Ranching attribute benefit?

Recommended Posts

All other attributes provide some improvement to the duplicants' abilities:

  • Construction: Construction Speed
  • Digging: Digging Speed, Attack Damage
  • Tinkering: Tinkering Speed
  • Athletics: Runspeed
  • Learning: Research, Skill Leveling(1)
  • Cooking: Cooking Speed
  • Creativity: Decorating Speed
  • Strength: Tidying Speed, Carrying Capactity
  • Kindness: Compound Treatment Speed, Medical Care Speed(2)
  • Farming: Harvesting Speed, Tending Speed(3)
  • Ranching: ... nothing?

Does ranching currently not benefit the duplicant? If it does not benefit them, then does that mean the Seasoned Rancher job is completely useless?(4) Has anyone had any experience indicating that perhaps there's a benefit that's not explicitly identified?

Thanks!

Notes:

Spoiler
  1. I didn't know learning benefits skill leveling ... cool.
  2. I don't know the difference between these two.
  3. I question if this is for applying farmer's touch, since while applying farmers touch the duplicant status says "Tinkering".
  4. Duplicants learn the critter wrangling and grooming station traits as part of regular Rancher job.

I've not seen any difference between my starting dupe with 0 ranching and the same dupe with now 15 in ranching skill. Sadly... I really hope it would make the critters move faster to the groomer or the shearing station. Or maybe shorten those animations.

Edit : Or maybe more simply extend the duration of the "groomed" buff on critters. That would not need any modification in the animations. Only a simple logic when applying the buff. Maybe like 0.1 cycle every 2 ranching point ? And a extra 0.2 cycle for the more advanced job ? That would be awesome.

Agreed with an extended buff duration for grooming with higher ranching attribute or higher rancher rank. The current groomed buff seems to be kind of short enough that you can't manage as many ranches as, say, a farm, with a well-trained duplicant for the respective jobs. A longer buff duration that scales with the stat will definitely reduce the need for multiple ranchers which I am finding necessary in almost all my games.

If its anything like the ranch room bonus it might just tame the critters faster. Looks like a prime candidate for a revision either way.

Would love an extended groomed buff though. Atm ranches are the most expensive things in terms of dupe time, unlike other systems you cant shut them down temporarily either without worrying abt mass extinctions (which is good btw) but they can be a bit of a headache.

If Klei wants ranches to be a daily chore by design then just making the animations faster would be nice.

Maybe a bit of animal magnetism where a high ranch dupe will have tame critters run towards them like a puppy when they enter the ranch? I think that wld be cute n productive and im all for anything that makes critters feel more alive and less like walking factories.

Maybe they are waiting to overhaul critters and improve performance on their pathing and such to make the change ? Anyway that'd be the way I would do it. It's dangerous to encourage people to play with critters if there is a chance that will lag their game.

Let's hope it is for this upgrade !

Ranch room bonus doesn't do anything either.

dang, chances are this is already being worked on then. wouldn't be surprised if the next build changed a bunch of ranching stuff along with puft and moo rebalancing

You should enter this in the Suggestions forum.  Great idea.
