Only DST?

Recommended Posts

Don't Starve Together includes the Reign of Giants features as part of the game itself, no need to buy it separately. You start with Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wendy, WX-78, Wickerbottom, Woodie, Wes, Maxwell, Wigfrid, Webber, Winona, and Warly. The other characters are DLC and need to be purchased or woven with spools.

Reign of Giants is already integrated into DST, so you'll get almost all of its features automatically. Some of them were changed for DST, like the Dragonfly living in the desert all the time instead of attacking your camp in the summertime, but the only things that are in Reign of Giants singleplayer but not DST are a couple of minor elements like mushtrees growing on the surface during full moons.

You'll be able to play as Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wendy, WX-78, Wickerbottom, Woodie, Wes, Maxwell, Wigfrid, Webber, Winona, or Warly without buying any other DLC, but you'll have to pay extra for Wortox, Wormwood, or Wurt, and you won't be able to play as Wagstaff, Walani, Wilbur, Woodlegs, Wilba, Wheeler, or Warbucks at all unless you use mods.

Don’t Starve Together is the Multiplayer stand alone expansion to Don’t Starve.

you do not need to own Don’t Starve to buy and play DST.

HOWEVER- DST is NOT compatible with the single player dlcs- Shipwrecked & Hamlet.

The characters in DST also find themselves gaining some new unique abilities and gameplay changes from single player DS- I guess this is to truly turn DST into a Sequel of Sorts.. and to also obviously provide us with some Multiplayer focused abilities-

(Only a Handful of the characters have been refreshed so far- Willow, Wormwood, Warly, Woodie and Winona.. everyone else is still subject to new changes throughout 2020)

You can absolutely Play DST Alone if you want- But I would still recommend you find at least 1 or 2 (trustworthy) friends to play with.

Also sadly- DST does NOT currently have an Adventures Mode (the 5 chapter Campaign from Solo DS) so pretty much you just run around doing whatever you want to do as completely optional content.

The Return of Them updates: Turn of Tides, Salty Dog, Hook Line & Inker, continue to add even more completely optional new content for you to enjoy. There has been no official word on how big Return of Them actually is- or for that matter how many more Updates are part of that string of DLC.

But the good news is that all of the games DLC including the extra characters Wurt, Wormwood, Wortox and a final TBA 4th.. is 100% free- You can buy them with money if you want to unlock them quickly but they can still be unlocked through just playing the game and weaving for 2700 spool.

Spool is a feature unique to DST- In DST you will occasionally earn Curios, Curios allow you to customize your game even further with items that reskin already existing items- Such as for example you can unlock a Spear skin that turns it into a Hockey stick, it still serves the same function as a normal Spear and provides no additional bonus- it’s just reskinned to look like a hockey stick.

And that’s the Gist of Don’t Starve Together, Play, Unlock Curios, Customize you clothing and craftable items so that it’s unique to you. Enjoy
