Geyser calculator and visualization

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've put some more time into Oni Assistant and rolled out a Geyser Calculator to add to the Rocket Calculator. It simply presents the volume of material output and energy output so you can plan the usage of the material and cooling requirements.

Visualization below the table gives a view of how the peaks of eruptions average out of the eruption and activity cycle.

Interested to hear feedback on the tool and if there are any other little calculations you'd like to see a quick web-app built for.

Cheers,

Nice one ;)

You should list the frame of reference for your "DTU/s" calculation.

The last version of your Rocket Calculator is really good.

About the geyser calculator, I don't feel it's intuitive like your graphic is. In fact, what I want with  geyser calculator :

- How many electrolyzers, plants, etc. I can use with it.

- How many wheezewort I need to cool it steam.

- How many tiles I need to storage the total water produced during the active period.

Update to allow users to select the temperature target for the geyser and the DTU/s per second shows the cooling/heating required to hit that target.

I've added the tiles required as an output.

With the other items, I see where you're going, were this only a Cool Steam Vent calculator then all of that would be immediately implemented. Because its a little more general, and plants cant use liquid gold for example, I don't want to fold too many Steam specific metrics on the page.

What I have done is added an element database so you can follow the link for water for example and see its attributes, transitions and (once implemented) uses by plants, critters, machines etc.

Yes, you're right my idea is only good for the steam vent geyser. ^^

91 983 KG Water
91 983 tiles @1000KG

Maybe a bug?

Ok I always calculate my "required storage" using a more advanced formula and not sure if everyone would want this number.

(Total output of the whole active period) - (Average Output of the whole activity cycle * Length of the active period)

When I find a new geyser I calculate the average output of the whole activity cycle to determine how much I am able to get out of my geyser.

=> I design my systems for continuous operation, so I have no need for a storage able to store the output of the whole active period.

(I just need a storage for the "overproduction" compared to the average output while the active period to keep everything running.)

Very cool, thank you for your continued efforts!

Here's an idea that'd save me (and probably others) a fair bit of spreadsheet time:

- Allow the entry of all vents/geysers/etc, and show the output, storage & cooling requirements, etc, in one screen. Also show totals if there are multiple vents in a category, such as total water/s, total pwater/s, total natgas, total magma, metal, etc.

- Allow the entry of a seed, and if it's present on Cairath's site, auto-populate all geyser info. Not sure how easy it is to parse her stuff but I'm sure she'd be receptive to creating an API if needed.

Interesting idea. Does Cairath's tool store the metrics of the geysers though or only their count?

Well, the data is stored under geyser details of each seed. The data regarding:

  • Eruption rate
  • Erupts for X s every Y s
  • Active for A cycles every B cycles

should suffice but the question rather is if one is able to easily copy the data

Also, obviously this is just plain awesome like the Rocket Calculator. Klei might as well pay you (for commemorative purposes~) and implement this into ONI itself. Duplicants want calculators and they want them now!
