They eat trees, not lumber.

It says 0.3kg/cycle. The kg part is obviously wrong since trees don't have mass as such, but the 0.3 means 30% of maturity value. In case of trees, it refers to the most mature branch.

So a pip will eat up to 30% of a branch per cycle. This would mean that one wild tree should sustain almost 1.3 domestic pips, since it has 7 branches and each branch gains 1/18 maturity per cycle.

So 6 wild trees to feed a full stable of 8 pips. Seems reasonably easy to set up.

Not quite. Over time you'll probably get the occasional starvation warning as 6 trees will do 7.8 pips. I doubt any would actually die, but that's a warning that I only want to see when I need it. I'm personally thinking of going slightly smaller with 4 trees per 5 pips which gives me a slight surplus (5.2 pips worth of growth) and an extra stable or 2 depending on just how hungry for dirt the Oxyferns are.
