Wurt the Squirt
Currently playing a new world as Woodie with my partner Wurt (good synergy for getting her all the materials she needs). I'm loving the idea of the merm empire so far however it just seems so ridiculously tedious for Wurt to create a clever disguise every 6 days for all her friends. Especially since the clever disguises spoil like a food item instead like clothing where you can at least repair with a sewing kit without bothering Wurt so often or it won't deteriorate when not in use. This also makes it harder since you can't stockpile them, making it very difficult to get the fish needed to make them during Winter when ponds are frozen and the Craftsmerm Houses don't respawn Merms as regularly as other seasons. You could potentially stockpile the fish but they spoil really fast. I understand winter is supposed to be a challenging season but having to abandon base to avoid the merms as a non wurt character or killing them for the season or building them away from your base seems to really defeat the purpose. I feel as though wearing the disguise is hard enough already since it takes away your usage of heat insulation/ waterproof/ sanity hat gear when around Merms. I have read across the forum that creating the Merm King does 'neutralise' Merms from being agressive towards players (I have yet to make the king) however it seems really unclear if this is intentional or a bug that will be patched (since there seems to exist quite a few behaviour bugs being patched at the moment). So although I'm enjoying the new character at the moment I would really like to see the following changes to make things perfect.TLDR Make clever disguise a clothing item or last much longer. Visually indicate the passiveness Merms have towards non-Wurt players when King is risen (or patch if this is a bug). Alternatively, Make an item you just need to have in your inventory to neutralise Merms instead of wearing it so it doesn't take away our use of useful hats in Merm base (eg. Merm Sweat to disguise your scent like some animals do in real life). mistrbushido
If the only issue that you want to avoid is hostile merms, you only need to keep a Merm King alive. Merms will be neutral to other players if there is a Merm King present in the world, so there is no need to keep making disguises for your teammates. However, if your teammates want to help feed the king or befriend merms, they still need the disguise for those. Electroely
1 hour ago, Wurt the Squirt said: I have read across the forum that creating the Merm King does 'neutralise' Merms from being agressive towards players (I have yet to make the king) however it seems really unclear if this is intentional or a bug that will be patched (since there seems to exist quite a few behaviour bugs being patched at the moment). As far as I'm aware this is an intentional feature. The script files show that this is something that was manually added in, and a recent patch had turned merms from completely passive to regular players to only passive when the King is alive. I personally haven't had much trouble letting my friends get near merms. As long as you get a Royal Tapestry and at least one Craftsmerm House, getting a King is only a matter of whether you have the food to give them or not. I've been turning merms into Kings with as little as 2 roasted potatoes, so I don't think feeding the King is a big issue. I haven't had to ever make a Clever Disguise yet; I'm making my merm city in an area separate from the actual base we have, and keeping the King fed has been easy enough for me to maintain on a regular basis. If you're concerned about winter, you can force a merm out of its house with a torch and some ice. Light the house on fire to scare the merm out of it, then use the ice to extinguish it (the same way you use logs to fuel a campfire) and save it from being destroyed. The merm will run to the tapestry rather than back home, and you can feed him to make him into a King in order to activate guard houses and the extra stat boost. camelot
1. You can put Disguises in Snow Chester to double it's perish time (12 days) 2. You can wrap Disguises in Bundling Wraps to preserve it indefinitely Also, anyone with Disguises can promote and feed the King, so you can craft like 10 Disguises, wrap 9 in Bundling Wraps and put 1 in Snow Chester when not in use and no need to craft it again in like 120 days Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/113103-really-tedious-to-make-clever-disguises-recommendationsideas/#findComment-1277770 Share on other sites
maradyne
I feel it scales well currently. If you only have a couple friends playing with you, disguises aren't very expensive to make. If you have a lot of people, disguise cost does go up...but those people can also go out and get the tapestry supplies really quickly. Zeklo
Having a Merm King is the best option, but honestly I don't think you should be using the disguises as a 24/7 thing. They always seemed (to me) like the kind of thing you make when you're actually doing something with the merms—like a fight. Passively making them just to be near a merm infested base sounds and pretty much is inefficient. Distance the merms.
