Craigjw
It's not weird, it's awesome and is totally under used. psusi
No, i mean it's really weird that the petroleum on top forces the oil underneath into over-pressure instead of being pushed up. I guess they screwed up and hard coded the pushing to 1000 kg even though many liquids have less max pressure than that. Just like they did with the vent. They should be using the max pressure for whatever the liquid is. A quick test suggests, that a liquid blocked by another liquid on top will push up when it reaches 150% of its regular max. mass. Petroleum ~1100 kgLead ~14949 kgP.Water ~1496 Edit: If there is gas above, the liquids are not blocked. This was probably the reason for @Angpaur and @Craigjw's disagreement. Craigjw
There is no disagreement with @Angpaur, only helpful & supportive info on this subject. I present a system that works and I've used it for many thousands of cycles, for several play through's, I'm arguing facts, while there seem to be peoples opinions being pissed into the wind, trying to explain how it shouldn't work. As long as the column is 3 tiles high, it all works fine and having a gas in the mix is kind of a moot point considering it's a column of liquids. I've had gases being present in my converters and it doesn't break in the sense of being over-pressure. Don't let gasses into the thing, it's not good in any case. Here's another nifty over-pressure distillation machine, which has unlimited storage, of course this requires a Thermium grade pump. Hellshound38
My problem with this is if it gets over pressurized eventually the crude in the pipe will state change. Even using ceramic it will eventually happen, if say you built a base that didn't need petro for hundreds of cycles while you left it on overnight. To prevent this you would have to force the use of fuel, or vent it to space, which usually goes against my design goals. I find it safer to limit the flow before it gets to the area hot enough to cause state change. If it gets overpressrized and vent is blocked then it means temperature is not high enough to change crude oil into petroleum. So you don't need to worry about your pipes.
