Pacifist: cannot perform errand: Combat

Mole Hands: +3 to dig

But he cant work as miner. Anyone can tell me whats wrong? I tried relog world/game and still he cant do this job. Trait pacifist just "killed" his chance to being miner?

Oh someone else reported the same issue in other post. Pacifist not being able to mine. I think it worths a bug report if it isn't done already.

Thanks for answer! I found thread in bug tracker, good to hear it isnt just my problem.

It certainly hit my current game hard as I take on pacifists like there's no tomorrow as it's the least bad trait of all. In fact it's arguably beneficial as it reduces the number of dupes that go on critter killing sprees when you want it.

However, with a morale system, and particularly with a skill based system, I really don't see why any dupes should be artificially barred from doing certain job. It would be much better if it just gave a morale penalty, similar to or even greater than the bonus given for interest.

I believe this is because the digging attribute also determines damage when attacking; thus, when the system looks at which activities a dupe can't do it sees incapable of attacking as somehow related to digging, and so prevents the dupe from learning digging.

I'd hazard a guess that "attacking" is really just digging a creature. Or maybe digging is just "attacking" a block? Where's @Oozinator? Maybe he can clear this up?

I try my best!
Since 1837 Emil Lobermann invented the shovel grip and hit accidentally a wombat with the handle, digging is related to combat!
