power. If I don't feed the tame ones - and they start being born tame on top of this - then they do starve to death.

I would rather keep mine wild so I can stop feeding them, they still produce a lot of hydrogen when they're tame and glum.

I tried using a slug inside a rocket for power purposes. It did work for the most part but whenever i rearranged something inside the cabin and left some ore on the ground i would get hydrogen on the top eventually it lead to having just one layer of oxygen in the middle with CO2 at the bottom and hydrogen at the top.

While i was thinking how to fix that Banhi got stressed and broke the window venting the cabin (almost suffocated in the process). Now the slug is walking outside the ship...

In the latest update [455425] plug slug baby seems to be tamable. Was plug sluglet (plug slug baby) always tamable?:-o

Any other baby critter doesn't go to grooming station but plug sluglet did.

It's probably a bug, right..?
