thewreckedangle
^ ... like.. its water.. + carbon dioxide. why so dirty? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/108507-carbon-skimmers-should-output-carbonated-clean-water/ Share on other sites
Sasza22
My guess is it uses minerals to catch the CO2 causing the water to become polluted. Maybe the original intention was for the skimmer to use some extra stuff. Lime would make logical sense but would be pretty off balancewise. Nightinggale
The main reason for outputting polluted water is game balance. If it inputs clean water and outputs clean water, what will prevent you from connecting the output to the input? If you could do that, then why add the water requirement? While what you say makes sense from a logical point of view, it makes no sense from a gameplay point of view. Sasza22
What if it used a salt input and outputted salt water? natanstarke
Carbon skimmer is fine as it is in my eyes. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/108507-carbon-skimmers-should-output-carbonated-clean-water/#findComment-1221859 Share on other sites
I_Link_I
I could imagine "carbonated Walter"The skimmer would not be damaged by it but wouldnt do anything when its pumpwd back in. It could be simmalar to poluted but instead of P.Oxygen it would offgas Co2. Would be funny to add to my waste/storage tanj outside the base . LordHalo
Well, I like to think its polluted because its a catch all phrase to say its not suitable for normal use. Because polluted water could contain anything, like poop, pee, carbon or some kind of sediment/dirt. so instead of complicating the game further by making a new type of liquid to clean they just call it polluted. A bit lazy, sure, but it helps simplify somethings. Nebbie
Carbonated water for sodas would be nice, but I feel the real core problem is that they may have intended originally to create an actual carbon scrubber to turn CO2 into O2 at the cost of lime, then the design got messy and they just decided to make it delete CO2 and alter water instead, pretending that pee and water with carbonic acid are remotely comparable for gameplay purposes while in alpha. I would quite like it if it became an actual scrubber, although we'd need more ways to get lime. And lime was added to the consumabe ore category. First time i saw that i instantly assumed it is going to fuel the scrubber. But it turned out we are getting very little of it to balance steel production and the game went a different way. SpydrXIII
all they have to do is make getting lime easier and then they can turn the skimmer back into a scrubber. Gwido
In a way, it would be great if the carbon skimmer became a "gas skimmer", with a gas input, so that player could delete any type of gaz at the cost of an additionnal gas pump. It will then explain why it produce generic polluted water.
