Sigh, another update. I love new content, but these are coming sooo fast. I haven't mastered handling winter yet, and now there is more. Am I the only one who wishes it slowed down a bit? I feel like I will have to play 24/7 in order to adjust to this update before the next one comes along.

This is a good thing! Kevin & Klei are kickin butt!

I love it and am glad there are coming so often because once the game is out who knows how often they will update it and once they start on a new game DS will get fewer and fewer updates. So just enjoy it for now sooner or later the updates will be few and far between and you'll be begging for more of them.

I'm perfectly fine with the pace as it stands. I haven't mastered winter yet either (I rarely last long enough for winter to even begin), but I have no problems adjusting to the new content. Sure, there's plenty of content I haven't experienced yet from previous updates (I haven't even seen a deerclops or McTusk, much less fought them, even in my most successful runs that make it to winter), but I love getting new stuff to tinker about with (current project: are there crock pot recipes that use mushrooms?).The pace is also quick because we're getting towards launch (pushed back to April, but we're still close). I believe they've said that there will be a couple of updates post-launch, but they want to present as complete and polished a game as they can at launch (which I applaud Klei for).

It definitely makes me glad i am doing it in beta, as I would definitely feel more overwhelmed if I plopped down in the game with everything all at once. As it is I feel I am teetering already. I was playing around with the spider hat, experimenting with what worked and didn't work and just starting to get the hang of it when boom winter. Last night I died again in winter and was planning out what I was going to do differently tonight and now this. =)

Not impressed with things being made that much harder so soon.Food spoils very quickly now.I started getting tracers (insane) by day 5, even though I made a garland first thing, it went stale right away.I spawned a treeguard on day 6, after only cutting down 3 trees.Day 7 - Spider nest spawns 3 greenies and 3 black on first hit.I couldn't even get past day 12 before this update. I don't stand a chance of ever seeing winter now. Plus, I can't convince my spouse, teenage son and gaming sister to take my free copy after they've seen me start over, and over, and over from the very beginning. They think the game mechanics are too monotonous after a certain point. If there were a different penalty for death besides the save file being wipes, maybe.

Nobody can really say the game is too hard when now we have every slider in Custom mode. If you want an easier time then adjust the different options to your liking. Crank up food and resources if you want for example, or lower monster spawn. Make summers long so winter doesn't even hit till Day 51.

I have been doing some restoring of save files (I use steam). I generally let myself have a save file at day 10, just so when I invariably die, I don't have to start completely over. If I do any save files after that it is at day 25, 50, etc. It seems the only way I have enough time to play and get far enough into the game to experience things. So far with the winter update the farthest I had gotten was day 36. Having the save files lets me be a bit more adventurous. I was getting way to frustrated started completely over every time I did something stupid, but losing up to 24 days of progress seems enough of a penalty for me. =)edit: I haven't tried using the sliders, tho I may do a test world with those soon, just to see what it does.

That would defeat the whole purpose. Also i would like to know what makes the game hard to you? Because to me it is easy.

How am I supposed to get web, when by the time I can make a log suit and spear, there are more/harder spiders spawning with each hit than I'm capable of killing? 3 greenies on the first hit? 4 hits to kill each one. No food to gulp down to up HP lost in the battle.

But if we play that way we're "cheating." Or we're inferior players as is implied by people like (but not limited to) sirmentlegen who say it's easy for them and they can't understand why we aren't doing better.

Kill it with fire, especially if there's a forest surrounding it, and run to some pigs or beefalo. That's what I do about spiders (and hounds, generally). I let other critters do the work for me.

I think the spider spawning numbers got reset to super-hard-mode when we branched this time. Must have forgot to push a hotfix from the last update back on to the development branch. We have a couple of bug fixes ready for the morning, so I'll take a quick look into that as well.

The science machine is easy to make and should be up by day 1 or 2. The best way to deal with spider nests is to camp outside of them and kill the spiders one by one as they come out.

Tried that, the fire hurt me and the whole nest burned without dropping anything.

Oh thank god. I thought the spider thing was the new norm and I was getting pretty pissed off.

The first few days are a race to get set up as fast as you can. I try to find a pig town and set up a base by day 3. I don't wait for a log suit for kill spiders. They are usually around where pigs are, and you can drag them toward the pigs and when there is only 1 left following you turn and kill that one. If you wait til you are completely geared up, they will be more and stronger.

I don't consider it cheating. Don't Starve is a sandbox - you should adjust the sliders until the game is fun for you. The default tuning is set up to be a bit of a meat grinder - it stems from the game's rougelike-like heritage. Not everyone enjoys that, so we made most things adjustable.

It took me 5 days to find a pig town (bad luck probably) and I set up camp asap, but after chopping 3 trees a treeguard spawned and wiped out every pig in town. Why couldn't they just leave him alone? I planted pinecones until he settled down, but they still attacked. Buttholes.

I actually saw a spider nest parked right on top of a swamp monster spawn point. Easiest silk I've ever gotten. All I had to do was get one piece at a time to avoid the tentacle. :D

In my honest opinion, doing that ruins the game. Why make it easier if the game was meant to be played a certain way? No one wants to make the game easier for themselves, they just want to be able to play it and at least get to a reasonable point before dieing. I refuse to mess with the sliders solely because I want to beat the game how it was meant to be played. But I agree on the increasing difficulty the game seems to be receiving in a short amount of time. My boyfriend refuses to play the game because of the repetitiveness and increasing difficulty after each update, making it extremely difficult for him to want to play the game. This game already has a huge unforgiving theme to it. With all that was said, I absolutely love this game and I want to master it!

Wow, i have never seen anybody complain that a game gets finished/improved too fast.I'd say 14 days are enough, but i feel ya'. I only experienced 2 winters and not a single deerclops, because reallife and stuff. But i still appreciate the fast updates.
