*(crash-landing google crash.. lol)

There are many different views of the game and the DLC at this point. For me it is just pure enjoyment every time I start a new colony

Here is an experience with the DLC (as is in EA 444834 built)

Colony No. xxx: Galactic base

After normally landing (3-4 rovers building basics) and crash-landing successfully in 2nd planetoid (radioactive one) in two previous colonies/updates ...

Spoiler

Normally landing :

Colony: Moonbase, Cycle: ~120, Dupes: 12

*building with rovers and having fun with zombie/disappearing ones1978326148_robotdead116.thumb.JPG.9e2d8d606af386e01f106b1b3a5b0aa2.JPG

*After building the most "necessary to survival" builds, sending a dupe

Duress to impress is ~awesome~!

Crash-landing:

Colony: Beyond, Cycle: 93, Dupes:14

*probably it shouldn't be possible to land .. under land.. but oh well.. It was closer to oxygen :P

*Working in farts because... oops! I forgot I had flatulent dupes XD

Once picking Ellie (cycle 6), Marie didn't seem so bad (cycle 19), plus.. free natural gas! Anyways...

*Building bare minimum, then leaving planet (~cycle 109)

..and after watching Brothgar attempt to land at another farther away planetoid (4th one?), I started a new save (last update made planet cluster closer/more compact I think).

It took a couple of cycles to stabilize the colony (200..) but it was time to search around a bit more

So... 4th planetoid IS livable (Brothgar proved it)

but ...

Is it possible to crash-land at ice planet, survive and return to tell the story?!

Spoiler

Yes it is...! A stressful 20 cycles watching a dupe smash stuff and angry jumping XD

Just to clarify.. I am no expert (never-built-a-sour gas/petroleum-boiler expert), I only watched too many tutorials and played too many hours trying not to die in ONI.

Once I watched Francis' attempt with rockets, I had in mind(like above) a better design of rocket interior that (probably..) wouldn't melt down a dupe, stressing them to 100%

(still reached 100% after a while though.. :? )

*Soiled suit +40%?! What the...

Also... I think gasping for air while wearing a suit does not consume oxygen..?!

I thought it would be over many times and (it being a game) I'll have to roll back to a save and do the trip all over again...

(I really don't know how! Luck? Chit chatting with Ari..?)

Nisbet managed to refuel the rocket and leave! (with company..) :D

Question:

Does anyone have any idea how glass is made?! What (sandstone..?) melted to what (sand..?) to make glass...? [Edit: *Glass was made, out of nothing at an ice planet never visited before after an iron volcano eruption. Sorry... my english.. :? ]

**Save files of "Galactic base" in case anyone would want to play around/test your luck crash-landing (I did it once! Not again... In another colony with another dupe.. maybe.. XD )

Quick answer: Sand is melted to glass in the Kiln.

You might be confusing the kiln for the glass forge. But yes it uses sand to produce glass. The output pipe dumps liquid glass which is around 1,500 Celsius but if you put it near the space biome where everything freezes carbon dioxide you won’t have a problem.

Yes.. I know how glass is made in game. I was just wondering what could possibly melt to sand to create glass around a volcano where there was only ice  (can sleet wheat melt to sand?! I've never tried that before... XD )

Ok... the longer I stare at it I get it now... Polluted ice - p water -steam+dirt - dirt to sand - sand to glass... wow... there was so much going on and I missed it staring Nisbet smashing things xD

Yep, you're right. I'll edit my original post. Thanks!

Oh no my friend :) you have to use the Rock Crusher to crush raw minerals like sandstone or even better the salt from the desalination of the brine geyser into sand. From there you make glass. Sleet wheat is a seed and being of genetic ooze properties requires 9500 or so Celsius to melt it and it would crash your game lol. You only want sand right?
reading your post again. Do you want to create tiles of not dug glass? I mean sand melts at a higher temperature than magma. It would be very difficult to achieve this with an iron volcano.

I didn't "want" anything (and knowingly crashing the game.. nope! ). It was an "gift" from the volcano god when I wasn't paying attention XD

*I gave a guess above to what could possibly have happened: after digging up the active iron volcano (it was the same ice planet Nisbet crash-landed. Did I mention that..?) , rising temperature melted polluted ice, snow and ice around the volcano. Temperature rose more and made everything into steam but polluted water leaves dirt behind when turning into steam. Dirt though convert to sand above 300+C degrees. And sand then converted to glass. I just don't know if this happened in one or more eruptions of the volcano, because I wasn't watching it at the moment it happened (sorry if my trail of thought is too condensed above :? )

It can turn into a rot pile which can turn into polluted dirt which when heated turns into sand.

Sand melts at 1712.9, iron volcano erupts at 2526.9 C... Easy glass for an iron volcano :D I just ..did not expect that

Got it.. I was confused as hell but now I know what you mean. And yes you can turn sand to glass at that temperature. I just thought it would take time since eruptions are somewhat weak. But strong enough to make glass from some sand indeed.
Now hold up did you dig up the volcano or was it opened already?

The volcano was buried in ice. Dug up the volcano to get the iron ,then build the platform, land the rocket, return to original colony.

But.. lesson learned: never dig up volcanoes and leave them unattended... XD
