Balance Woodlegs Outside of SW

Recommended Posts

First off, let me just say that I think Woodlegs is great. His Lucky Hat is extremely useful, the Sea Legs is like an Armored Boat but even better (and available from day 1, which is really good), and the constant Sanity drain on land is the perfect way to counter his huge advantages at sea. So, Woodlegs (IMO) is a very interesting and fun character. IN SHIPWRECKED. That is where this post comes in. Klei has already said that they are going to make both Warbucks and Wilba have an actual purpose outside of Hamlet, but who here thinks that poor ol' Woodlegs should get some attention as well? I have some ideas that would make Woodlegs an interesting character in all DLCs. Tell me what you think! Please note that I don't think he should have all of the perks mentioned below, just some of them.

-His Lucky Hat could be usable in both RoG and Hamlet. On top of that, the X Chests it reveals will have items specific to that world (things like Snake Bones, Swashy Hats, Halberds, Oincs, Relics etc. in Hamlet, and things like Thulecite, Glommer's Goop, Glow Berries, Volt Goat Horns, Tam O' Shanters, Moggles etc. in RoG)

-He could come with a special weapon, similar to Wigfrid's Battle Spear. Maybe a Pirate's Cutlass? (Yarrrr, it be a pirate's finest sword). I have two ideas for what it could be like. Either it would essentially be a re-skin of the Battle Spear, OR it could have infinite durability, but only do 20 Damage. Similar to Lucy the Axe.

-Ol' Woodlegs be partial to the sea... Sanity would stop draining when Woodlegs was near the edge of the map. Essentially, if he can see the water, he is happy.

-Wolly want a cracker? Woodlegs could come with his pet parrot, Wolly! Like the Cutlass, there are two possible ways that Wolly could work. Either she would act like Abigail, following Woodlegs around and attacking hostile mobs, but only doing 10 damage at all times, maybe providing a small sanity aura similar to Glomer, or she could be sort of like Bernie in DST, in that she could distract Shadow Creatures. Aye, she be the best mate a pirate could ask for!

Agreed with lucky hat.

Maybe in Hamlet give him a "Sea (peg) Legs" blueprint- Sea Legs but without Canon.

I actually like this idea. Have Wolly fly around Woodlegs or sit on his Head.  It'd do 5 dmg but would be immortall. It would also not aggro creatures on itself. Wolly would have quotes and all. Maybe durring Winter, Hurricane, Lush seasons it'd just sit on Woodleg's head and go: "It too cold fer ol'Wolly" "Me wings be uselles in th'wind" "Ah-choo! Ol'Wolly ain't feelin' like flying". This would be his special thingy in Rog and Hamlet- a little helping hand while fighting.

Maybe Wolly would give a small sanity boost when she is sitting on Woodlegs' head? Kind of like standing close to Glommer. Just something to help with Sanity in the early days. Maybe she would only sit on Woodlegs' head when not fighting or when asleep at night.

I agree with the Lucky Hat but disagree with the other suggestions. A heavy & slow cannon with unlimited uses which needs to be carried like a marble sculpture in DST would be a better replacement for his Sea Legs than a quick & fast 2nd Battle Spear.

About his Sanity drain when on land, and also when hugging the coast with a Boat, I'd suggest to give him a 100% bonus for taming Beefalos (Beefalos gain twice as much Health, Hunger, Domestication and Obedience; That could actually replace his Sea Legs completly) & remove his Insanity whenever he's riding (if it hasn't made yet).

Sorry but your idea is... bad.

Remember that character perks are related to character's character and theme. Pirate that loves sea and hates land getting double stats for crearly land creature after domesticiting it? Really? Doesn't fit Woodlegs in any way, shape or form.

It makes more sense for him to get Wolly me and op suggested.

I just want PondLegs :|

Also his hat for some reason can actually find you a tresure while you are in a cave, but it might be unreachable due to the walls (i had one spawned behind the wall in womant's room. The message about discavering a treasure has show inside a cave tho :-: )

Give him 300% movement speed on land (he runs extra fast due to him hating land), double damage against anything with legs (he hates other living beings who actually have legs).

He should have 240 points of insulation at all times due to his manly beard. He can't get a wetness meter on land because pirates are too manly for that crap.

Everytime he attacks something, there should be a chance that the thing gets stun locked due to his handsome smile (and his falling out teeth).

Finally, every enemy runs away from Woodlegs (even bosses), just due to the fact of how overpowered the current Woodlegs is.

I mean, c'mon, that's a face of a end-game boss right there.

...

pls buff woodlegs. i need him. i need to play as him

Woodlegs is literally a Sea based character whose love of the seas makes him sick of land.

his constant sanity drop on land is like his main characteristic as a pirate simialr to Webber being a monster and thus being hated by everything good.

Webber got Shamlet Mask to make him compatible with Hamlet world because he is an ROG exclusive character

(Unlocked thru ROG only)

so Woodlegs will obviously need to get something similar to make him compatible with both worlds.

this should have been done even before Hamlet when World Jumping was introduced.

a craftable land ship might work.

one that runs on wheels, require gears and possibly some sort of fuel to make it run.

or make Wolly sit on top of Woodlegs head while he wears his pirate hat and removes the sanity drain he gets from being on land.

but Wolly will fly away once player takes off the hat so its similar to Shamlet where you need to wear the pirate hat in order to avoid sanity loss.

also Wolly will come with a tiny winter cap when winter comes and also will comment on different things from different worlds.

I see that most of yall would want Wally to be related to sanity… well i like her doing dmg better!

So maybe it could function like I said (fighting and being useless in certain seasons) but when Woodlegs wears lucky hat Wolly would starts commenting: "Yer th'best captain in th'world!'' "Ay, ay captain!" which would explain why Woodlegs' sanity would stop going down. But only stop going down from being on land, night and being near monster would still drain it.

Also since Wolly is a bird maybe it'd get scared when underground (caves, ruins, cave clefts, pig ruins)

Yes, Sanity will still go down as Wolly will only remove the -4.8 per minutes sanity drain that Woodlegs gets on land, that means he will become like a normal character and will still face sanity drops during night, near monsters etc.

And the fighting part can really work out as Wolly can take the aggro of a creature away from Woodlegs but he will do minuscule damage (around 4 to 5 points)

This still will only work if Wolly is like a Wearable that you can put on your head and take to caves as well as interiors as he will comment on your actions like Lucy does, of course you will need to feed him inorder to keep him alive like a normal bird.
