Nettles and food - help

Recommended Posts

Hello people.

I have been looking but i dont find about it. I don't understand the nettle vine working at all. I have spotter a few near the village but they never seem to grow enough to pick them up. I waited for the humid season and yet, nothing. Is there anything I am missing?

Also, I starve unless I'm lucky enough to get to the 3rd season, but because I dont have a gas mask, I can't make much or something kills me. Any advice on how to get a reliable food source? Thanks

Thanks

who are you playing?  there are lots of ways to get food.

Spoiler

craft a crock pot after building a science machine to make better food.  sell relics and jewels in town, use the oincs to buy food in the deli.  Some people like to make farms in their base to grow their own food.

You shouldn't be starving -- this game is full of ways to kill you, but you shouldn't be starving. ;)

well I pick up all the berry brushs from the pig farms and replant next to my base, since monster meat is plentiful in hamlet you can cook lots of meatballs! if you run out of food there is no problem buying from the pig shops in a emergence. There are easy ways to farm oincs!

For the 3rd season, tuber trees became edible, and restore 5 sanity cooked, so you have a easy food/sanity source.

Find regular/evil flowers, kill butterfiles /catch & replant near your base. There will be plenty of butterfly wings in no time. (Only works in daytime so its useless during the aporkalypse)

Smash some unnecesary pillars and pick up moleworms if they fall. Then just release them near your base, let them make a hole and once there is dusk drop a rock and wait till a moleworm tries to get it. When it gets close and will dig itself out of the ground ,you hit it. You got a morsel every day at dusk/night for every moleworm killed.

Get farms/berry bushes.

Buy food from the store.

(3rd. Season only)  Blooming tubers. The tuber tree will drop 3 of them once you hack it with the machete. Cooked one regains 5 sanity & some health after you eat it. There is plenty of them so you can basically feed on them through the entire season

You can't put them in the crockpot, but blooming tubers in lush season heal 10hp raw and give a good hunk of hunger when cooked. So even if you could crockpot them, they're really just better as-is.

Nettles are hard because once they mature, they only last 2 minutes outside of rain before they dry up and reset to the start of their growth cycle. You have to be actively looking to catch them while still ripe. Takes about 3 days of wet growth time to mature. I highly recommend using a shovel to plant them all in one spot. (at the same time so their growth is synced up) But they have to be on jungle turf, which you cannot move with a pitchfork.

It gets a lottt easier if you make a sprinkler to keep them wet, but that requires ablue gem, and a red gem for a smelter to make the alloy.

Currently nettle vine mechanic is quite broken. You need a sprinkler and a lake biome near jungle biome for stable supply of nettles.

You could buy food from piggies store. There're many ways of making oincs. If you don't have both nettles and a gas mask, you may rely on tea tree seed pods for anti-histamine effect. Cook them and eat.
