No Steel recipe?

Recipies could be unlocked when you reach certain points on the research tree instead of when all base materials are discovered.

Perhaps research should require certain elements to unlock the research. Like if plastic manufacturing required a sample of the base ingredients (oil or petroleum) to be analysed at the research stations. It would clue new players into what they need to have to benefit from doing the research, and having to present the base materials would naturally ensure that the new recipes would be available.

I agree with you to some degree. But the flaw of this view is that for one it is only a surprise once, and in some rare cases you are simply missing out one ingredient, because you lost track of it (in my case it was refined gold for super coolant). And you keep searching for hours in space expecting another rare ingredient, while all you needed to do was refine one more metal.

I think the recipes should at least be displayed, maybe with unknown (???) ingredients for those that you have not discovered yet. That way you know at least that you are on the right track.

This question keeps popping up and I think it's about time that it should be address by Klei.

Recipe's really should be available once they are researched, not when the ingredients are available, it would be a lot friendlier to newer players.
