Today's the day, printed fellows.

I've been wondering how much time should I wait before showing some of the project I was working on, since, I guess the last year ?

I think it's time to show you what is FNI : Food Not Included !

Basically, my favorite game since I was what we can call a kid to today was Don't Starve, and Together later. I had so much good times on it and I liked as well Oxygen Not Included, the both games asked me for lot of challenges and then, facing the fact that those games are actually different but have a similar sense of approaching end if you don't pay enough attention granted me an idea that I had to try out !

"What could happen if you play Don't Starve in the actual ONI world ?"

This is what I've been on for a long time, I had to remake the full mod 3 times, since my opinion of a 'ONI World' changed a lot, it started from new biomes added in an actual DST world, to today with an entire new map with blocks to dig to build your base. Yep, I guess this final approach is quite more 'ONI' like that the very first attempt...

So here's some pictures of what you could expect :

What ? Is that to dark ? ok hold on

Okay so, I hope this look okay for you. And if it don't, trust me that I'll always try my best to improve the first playable version of this mod.

We have here an exemple of things I've tried to make for the base on early playing with FNI.

- Custom Spawn : You may notice that you spawn at the Printing Pod that include a Ration Box with few ressources inside

* The Box have food but also some pickaxes so you start mining and then starting the game

- Plants : The plants of FNI will try to have a as close as possible behavior than the one on ONI, requisements to grow, days before harvesting...

* You can find Bristle Blossoms, Thimble Reeds, Dusk Caps... in their biomes and uproot them with a gardening tool to get a seed and start over in a box

- Energy and Buildings : There is a Manual Generator on the screen, that is fully working to generate power as long you or another being is running inside

* Generated power can be used in buildings instantly *or transport it in wires to a battery (not inplemented yet but i have my ideas for doing this)

- Research : To unlock recipes you will have to make your own "Novice Researchs" and "Apprentice Researchs" with the research centers in a new tab for a while using ressources like dirt and bottled water for a long time before spending the points in a group of recipes you can choose at the Pod

Talking about water I should tell you how the liquids and gases react in this world.

Each block you see on screen is a state that can be solid, a liquid, or air

The spawpoint is located in a Oxygen blocks arena, air blocks have a score that will be its mass, when a solid block like a Sandstone one is destroyed, it will turn into a air block and trade the mass of the nearby other air blocks around it and it's the same thing for their content (Oyxgen, hydrogen...), they will trade as needed before equalize blocks around them, the player can refill the O2 bar as long it is in a brethable area and consume the mass of the air blocks of O2 around them. You can't see for now the blocks cause I can't find a propper way to make them visible without messing with the view, you can suggest me about it ! :)

Liquid have pretty much the same behaviour except that they can take over air blocks and flood as long there is free space UNTIL they reach a turf/*wall (soon) that has been build and placed or that the liquid reached the minimal mass to stop flooding.

Most of the things works like how they should do in ONI but witht the Don't Starve touch.

For exemple, art will requise you to have "experience on the server" so if you start trying to make a cool sculpture on day 1... honestly, a morb could do better.

But trying after a while will result in something better, this mecanism is a first step before I include skills and hats that could requise lot of time for being completely functionnal...

Some more ?

Refining metals is pretty getting funier when you do it yourself

of course Eggs can hatch but it will just result in mini-pigs as far cause I'm struggling making animation good enough for mobs... yeah seriously !

Some setpiece as been already made, this is a very odd Maxwell's Statue i guess...

Yeah of couse this'll be... improved...

So that'll be all for now, I know that it is maybe not enough to give you a complete idea of when it'll come or if it's gonna be fun to play, but I can give you some details :

First, I've always imagined FNI to be a multiplayer gamemode, if you have to play the role as a duplicant yourself you better make a colony with some friends

Also, I'll only upload the mod as a beta when I judge it's good enough to play for a long time without being borred, that's what I'm focus on as now

Next, this mod... takes time, I use assets of the game but have to recreate the animations myself to be sure things are as close than the real animations

the best moment of my life was when I had to wait for the plants to grow to the next stages to make the next animation and... Did i fall asleep ?

And there is, as you can guess, many new mecanisms I have to bring to DST to make it functionnal and if possible, not that buggy

I plan to make the more I can to make it as close of a ONI-survival world, I'll even try out to make 2-3 duplicants from the actual game as playble character with game-trails like narcoleptic and other stuff, who would you like to see for DST ?

So... I hope I can have some feedbacks of your feelings about FNI, how some things could be done depending of the game properties and other stuff, I'll need your help to make it as good as a new DST experience, If you want to help you can add me on steam or chatting here to discuss on it :wilson_love:

it looks fairly interesting but just by looking at the pictures personally i would not enjoy it as the environment looks like a constant terrain this could make it all look the same, this kinda makes it hard to play as i wouldn't find the environment very visually appealing

but overall i can tell this is beautifully crafted

When will you release your mod? i'm waiting to download the mod, It's really cool

Hi, so I should have probably asked to close this topic and edit it but I've only announced that in a status update some years ago. But sadly this mod is cancelled.

The big reason for that is because I was really hoping this mod could be played with friends so everyone work around like a colony in ONI, however quite early I noticed the game (DST) couldn't keep up with the mod concept because it's not really meant to replicate even a fragment of all the stuff constantly updating like on ONI. I should have realised that even before I start doing anything but this was already troublesome after I finished the solids, liquids and gases tile system. So despite the idea was fun, and I tried quite a lot to optimise things, yet I still needed and added a lot of machineries and transportation stuff which were always slowing down things more and more but I was still hoping this might be playable at some point, but I was having constant lag even on local world so I had to stop working on it.

So sorry, that would have been cool but the scale of that thing wasn't realistic at all and it was up to me to realise it which I did only too late. At least it was a fun thing to do while it lasted.
